QB Jayden Daniels, WAS (1 Viewer)

@NextGenStats
Jayden Daniels finished 21 of 23 for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns in his primetime debut, completing +20.8% of his passes over expected, the highest CPOE by a qualified passer in a game this season.

His two incompletions both came on deep pass attempts.

He keeps this up, its entirely possible Washington starts like 7-2. At Baltimore is really the only likely loss on the schedule the next 6 weeks. I mean look at this schedule:

Week 4=at Arizona (50-50 game)
Week 5=Cleveland (feels like a collapsing team)
Week 6=at Baltimore
Week 7=Carolina
Week 8=Chicago
Week 9=at NY Giants
They're not a good team, and I love them from my guts. But they have too many weaknesses (secondary, insufficient d-line pressure, interior offensive runs getting stuffed all the time, subpar receivers (not McLaurin). I think a good showing for them through that part of their schedule would be 5-4. But Daniels is the real deal.

Other than Baltimore, none of those teams are good, and a few are quite bad. Might be the easiest schedule in the NFL during this stretch.

Agreed.
But in my opinion Washington is not good, and still lapses too often into being bad. I think they'll be erratic as a team this year.

Very high highs and low lows with this team all year, you’re right about that. The talent is just not there on all sides of the ball. Teams should at least respect that Daniels makes good decisions and can keep chains moving and move the ball down the field. So…teams should just continue to run the ball at these guys and limit Daniels’ possessions. IDK- they look to be competitive in each game considering that Washington is scoring on almost every drive. It’s impressive

I think he won't be easy to buy, but I would try and target Terry in your leagues. They are going to be a VERY good duo for years to come. The lack of connection was based on scheme the first few weeks, I think they were just trying to protect Jayden. It was great seeing several downfield shots last night. I also thought the line did a decent job giving him time. They could be better but were NOT a train wreck

This guy was so obvious to draft at cost but I didn’t get him in any league. Does fantasy football really have to be this hard? Lol

The NFL has never seen an elite rusher, elite passer, and elite processor all in one body before. It’s never happened. There’s a non-zero chance we’re seeing it with Jayden right now. As a ROOKIE.

Per Sportscenter:

Daniels just achieved the highest completion percentage for ANY 4 game stretch **in NFL history**.

82.1% edges out 81.8% by Peyton Manning in 2008.

And he can run for 100 yards and 2 TDs at any freaking moment.

Unreal. This kid is everything.

Steve Young fits the bolded.

The really impressive thing about this, is that he's doing it, with what could probably be called a below average supporting cast.

Damn it, you’re right.

I've been hesitant to start him over Purdy each week. I'm a believer in Daniels and stated in a thread (maybe this one, I don't know) that his accuracy was good at the time he was drafted. Better than people thought he would be. Looks like I'm going to have to play him over Purdy going forward.

This is a great comp. Though I think Daniels is more accurate and Young, at least as of now, had more pocket savvy. If Young hadn't been in the USFL for 2 years then behind Montana for ~3 years, his stats would have been 👀 .

weekly battle between starting him and burrow. so far have selected correctly, but will inevitably get burned.

I've got 2 leagues with the same situation. Playing matchups if they're obvious, going with the running guy when they're not. But yeah, we're going to get it wrong plenty haha.

I've got one dynasty league (1 QB) with Allen and Daniels. Started Daniels last night and it worked out. No idea how that one is going to work out. May try to trade 1.

Given that he is QB1 for Fantasy I think that is probably a good idea.

Yeah, I know. I've just been waiting. Probably too long LOL.

This dude passes the eye test on every level. He just looks different out there. Cool as a cucumber in the pocket, precise accuracy, keeps his eyes downfield, only scrambles when need be, and just seems like a good dude. So glad I was able to trade for him giving up Mahomes and Bucky. Might've saved my season, especially after Rice going down.

Dynasty or redraft? I have Daniels and Lamar on a dynasty roster and people are already sniffing around for him. I'm not planning on moving him but value comps are appreciated.

Good point. Steve Young landed on a Super Bowl winning team.

Commanders? Not so much.

Yeah crazy good start to a career. I feel like the defense is even playing better around him, and really everyone on the team because they are starting to believe they can win for the first time ever

Long-time, long-suffering passionate WFT'skins fan, here, as many know.

I had my doubts about Daniels during the pre-Draft process, and, at the time, would have preferred they drafted Maye.

I was wrong about Daniels, and am very pleased with his showing so far. The kid is one cool customer.

Humble too; I love that - Robert Griffin he's not, and in more ways than one: Daniels is much more a QB who's an athlete vs an athlete playing QB.

I'm still concerned that his slight build puts him in danger of getting hurt, and missing time.

However: while he might be well be, or become, an elite rusher and elite passer (he seems to be on the right track), he is not currently, and may never become, an elite processor (although that, too, may come in time).

Matt Waldman's Top 10 points some of this out, for those who have access to it.

Sure hoping the developmental arc continues to increase. Haven't seen QB play like this for the WFT'skins since...well, it's been a long, long time. Probably 25 years, or so...maybe Brad Johnson? That would have been around the turn of the century. My God.

I remain cautiously optimistic (very bruised and battered from the Snyder regime).

These next 2 weeks will prove a lot to what he can do with the Browns and Ravens on deck. No more iffy defenses like the Cards, Bengals, Giants and Bucs.
Yeah next two games are going to be big tests for him.
I think the big tests are still coming as more film comes out on him and defenses start to get a plan for what eliminating what he is doing well. Still seems like WAS is running a fairly basic offense with no real risk and eliminating much thought processing. Everything is quick single read type plays. If defenses start taking that away where he has to hold longer and make progression reads and more decisions it will show if he isn't ready. I don't think defenses are there yet. Next 4-ish games will be interesting as that catches up.

Yeah definitely. This game against Cleveland will be a good test, and fun to watch him vs a legit defense

I think Cleveland is a pretty average defense. They were great last season, but they have looked quite a bit worse this year, in no small part due to their horrible offense.

Oddly I'm not that worried about this. Players get hurt in all kinds of ways. Running the ball forward is not usually where they get hurt. They have control and can mostly avoid direct hits. There's as much if not more of chance a QB goes down from moving around in the pocket, a defender hitting them low around the knee, or their hand hitting someones helmet on the follow through. I wonder if there has been a study on where QBs get hurt the most, and the severity of those injuries. I'd need to be convinced by stats that running forward is the worst way for a QB to take a hit.

You just know this is the week he comes crashing back to earth. His insane numbers are just not sustainable.

This is the week he goes 60% for 200 yards and a pick or two. Hope he runs one in to save his fantasy day.

I am worried about this too. I’m starting Love against the bad Rams pass d over him this week.

I could see that against Baltimore next week, but against Cleveland, I think he's got another top-3 week in him. Browns back 7 is among the worst in the NFL through 4 games. If Garrett and co. doesn't get there, they are in big trouble.

I read that Daniels uses virtual reality head set with plays for two hours a day. Interesting. Never heard of that. They say it helps limit his body from extra actual reps. Don't know anything about it but it seems smart.
