QB Jared Goff, DET (1 Viewer)

Flash forward to this offseason and Goff has apparently made big strides.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche reported on Tuesday's Up To The Minute Live that Rams GM Les Snead told him Goff returned this spring with a better grasp of what's expected of him as an NFL starter.
It has been quiet, hasn't it? McAdoo's offense was pretty moribund last year, like bottom 10 stuff. Still in fishing around for cheap offenses with skill players who might take strides the Rams have to be considered.

Someone will have value there, and they are all cheap flyers whether it's 2nd rd rookie pick on Kupp or a 3/4 on Reynolds or Hodges. Everyone looks at woods and says "meh" but he's held his job and had some production in buffalo, he could certainly be the target leader there. Higbee is discounted since they drafted Hodges.

Speaking after Tuesday's OTA, coach Sean McVay said "whoever we feel like gives us the best chance to win football games" is going to start at quarterback.
"Right now, we feel really good about what they've both [Jared Goff and Sean Mannion] done," McVay continued. "Jared's done a nice job of getting better, but you always want to make sure you're playing the guy that you feel like gives you the best ability to win football games. Right now, Jared is the starter." It was a tepid endorsement from McVay. It's important to remember that McVay has zero ties to Goff; he didn't use the No. 1 pick on him, and Mannion has drawn some strong offseason reviews from coaches. In D.C., McVay was part of the staff that favored fourth-rounder Kirk Cousins over No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III.

I don't think anyone will make the argument that Goff was anything but horrid as a rookie, but the future is reasonably bright. To start- the physical skills are there. He can make all the throws and won't succeed to due a lack of physical prowess. Fisher being fired also will help him over the long term. The line certainly needs work and the surrounding cast is lacking at this point. But- as he was the first overall pick and the team does have Gurley, there is some hope. We have to remember that starting QB is perhaps the most difficult position to play well in all of professional sports. This requires patience.

Depending on the price point- I'd be willing to buy and hold. In dynasty, I think you need to view him as a developmental prospect. I don't see him being a startable option for this year and probably next, but I do think he has long term top 12 talent.

Rams giving Goff every chance to develop and blossom into quality NFL qb.  What a difference a year makes in terms of a supporting cast. Revamped coaching staff and system and new and improved group of receivers gives Goff great chance to validate his number one overall pick status.

I think McVay is still the biggest difference between this and last season. Watkins may have more pure talent but I don't see him as a huge bump over Britt.

Even healthy I think Sammy would have struggled to hit 1,000 yards with the 2016 Rams.

Funny thing is Goff has he 7th highest paid receivers in the league. When they resign Sammy, it will likely be the highest paid WR group in the league.

Well, gosh Mike Martz:

Martz was asked if he believed new Rams head coach Sean McVay can make a difference for Goff.

"What is he, a couple of months older than Jared? They hired a buddy for Jared. The NFL has nothing to do with being the friend or the buddy of the quarterback. You've got to coach them and work them hard with respect. But buddy? And this guy is a quarterback expert? An offensive expert? Wait a minute while I puke. Right, he's going to be able to teach and handle and guide Jared through tough times because of all of his expertise and knowledge? Right. I'm not going to drink that Kool-Aid."
:lmao:

I finally cut ties with Goff and traded him away today. My dynasty team is built for "win now" mode and Andrew Luck's injury is lingering. I have been running with Dalton the past two games and still managing to win each time. I didn't feel confident with Dalton or Goff down the stretch of the season. I moved Goff and Moncrief for Roethelisberger straight up. Ben's probably a one year rental but I needed some security. I'm still a believer of Goff in the future and I'll be interested to see him develop more without the investment on my part.

Seriously, is no one else out there driving this bandwagon? I've been on the road in Europe and haven't seen any of the games. But Goff is in the top 10 in passing yardage, top 5 in yards per attempt, and #1 in the league in net yards per attempt. We have dozens of pages on guys like Kirk Cousins and Sam Bradford; are they really more promising than Goff at this point?

Crickets? Rams are 5-2, Goff is top 10 in all the yardage stats, looking solid eh?
I had to pick him up because of Rodgers and watched a good bit of his game.  Pleasantly surprised at his poise and composure.  Big jump from rookie year when he looked terrible.  Saw his game against SF earlier this year and was even more impressed back then although in my mind, footnoted that it was SF.

He had a bad pick and I get the sense he’s still being ‘managed’ in the offense.  But his tools and pedigree are starting to show through.

I'm not one to avoid admitting I was wrong. All of the sudden kid looks good - maybe it was Fisher?

IDK, but I'm starting him this week :bag:

Book still unwritten though.

Anyone rolling Goff out there this week due to the Watson debacle?

Would appear to be the QB streamer of the week if we believe the experts.

NYG minus J. Jenkins in the secondary.

Weather looks a little iffy though. And I never like a west coast team travelling east for a 1 PM EST game. LAR have had the bye week, but a lot of teams have looked sluggish post bye lately.

Leaning towards rolling him out there over M. Ryan.

Once they realize they have a top 5 WR in Sammy and figure out how to use him I think Goff could take off.

They had the bye week to figure that out and now they face a NYG secondary minus J. Jenkins.

If it aint this week it's never.

Hope you're right cuz Brady is on bye this week. Never thought I'd start Goff in a game but here I am with Michael Jordan out.

Goff on pace for:

294/488 60.2% 8.37 YPA 4060 26/8

Is he a for real QB1?  I know 4060 passing yards doesn’t seem impressive, but 8.37 YPA?

There should be fewer open seats on this wagon. Week 15 in Seattle looks ugly but otherwise you can ride him through the championship.

It looks like the Rams may be getting ready to be the latest team to demolish the idea that "pro" offenses must involve the QB starting under center with long drop backs and post-snap reads. Goff is awesome at pre-snap reads, and now that he's being put in the position to operate in his comfort zone he's showing the skills he has. The TD throw to Watkins was a thing of beauty.

Goff and Wentz both put up 51 points this week, and have their teams headed to the playoffs. Could they wind up being be the Montana vs. Marino, Brady vs. Manning debate of this generation?

After both bye weeks:

Goff (7-2): 172/281 (61.2%), 2385 yards, 16 TD 4 INT, 8.5 YPA, rating 101.5

Wentz (8-1): 176/291 (60.5%), 2252 yards, 23 TD 5 INT, 7.8 YPA, rating 104.1

Looks like there was a reason these guys were drafted 1-2. Jury's still out on which will have the best career but they're both looking pretty good right now.

Although to be fair, Joey Bosa and Ezekiel Elliot were drafted 3-4 and those are looking like pretty good picks. In fact 2016 might wind up being a historically awesome draft.

Drafted #5, Jalen Ramsey is already one of the best CBs in the league. He should be all-pro for years to come.

Coaching makes all the difference in the world.   Can’t tell you how exciting I am to watch Goff grow in the years to come.

Really like Wentz but he’s a full year ahead of Goff due to the coaching disaster Goff was drafted into.

Doesn’t feel like Goff is getting enough credit in the mainstream media yet for how well he’s played, especially compared to Wentz. Hilarious that most were quite prepared to write him off after half a season.

He's performed per the matchups so far this year. Great in plus matchups, not so great in sub par matchups.

Next two weeks will be a huge test: @MN, NO
