QB Jalen Hurts, PHI (2 Viewers)

Hurts played great. His postgame comments were thoughtful and demonstrated (again) he is a high quality person and a great leader. Same guy was thrilled for Tua and his team when he got benched in the National title game.

Gets knocked down, learns from it, comes back stronger. Terrific athlete and an even better human.
It's scary that he's going to get better than this, but it's almost certain that he will.

Everyone on the Planet was expecting the Eagles to win.
If you cant win the SB with that loaded team ( #1 Oline, Top #2-3 WR combo, Top #3-5 TE, #1 Defense, great stable of RBs)
Let's be real follks ... It's time to look for a new QB ... because the rest of the team aint getting any better that what it already !!!

I think he is as he keeps posting this over and over in multiple threads

So….$400M contract?
He’s definitely getting paid after this season, who expected this performance….I definitely didn’t.
No one expected this. All we had hoped for was to see some improvement in his passing game. We knew he was a dangerous runner but we needed to see him improve as a passer and see if he could win in the playoffs.

Going toe-to-toe with Mahomes in the Super Bowl and putting up top-10 passing numbers answered those questions. And he's only 24.

So….$400M contract?
No, won't be that high because Hurts would likely expect something close to 70% of the total contract fully guaranteed.

My guess is the Eagles will be wise enough to get him extended early, ahead of Burrow and Herbert. The structure of that contract will likely be that he won't have a big cap hit in 2024, the first year of the extension, and maybe not that bad in 2025 so they should be looking at 2-3 more years before he starts breaking into the $40M+ against the cap territory.

Any kind of help from the defense and he probably wins it.

I agree it was probably there best shot since the QB isn't on a huge contract, but I am not sure if you seriously think Hurts was the problem in that game.

I originally had something about no help from the defense but took that out. Bottom line is we saw massive growth from Hurts at an unexpected level. And I conservatively went with "top-10" because I didn't feel like looking up actual numbers - but I'm confident the stats will back up a top-10 passer statement, and maybe top 5.

Wasn't he the top rated passer on deep throws? Another question we had going into the season, could he improve his accuracy on the down field throws. Answer is yes, yes he could.

This may be the worst take I've seen on this board and that's saying something.
Eagles 2022 season
With Hurts 16-2
Without Hurts 0-2

Yeah, definitely need to be moving on. Any decent QB should be undefeated perennially. One or two losses per decade is acceptable. Eagles need to see if Brett Favre is interested in making a comeback.

Randall Cunningham trajectory. No way I sign him past age 30. He's going to stop running at age.
Randall Cunningham was never a "first in the building/film guy" might not be 10% on that side of what Hurts is.
I’m not sure how people saw him drop in some of those passes and think he’s not getting better as a passer.

Which five QBs would you take over him as a franchise QB. I think Mahomes, Allen and Burrow are the only easy answers*. I could see arguments for Hebert, but after that I think it has to be Hurts.

* it may not really be “easy”.

The one problem I have with Hurts if he were the franchise QB of my team ... is seeing him get hit all the time and NEVER slide. Get the first down, and if you don't have a lot of green in front of you just slide, dude.

If Hurts was even 70% of the QBs you mentioned ... The Eagles wouldnt have lost the SB !!!!!!!!!
The Eagles were hands down the most talented team in the NFL except for one position. I could probably name 10 QBs that would have won the SB with the talent on that team !!!!
But they didn't and now they are in cap hell and they will be losing lot of players and Hurts will be the next Carson Wentz

I know your posts are just :fishing:, but I'm a huge Mahomes fan and Hurts outplayed Mahomes by a bunch last night. Reid just DOMINATED Sirianni in the coaching department and that was by far the difference in the game.

I am down with this. Mahomes in his own tier, but Allen's play style AND penchant for taking chances make me a little hesitant. That dude takes some *major* hits and eventually, he's gonna have a Carson Went moment when that injury finally comes.

So there is no way Burrow or Josh Allen or Justin Herbert could fumble the ball? That was pretty much the only significantly negative play of the game for Hurts. The guy had 375 yards 4 TDs and a 2 point conversion. The Eagles had 9 full drives. They scored on 6 of them. Unreal your team gets a steal on an MVP caliber QB and you are crying about it.

I'm thinking more Cam Newton where the extremely physical style he plays begins to take it's toll.

His age is kind of ideal for Philly though. He'll likely play first year of his extension at age 26 so they can extend him and still get 4 more years out of him before he even hits 30.

Even a slightly better DC coaching performance by Gannon and the Hurts led Eagles destroy the MVP Mahomes led Chiefs.

I've worried for a while that Josh Allen will follow a Cam Newton career path. He's the only guy I can think of that was basically a power running QB and lowered his shoulders into LBs consistently. Plus they have some of the same drawbacks as a passer when their legs go away.

70 + yards was rushing and 3 of tds were rushing ... the rushing TDs were the result of a dominant line and any QB in the league could have run for 1, 2 and 4 Yd TDs in fact any of the RBs on the team could of done same. Everytime they needed 1 or 2 yds the push that the line gave was amazing. As far as passing ... Goedert alone made 3 unbelievable contested catches that wouldnt have been caught by almost any other TE in the league. A couple of deep balls that were terribly placed and into into double coverages we're caught by the unbelievable group od WRs on this team ... most teams would've ended up with incompletes and/or Ints on the same throws with much less compentent WRs.

Im sorry but his accuracy is not good especially on deep balls, he doesnt have a particularly strong arm, he doesnt have a quick sharp release. His running is ok ... doesnt have great vision or speed but he is strong and doesnt take unessary hits for the most part

He's playing with confidence right now because his team is loaded and they were ridiculously healthy this year. The have a cap situation coming up and they are going to lose quite a few players on the DLine and Olines. They will still have one of the top 3 WR/TE units in the NFL but I doubt that any team can be this healthy 2 years in a row.

Put Hurts on an avergae team and he will be an average QB, a bad and he will be a bad QB

I always say ... if a QB is good enough to win a SB he's good enough ... like Foles was. Hurts wasnt good enough to win a SB on easily the most talented team in football this year

49ers fans aren’t “butt hurt”, we’re bummed that our QB got hurt.

I hardly think any of the board’s Niners fans would create an account just to troll you or Eagles fans.

Cmon.

It's good to see you Tony

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the price has "likely gone to $50 million a year or more" for Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman said the team hopes to sign Hurts early in the offseason. With Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson all due extensions, the Eagles want to get out ahead on Hurts, who is in the final year of his contract. Hurts doesn't have a fifth-year option as a second-round pick and is likely to be the first of the QB extensions. Hurts' contract could be structured similar to the deal the Eagles gave Carson Wentz in 2019, with Hurts landing a four-year deal with 80% of it guaranteed.

They outlawed that "flying wedge/v" ish 100 years ago because it worked too well/got players hurt/etc, so not like it hasnt happened before.

Wait, so he's in the last year of his deal making what, a couple million?? How is there any leverage for 50 million a year when he makes nothing this year and could be franchised for 2024?
