QB Jared Goff, DET (1 Viewer)

If Minnesota wins next week, does the Lions week 17 MNF game suddenly become totally meaningless? Trying to determine how to figure out the risk of Goff and other Lions starters next week.
If Minnesota wins, wouldn't they need to also win to keep pace for the division and conference lead?
I don’t think so because they play each other in week 18 and if the Vikings win next week then whoever wins week 18 gets the 1 seed (lions would hold the hth tiebreak)

Your game theory is correct. Your understanding of Dan Campbell & this team is not.

They’re playing at SF.

They’ve had this game circled since early May.

They’ve been thinking about what happened January 28 all year long.

You don’t get how petty these guys are.

EVERYBODY is playing.
I am pretty sure I read, Campbell has shown the team the video of Purdy taking a knee from victory formation in the NFC title game every week all offseason and season. They are coming for kneecaps Monday.

14 TDs in the past 4 weeks, first Lions QB with 3+ in four consecutive games.

Last 7 weeks since the 5-INT Texans game:

771902657571.702318201121.911728.7510.0917382.24

331 yards per game, 20:1 TD-INT ratio, 71.7%, 121.9 passer rating

Anyone else roll with Goff to a title? Goff has been $$$$.
He has been incredible. Should get some MVP votes.
He has been on fire of late, but he shouldn't get a single MVP vote. Can't stress enough how amazing Lamar Jackson has been. Maybe the best season ever. 2nd best passer rating in NFL history, while also having about 900 rush yards. Leads the league in yards per pass attempt, and yards per rush attempt.

I noticed you have not been very high on Goff during the entire season. He has been incredible leader of a team that has dominated this year. What gives?

My buddy lost by two points because Goff went just over 300 yards and got him three bonus points. It’s kind of wild that on a lateral play like that TD Goff gets credited for all the yards on the whole play as passing yards, not just the initial pass.

I think he's a good QB. I don't think he's an elite QB. I think Ben Johnson is an elite playcaller, and the Lions have an elite supporting cast. I won't go so far as to call Goff a game manager, but I think his job is easier than most QBs. I don't hate the guy, I just think he's more of a Matt Ryan (other than 2016) type, than a truly elite guy.

The MVP stuff is crazy to me, given the year Lamar is having.

I've been lower on him in fantasy because he's so boom/bust, because there are weeks where the Lions just run all game. Those have happened less since the defense has fallen off.

Jackson will be MVP. Goff is doing a great job at what he needs to do and doing it at a high level. I think that is all the Lions care about. For where Goff was drafted he has been a highly productive FF and that is all I care about.

Jared Goff finishes the year with
  • 72.0% 2nd in NFL, 4th all time
  • 4529 yards (9 yards short of career high), 2nd in NFL for the second straight year
  • 37 TDs (career high, 2nd highest in franchise history), 4th in NFL 35th most all time
  • 12 INT
The three players ahead of him on the all-time single season comp % record - Drew Brees (2x) and Tua - threw for under 4000 yards 3x and under 2000 3000 2x

Week 18 was the 9th game of the season with a completion percentage of 75.0%, passing Tom Brady (8 in 2007) for the most in a season in NFL history.

Lions end the season with 564 points, 4th best all time and best in the 17 g era.

Lions end the season with 70 touchdowns, tied for 4th best all time and best in the 17 g era.

Jared Goff from clean pockets tonight: 10-of-11, 137 yards

Jared Goff under pressure: 3-of-10, 43 yards, TD, 2 INT

@NextGenStats
Can you run the same number for Jayden Daniels? But that might be a wasted effort because I don’t recall Daniels being pressured more than once or twice.
The defensive line played terrible and once Amik Robertson got hurt, we couldn't cover anyone. That combined with the greatness of Daniels meant game over.

From CBS Sports:

Heading into Saturday, Goff's 0.6 interception rate was the lowest in NFL playoff history -- which evaporated because of his poor performance.

Feels like this is the best thing that could have happened to Sam Darnold.

Neither of them can win when it matters
If Goff can't win when it matters, how did he make it to a Super Bowl and 2 NFC championship games?

Coaching and teams...other things matter. He crumples under the pressure that's why the rams wanted out

And this isn't new. It's something he has to shed that follows him and yesterday hurt that cause. Deeper into the choker hole now

Goff was never as good as his numbers, but he's also not suddenly a liability either. There are 32 starting QBs in the NFL, Goff is somewhere in the 12-15 range.

Yeah seems close. he’s good enough to lead a strong team to a title but he isn’t putting a team on his back

He does? He won an NFC Championship game to take the Rams to the Super Bowl.
