QB Bo Nix, DEN (1 Viewer)

What's next is a date with the NFL #1 scoring defense (Chargers) while playing with a banged-up O-line (3rd string RT, backup C, gimpy LT), followed by a TNF game on the road in the Superdome.

But the game is slowing down considerably for NIx, he's steadily internalizing the playbook, and the schedule lightens up, so things are looking bright for a nice second half of the season.

Jordan Lopez
So not only was Bo Nix responsible for nearly 90% of the team's total offensive yards

He was also the leading rusher for Denver

And the fastest ball carrier for Denver, clocking in at nearly 19mph

He might land the plane in NO at this rate. He's doing everything

Superflex league where quarterbacks are rare and Bo Nix got dropped last week. Added him to my squad for a hopeful QB upgrade as the season progresses. I haven’t watched him much due to not owning any broncos across my leagues this year. But his stats seem to keep getting better and better as he settles in.

  • The 262.2 yards per game the Saints are allowing through the air makes them the NFL’s 29th-ranked pass defense.

Gosh I hate Thursday action, but I continue to wonder if this could wind up as a big game for Nix as I continue to watch a little tape and do a little research after acquiring him.

The QB School
it's weird to say this about a 4-3 team w/ a rookie QB, but should the Broncos be worried about Nix?
his running and short game accuracy remain excellent. but his footwork (i.e., wasted lower half movement and narrow base), downfield accuracy, and his lack of feel in the pocket (i.e. bailing early and often looking unsettled) are at a minimum—concerning.

in addition, imo, those concerns can be improved and quickly. tbh, the feel in the pocket is the most concerning. you don't see a lot, in any, NFL QBs bail out of good pockets very often. I'm not saying it's easy; it is not. however, bailing early is some of the worst film you can have. lmk if you think i'm way off.

So I'm debating picking up Bo Nix and starting him over Kirk Cousins. Really nice matchup this week, but if the Broncos score 15 points that's probably enough to win this game, and the DST could do that all by themselves. So how much are they going to even attempt to throw?

It is a home game, so that might give them incentive to run up the score to give the fans a nice show, but I could also see Nix sitting out the whole fourth quarter.

And when someone might say the ranks are "all over the map", I don't think I have ever seen such a divergence of opinion about a player. Here is where each FBG person has him ranked for this week:

1 - Maurile Tremblay
3 - Jason Wood
5 - Justin Freeman
7 - Bob Harris
14 - Sigmund Bloom
17 - Jeff Bell
17 - Dave Kluge
19 - Joey Wright

CBSsports has Nix ranked 4th, only behind Allen, Lamar, and Burrow. Ahead of Love (@Jax), Hurts (@Cin). Caleb (@Was) has a juicy matchup.

They have Cousins (@TB) 17th, even though TB is 31st OVP compared to CAR 29th. I'd start Cousins over Nix.

fantasypros has Nix ranked 13th and Cousins 12th with only a .1 predicted projected fant points if that matters

The Panthers are giving up over 34 points a game
Their last four games they've given up 34,36,38 and 40
The Broncos will score 30 without much effort,40 if they want to.
Bo Nix is an excellent play this week.
His upside this week, for me,is higher than any top 5 qb's you want to name.

Thinking of starting him over Caleb this week. My only concern is that the Broncos just run all over them and don't throw it much.

I get the matchup, but we are talking about Bo Nix here. I know it’s one play but they keep showing it on reels on social media. It’s a pass to 2 wide open WRs. The pass goes above one and short of the other one. It’s hilarious. My thought is they run the ball with Javonte on a weak D. The Panthers are missing their QB and top 2 wideouts. I would have a difficult time starting Bo Nix.

Zac Stevens
If Bo Nix has 60+ rushing yards today against the Panthers, he will become just the sixth rookie QB to have three-straight 60+ rushing yard games.

He's join good company too:

Lamar Jackson
Josh Allen
Bobby Douglas
Jalen Hurts
Vince Young

With a win today, Bo Nix will set the Broncos' record for most wins by a rookie QB.

He will surpass John Elway and Drew Lock.

Anyone starting this guy today? I want to start him over Goff and Tua but am paralyzed.
Never start Bo unless it’s superflex. Those options are better
Damn. I thought I was overreacting having him in my starting lineups all week. Guess I wasn’t.
My bad! Wasn’t familiar with his game. I don’t see many receivers on The team being huge td guys except Sutton so I guess the panthers really are lifeless lol.

That said nix is in low end qb1 territory streaming now for me

Bo Nix completed 28-of-37 passes for 284 yards with three touchdowns in the Broncos’ 28-14, Week 8 win over the Panthers while adding four carries for five yards with a touchdown.

This was a strong game from Nix, and it could have been even better if his wide receivers gave him a little more help. A pair of long passes went off the fingers of Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Troy Franklin, and while they weren’t perfect throws, they were plays that should have been made by NFL receivers. Even still, the rookie quarterback was able to connect on three scores, and he added a one-yard plunge to make it a sensational fantasy afternoon. Nix really struggled early on, but has gotten better — significantly — each week. He’ll take on a very beatable Ravens’ secondary in Week 9.

The anti-Anthony Richardson, he's been really accurate on short balls but throws on the move/deeper throws have been his issue. However those drops today were semi-catchable balls.

Firing him up again for the third week in a row. (Granted this is superflex league)

He’s been paying dividends. And after seeing what Winston did last week with this defense, this seems like another good spot start.

I’ll ask again lol: who you guys starting this dude over this week? My only options in two leagues are Darnold or Kyler.

Just finished Bo Nix film.

The Broncos have a special QB who is getting better each week and he can win with his legs and his pinpoint accuracy.

Really impressive
I didn’t get a chance to watch the game, but just watched his highlight video on the yahoo app of all his best plays.

This kid can throw some darts into some tight windows. His footwork is really nice, even when moving out of the pocket.

You are definitely correct on the bold re: the CAR game, however, for most of the year Nix has been rightfully criticized for his footwork.

This has been both good and bad, leading both to long-yardage scrambles and relatively few sacks, but also not getting fully through his progressions and/or inaccurate off-balance throws.

Last Sunday it appeared Nix was making a conscious effort to remain in the pocket longer, which did lead to 2 sacks and only 4 rush yds, but also obviously much, much better ball placement on intermediate/long throws.

Hopefully he's figured out the proper balance because as you say he can throw some serious darts when in rhythm.

#broncos rookie QB Bo Nix has 33 plays of 20+ yards this season. The only player with more ... Lamar Jackson.

Spags on Bo Nix:

I went back and watched the first game he played in and was – I thought Sean had him doing things that sometimes you say, ‘Do you have a rookie do it in the first game that he plays?’ But yet, there he is doing it. I just think he’s gotten better every week. He looks more comfortable. You guys see it. It’s another athletic quarterback and I think those guys are always headaches because there’s certain things you can and can’t do because you’re afraid that he’s going to make you look bad with his feet and he can do that. I think he’s getting – listen, the guy can throw the football, there’s no doubt about that. They have themselves a good one.”

Really happy with his progress. He has a great coaching staff - showed a lot of improvement. Next year they actually have cap room and draft picks to add some talent. He could be a dark horse top 10 very soon.

Even though he is ranked 2nd in 20+ yard plays, he hasn't been super accurate to date on deep throws. Combination of slightly off on timing and some quasi-drops.

Once the deep throws start clicking, his stats could take a significant leap forward. Should be just a matter of time/reps.
