Punt and Kickoff Returners 2009 (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know whether Jocoby Jones is back on KOR/PR for good since he missed a couple of games and the fill in was Andre Davis.
Huh?Jacoby hasn't missed any time. Davis is the kr and Jacoby took the job while Davis was out. When Davis came back he took his kr duties back.
One of the owners in my league tried to trade him to me at work today and another owner told me that he did have return stats in the game but it was for 22yrds so obviously a muffed kick or something. I wouldn't do the trade without doing the homework but figured you guys would know. thanks for the help.

Jacoby DOES handle the punt returns, but you don't generally get many points from those. Kick returns are where you get the bulk of your return points.

Who backs up amendola at kor if he is out after bye
If he isn't ready to go because of the concussion he suffered v. Detroit, Quincy Butler probably handles Punt Returns.Kickoff Returns seems less clear to me; Donnie Avery, Kenneth Darby or Samkon Gado are the prime candidates.

According to this websites returner guys article he is expected to return. But my question is just because he is back does he go right back to returning or does Stroughter continue to return. I am hoping I can find out because Cribbs being off this week I need a good returner to replace him for bye. If I find anything out I will post it and please do the same.
Stroughter has an emerging role in the offense; the last few weeks he has become one of Josh Johnson's favorite targets.Clifton made the pro bowl off a 9 game rookie year (2 return TDs, 2nd in PR avg and 5th in KR avg). His role in the offense? 11 carries in 15 career games, including 3 this year. He also has 6 receptions (2 in 2009).

Based on the increased role Sammie has carved out in the offense, and Smith's miniscule contribution when the Bucs have the ball, I would be quite suprised if the Pro Bowler isn't taking all the kicks v. GB.

Then again, just back through this thread, and you'll see I get it totally wrong sometimes.

:lmao:

So is Silva now the returner for Indy?
I live in Indy and as far as I know the returner is still Rushing and Simpson
Anyone know why Jaimie Silva returned all 6 punts last weekend v. the 49ers?
I remember reading somewhere not sure if it was a paper or what but he returned as a precautionary move to give rushing a. Break or something like that. I will try to find it and post it here in a bit.

Ok if u look at the returner guys article from this website its says they didn't use rushing because it was a better idea not to. But it doesn't say show will continue to be the returner. If I see any info this week I will report it.

The decision not to use T.J. Rushing to return punts against the 49ers was roster-related. Rushing was not injured but was a pregame inactive. Safety Jamie Silva took over as the Colts’ primary punt returner. Silva returned punts for the first time this season and for the first time in his two-year NFL career. He had six punt returns for a 5.3 yard average. The second-year defensive back also had five special teams tackles on the kickoff and punt coverage units. “T.J. was not injured. At that time looking at our roster situation, it was the best move we thought we could make. It was the most constructive solution. Jamie has been returning kicks for us [in practice]. He did some in preseason as well. He’s very capable,” Caldwell said. “[silva was] solid [on the coverage units]. The guy makes a lot of plays. He is all over the field. He’s a force to be reckoned with every time that ball is snapped on any of our kicking teams. He gives us great effort as well.”
Sitting out Thursday’s practice were cornerback Kelvin Hayden (knee), wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez (knee), wide receiver Reggie Wayne (rest), defensive end Robert Mathis (rest), safety Bob Sanders (elbow), safety Jamie Silva (hip), and placekicker Adam Vinatieri (knee).LINK 2

Green to split returns

Posted: 13 hrs 55 mins ago. | Source (fanball.com) (RB - gb)

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Ahman Green will split his kickoff return duties this week.

Our View: Green's already very limited fantasy value now takes another hit. He managed just 20 yards on 7 returns last week in his returnman debut, and the 32-year-old will now split opportunities with Brandon Jackson and Tramon Williams. Steer clear of Green in all fantasy formats. Source (fantasysp.com)

Jaguars KR??

Does anyone know if Witherspoon will be playing this week or if Mike Thomas will keep the kick return duty??

Thanks

Witherspoon (hamstring) practiced fully all week, the Jaguars' official site reports.

Recommendation: He's listed as probable for Week 9 and looks ready to help the Jags' return game out Sunday against the Chiefs.

Have any Chiefs homers heard if Jamaal Charles will be taken off of kickoffs with his expanded role? I would assume so unless Haley wants to a RBBC.

Haley's power tripping this year has made it difficult to predict what will happen week to week, but I suspect Dantrell Savage will handle KRs. I am assuming Kolby Smith gets activated off the PUP to the 53 man roster and gets on the plane today.

Pearman To Return Kicks; Davis Released

By Jonathan Hutton November 6, 2009

After a week of sharing the kick and punt return duties with wide receiver Chris Davis, running back Alvin Pearman has been given the green light for Sunday's game in San Francisco.

The Titans released Davis on Friday afternoon, just four days after re-signing the wideout. Offensive lineman Fernando Velasco was brought up from the practice squad to add depth to a group that has suffered injuries in recent days. Offensive tackle David Stewart went down with a hamstring injury on Thursday and lineman Mike Otto has not practiced this week because of a knee problem.

The Titans needed the extra depth on the line and decided to make room for Velasco by letting Davis go. That has left Pearman with an open door for the return duties this Sunday.

''I'm preparing as though I am the returner,'' Pearman said. ''When they do call on me I'll do a good job.''

Pearman was signed last week as the Titans prepared to take on Jacksonville, however was left inactive for the game. Safety Kevin Kaesviharn handled punt returns for the game but Pearman has taken many of the special team reps in preparation for the 49ers.

''I'm just thankful for another opportunity,'' Pearman said. ''I'll contribute and do a good job for this team.''

Bucs CB Talib limited in practice; returner Smith full go

TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib's absence from the early part of practice Wednesday was injury related.

Talib was limited in practice because of an ankle injury, Coach Raheem Morris said.

Also limited was left guard Jeremy Zuttah, by a shoulder injury.

Neither player's status for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers is certain, but the injuries were not categorized as serious.

Pro Bowl kick returner Clifton Smith does expect to play Sunday after missing the Oct. 25 game against the New England Patriots in London. Smith said Wednesday he owns a daily reminder of the vicious hit he suffered Oct. 18 that produced a concussion.

Smith experienced a concussion when Panthers safety Dante Wesley inflicted a violent blow while Smith was attempting to field a punt. The NFL suspended Wesley one game and Smith missed the following game against New England in London.

"I feel perfectly fine – I'm back to normal,'' said Smith, who is expected to play Sunday at home against Green Bay. "Nothing has been bothering me at all. I think it was the right decision to hold me out. I still had some headaches going on. I watch the video of the play all the time. There was a big picture in the paper the next day of me lying on the ground. I posted that up on my bedroom wall so I never forget it.''

Smith is averaging 8.8 yards per punt return and he has returned 17 kickoffs for a 27.9 average. He is hoping to spark the winless Bucs past the heavily favored Packers and prove he is fully recovered from a jarring collision with Wesley that prompted both sidelines to empty out on the field.

"Everybody blacks out once in a while playing this game,'' said Smith. "You feel just like Byron Leftwich said, you leave the Earth for a minute. It's definitely an experience that you never forget and you hope it never happens again. You've got to move forward from there and continue to play this game.''

So is Witherspoon retaking kick return duties? Also, anyone know if Jonathan Holland is the man now in OAK at KR?

What's the situation in Indy with Chad Simpson?

Is he the main KR or does he split with Rushing? Simpson should get a few carries in the run game with Brown out.

Is anyone starting Clifton Smith TB . Do you think he will return enough to use.
I have to start him to fill in for Sjax's bye since all my other backups are on bye or were hurt earlier in the season and got replaced by people also on week 9 bye, lol. Assuming he does take all returns, he should have a decent day since I'm assuming Green Bay will score quite a bit on the Bucs.

JAC Brian Witherspoon DB Inactive

Worhtless; rostering him this year is like walking with a 40 pound weight tethered to your ankle.

I'm in a league that gives points for return yardage. They score the same per yard as a running back running the ball or receiver catching the ball. I know, stupid rule, but I have to live with it. He didn't return kicks at all last week vs. the Steelers, but he is listed on their web site as the #1 kickoff and punt returner. Anyone from Denver able to shed any light? If not, I need to add Clifton Smith.

I hate to do this, but your league scores return yards the same as rushing yards and Clifton Smith is on the waiver wire? Considering how bad the TB defense is, he'll probably finish with around 1500 yards in returns. Pick him up regardless!

I did add him already, but am now looking to see if Royal is a start this week. If he returns kicks, I'll start him, but he's on my bench if he is only starting at WR and PR. Thanks for the help though!

Does anyone have any info on Johnny Knox from Chicago. I wasn't able to see the game Sunday but he only got 2 of the kick returns against Arizona and there were 7 opportunities. Is he still the deep return man for Chicago?

Ahmad Green (seriously) returning kickoffs. For the first time in his career.Of course.Man this is a weird year.
I believe he was a pretty good kick returner for the Seahawks before he was traded to Green Bay for Vinson, of course that was 10 years ago!

Not something I heard recently, but I seem to remember back when the Bears announced that Knox would be the primary KR that they said Danieal Manning would still get an occasional KR. I assume it is due to his success last year returning kicks - he led the league in average yards per KR, IIRC. Manning has returned a few kicks in other games this year, and I would guess that the team let Manning return a few against Arizona to see if he could spark something.I would expect Knox to still be the primary KR, with Manning taking a return occasionally.

I watched part of the game, Royal was in, but they kicked away from him and pinned him deep so he couldn't return them. He is healthy and able, I wouldn't dump him if I were you.

Good call, I think I heard on the radio/t.v. it was his first pro KR and didn't bother checking the stats. He was decent in his 1st 2 years with the Seahawks, but his average was just that, average. Still, pretty odd seeing a 32 y.o. who nobody expected to play this year running them back. Of course, one reason for his signing was so he could become the Pack's all-time leading rusher, which he accomplished last weekend.Loose ends...

Danny Amendola has been cleared to resume playing after suffering a concussion in Week 8
Quintin Demps update - According to PhiladelphiaEagles.com, HC Andy Reid said a trio that includes second-year man Quintin Demps and rookies Jeremy Maclin and Macho Harris will work at kick returner. Demps right now has a sore ankle, the team site reported.
Alvin Pearman averaged 23.3 yards on four kickoffs returns and 10 yards on one punt return in his first action as a Titan, which drew praise from the HC: "I thought he made good decisions," Fisher said. "We need to get him some help. We need to do a better job of executing our blocks."
Clifton Smith garnered ST Player of the Week in his first game back thanks largely to his 83 yarder that setup a TD in the Bucs first win of the season
Brandon Tate has looked good on KRs for the Pats, but missed the 2nd half last week after injuring his knee; he skipped practice today
Brian Witherspoon practiced today and is not listed on the injury report; after last week - when he practiced Friday and then was inactive game day - I don't know what to think except he must be the odd man out right now

When is Jordy Nelson expected back, and is he expected to regain the kr job? Will he be the #3 wr when he returns?

Not much is known at this point:
Receiver/kick returner Jordy Nelson returned to practice for the first time since spraining a knee Oct. 18 against Detroit. “I thought he looked good out there (Wednesday),” McCarthy said. “He came on strong last week during his workouts. How much he plays or if he plays, we’re going to really let the week sort that out.”
Tramon Williams is the best healthy returner, but since he plays a lot of nickel packages they prefer to only use him on punt returns. That is why Green returning kickoffs for the first time in 10 years. Since Jordy averages 29.3 v. 20.5 from all other returners, it would seem logical he'll get his ST job back ASAP. The local papers and sports talk radio have been killing 1st year ST coach Shawn Slocum, not only for the lack of production, but inept coverage as well.I have no idea how WR3 will play out between JJ and Nelson, but Jones has come up with some sporadic big plays over the last 3 weeks.

Will Felix Jones be returning kickoffs this weekend?
Yes it should be Felix. Rossum is still out.
Felix Jones-RB- Cowboys Nov. 12 - 4:37 pm et The Cowboys are "strongly considering" replacing Felix Jones on kickoff returns with rookie WR Kevin Ogletree.Ogletree is splitting time with Jones in practice, though no change has been announced. With 4.36 speed, Ogletree has the speed to be a quality returner. A change would render Jones unstartable in return-yardage leagues. :football:

Manning took the opening kickoff Thursday.

Manning took the first two kickoffs. Then Knox got the third which he muffed and picked up and ran for 12 yards. Looks like I can't start him anymore until something changes.
