QB Brett Hundley, IND (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Packers rookie QB Brett Hundley completed 16-of-23 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns in Thursday night's preseason finale.

He added 12 yards on four scrambles. Hundley's pocket composure has been better than commonly advertised in the exhibition season. He'll wrap up the preseason with a 7:1 TD-to-INT ratio and 129.6 passer rating. Always a good athlete with a hose for an arm, Hundley is looking like a promising prospect for the Packers. Hundley will still be third on the depth chart to begin the season, behind Aaron Rodgers and top backup Scott Tolzien.

Packers second-year QB Brett Hundley has "inspired total confidence in his coaches" after a solid OTA/minicamp season.
This showed up especially when the Packers let incumbent backup Scott Tolzien leave for Indianapolis without a fight. Per beat writer Ryan Wood, Hundley's competitiveness "has blown away teammates and coaches." On the field, he has shown a "live, powerful arm" and "his grasp of the offense is clear." Also a dual threat, Hundley could flirt with QB1 value in the Packers' talented offense if something happened to Aaron Rodgers.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports the Packers "came close" to trading Brett Hundley on Day 2 of the draft.
With Aaron Rodgers still at the top of his game, Hundley won't be seeing the field anytime soon in Green Bay. It looks like Hundley is staying put for now but Demovsky still expects the Packers to move him before he enters his contract year in 2018. Hundley has logged just 27 snaps since arriving as a fifth-round pick in 2015.

It'd be interesting if a team like Miami, Tennessee, Cincinnati (teams that are bubble playoff teams) or a team like Oakland lost their QBs early this season similar to what happened to MIN, if they'd come shopping for a guy like Hundley. I'd think that JimmyG would garner more attention, but his price is much more steep I'd imagine (1st or 2nd round draft pick). I would think a team could get Hundley for a 3rd, maybe even a 4th round pick. I won't pretend to know what his trade value is. I'd find it hard to believe GB would invest >2 years into the guy and give him away for a round earlier than he was drafted; time invested has value. I would be disappointed if they got less than a 3rd.

With next year's perceived solid draft class I'm not so certain a team may come looking at Hundley. Maybe after the draft or after day 1. Unless there's a significant injury to a team looking at a playoff push, I would be surprised to see Hundley traded. I'm not sure I'd want that either... if GB traded him and Rodgers were to get hurt, they'd be awful. Likely awful even with Hundley I guess..

I'm really pulling for Hundley to make his mark. I'm the owner of a singular (1 of 1) autographed rookie card with the plate thingy. Man, if he ever went on to a HOF career I might be able to retire.

Well, here's his chance.  Pretty rough draw to go in cold against a pretty good Vikings defense.  He looked rough, we'll have to see how he settles in with the additional reps with the first team.

Let’s see in one dynasty league I own Elliot, David Johnson, Eli, Parker and Jordy Nelson. Yeah it wasn’t a great week. Was thinking of trading Jordy and building for next year, too late now.

I grabbed in both my dynasty leagues.  I think the guy we saw last week won't really resemble the guy we see on Sunday.  Call it the Case Keenum effect, if you will.

Coming in cold against a good defense without much practice is totally, totally different from a full week of reps with the 1s and a game plan tailored to what you do well.  I think Hundley has talent.  I think the way the Packers developed him is EXACTLY how QBs should be developed, but the rookie wage scale and the pressure on teams to play their highly drafted rookies forces a lot of sink or swim immersion for guys.  I expect Hundley is a lot better than the consensus thinks right now.

The way NO def is playing in the last month does anyone think there is any way Hundley doesn’t get throttled by them?  His o line stinks.   He’s like a deer in headlights RT now.  NO’s Pass rush and blitzing is ferocious.   I think Hundley and the packers are in trouble this week.

I'm with you...

This is where I'm at but his biggest critique has been when he's under pressure he panics and that affects his accuracy which is already suspect down range.

That hasn't really changed IMO. He always seems to look scared/tentative.

However, yes I agree with you- he will look better next week. I think after the Tolzein/Flynn experiment GB has learned not to have a crappy QB behind Rodgers. If they did not have faith in Hundley there were many veterans on the open market signed for cheap over the offseason who could do just fine managing the game. They decided not to go with them. In cases like this I think In Ted We Trust... they see him way more than I ever have so I have to trust the coaching staff

Yes. I was just thinking this the other day. GB looked to trade him day 2 of the NFL draft last year, and they had no biters. I think the silver lining on Rodgers' injury was that GB would be able to show case him a little bit more and be able to get something for him after this year. He hasn't been terrible but he hasn't done enough to make any team (IMO) think "I need to get that guy" or "Hundley is better than who we have starting." He might be worth it to a team who might unfortunately lose their starting QB early after the draft to some fluke injury, but at the end of the day I don't think his value would be anything more than a 6th or 7th round pick. Maybe a 5th...

He hasn't been terrible
You must have a very interesting definition of "terrible".

- his passer rating of 58.3 is 36th out of 37 QBs who have started at least 2 game this year
- completion % is 32nd out of 37
- 5.04 Yards/Attempt is 36th out of 37
- 2.75 Adjusted Net Yards/Attempt is 37th out of 37
- touchdown % of 1.0 is 37th out of 37
- interception % of 4.12 is 36th out of 37

I suppose you can give him some credit for his 2 rushing touchdowns and his 8.6 YPC, but that's not enough to keep him out of the Terrible category, IMO.

Yeah, he is.
agreed.  The dude has had all the practice as the #2 for 2 years?  Then has 2 weeks to get ready as the starter.  GB knows what they have, thus the conservative game plan.  If I'm the coach I call the same plays as I do for A. Rogers.  Then you know where you are at.  That's why I'm not a coach.  not good a good QB IMO.  over & out.  I'm peeved at this young so called backup, admittedly because I have D. Adams in pretty much everything & an occasional J.Nelson too.  So you know my anger is selfish but it behooves me how GB can get in this situation.  I like the team & respect the organization.  Probably too short a window.  Let's see how things pan out.

sigh

Yeah he looks really bad. The GB coaching staff is also very pedestrian without Rodgers.

Starting him as my QB2 in a 2-QB league. The 245 passing yards vs. Detroit were a plus so hoping he can get that with 20-30 rushing yards and either a TD run or pass. If he gets that I'll be thrilled and will escape this week.

Say a prayer for me please.

Sooo... anybody got any bright ideas on QB lotto tickets? Hundley is the only guy on most WW's in 1. a potentially points driven system, 2. with legs, 3. with a good WR corps. The problem of course is his play. But he had a slight uptick last week, albeit against the Bears.

I've said from the get go that you can't judge Hundley until we get a little more game experience from him. He certainly showed some of the skills that Green Bay likes, including two really key throws late in the game to seal the win.

Now the question remains if we can do it consistently. I have more hope of that now.

Kizer, but not this week. Peterman now as well.

Zero pocket presence, no internal clock, 10-15 yard drop backs then throws off his back foot, etc. etc. etc.

Clearly not ready for prime time, he's been there 3 years "studying" under one of the games greats and?

I thought he would play better than today, although against a tough D he displayed the same poor QB tendencies.

"I don't see any of that," McCarthy said on Monday, via the team's official website. "Everyone knows what each man puts into this, what these guys do professionally.

"He's here working out. Everyone respects him. I don't see any issues with that."

:lmao:  That's awful. He was as bad as Peterman. McCarthy embarrassing the Packers organization with that statement.
McCarthy was referring to the locker room and as to whether the other players were losing faith in Hundley. Not sure how that statement is embarrassing to the Packers organization. McCarthy has always had a pretty good grasp on the feel ofthe lcoker room
