QB Josh Allen, BUF (2 Viewers)

Josh Allen will be a first round selection in many leagues. I'd consider him in my 16-team league, where getting a good QB on waivers is more challenging than getting a top RB. He's like a 2nd-3rd round RB and top QB in one. With less injury risk. 

 
Josh Allen completed 27-of-37 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns in the Bills' 42-36, Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs in overtime.

Allen led the Bills in rushing as well with an 11-68 line. It's just a shame we had to have a loser in this absolute all-timer of a game. Allen's four touchdowns were 18-, 75-, 27, and 19-yard hookups with Gabriel Davis, as the two connected a total of eight times for 201 yards and the four scores. In maybe the greatest game ever, the Bills and Chiefs combined for 25 points in the final 1:54 of regulation. The 19-yarder to Davis put the Bills up 36-33 with 13 seconds left, but the Chiefs marched down the field in two plays to kick a field goal to send the game to overtime. [...] Allen was absolutely incredible this postseason with five- and four-touchdown games against the Patriots and Chiefs. That's after he finished the fantasy season as the overall QB1. Allen is arguably the best player in the sport, but his team goes home early. This one is going to gnaw at Allen this offseason. The only thing missing from his resume is a Super Bowl ring.

I think that's pretty obvious.  Who else is even in the convo?  Rodgers/Brady are too hold.

I guess it would be between Allen, Herbert, and Mahomes.  All good choices, but I think I'd take Josh too.

I definitely give the “credit” for the tying FG to the horrible Buf D more than to Mahomes.  Allen is fantastic and is top 2-3 QB in the league from a building franchise perspective (and maybe in general).  I’m just saying I’d take the guy who has won a SB and possibly about to win another.
 

 
Wow. This guy makes the Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold picks look just awful. I always want the guy with the big arm, too, but every analytical scout was against this guy. 

He's had twice the career most professional quarterbacks could dream of. What a great two years for the young man. Solid. Cannon. Fleet of foot. Reads defenses well, apparently. Unstoppable when they turned him loose last night. Unflappable. 

Hoo boy. Superlatives abound.

Chris Simms looks at film and adjusts for the players around the QB, the type of throws when he looks at accuracy (which is one reason why he liked Lamar who made lots of aggressive throws and didn't penalize Allen who threw few screens and short passes), and how they do under pressure. And the ability to make big plays. This was his 2018 ranking:

He also ranked Herbert #2 in 2020, ahead of Tua who was 4th. Simms has been good recently for judging QBs and WRs.

Yeah, I'm aware Simms has made some good calls. He's also made some breathtakingly bad ones that leave him on the outs with serious football analysts in the game, it seems. 

That's not my issue to laud or denigrate Simms, it's just by way of conversation. He makes some really good calls and botches others, I've heard.

One has to wonder what trajectory Allen might have taken had he not had Daboll/Dorsey coaching him up. Maybe Allen would have gotten there anyway, but it shows how critical it is for any QB, no matter how talented, to have the right supporting cast around him. That's why I'm a QB buyer wherever Daboll lands - Jacksonville or Chicago would be ideal for him to help out Lawrence or Fields. Hell maybe even Daniel Jones if he goes to the Giants.

Is it Daboll or Dorsey, or just Allen himself, who deserve credit? Dorsey was the QB coach during Cam's MVP season. At Bama, with all the talent on the oline, RB, & WR, I could coach the offense.

He couldn't have played any better last night or this season I don't think. I'm sure he'll take that as challenge accepted.

Wouldn't he be the clear #2 with Mahomes at #1 for teams looking to start a franchise today? 

I mean Herbert looks damn good and is probably the clear #3 with guys like Burrow, Lamar, Dak, following somewhere in line behind but, point being, I'm actually surprised you said "top 2-3" as opposed to the clear second top choice.

When did they suddenly become a horrible Defense?  They were dog tired, no doubt.  But horrible?  Hardly.  They got out-schemed on that final drive of regulation by one of the best offenses we have ever seen.  Both QBs were playing at an elite level, and it truly came down to which QB was going to touch the ball last.  They were BOTH unstoppable.

The AFC is loaded with great young QBs:  Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, and some exciting young talent even beyond that.  We are living in a great era to watch these colossal clashes!  Tune in this week for Mahomes vs. Burrow!

Allen will likely be a top 3 selection in my superflex leagues.  I would take him #2 overall after Taylor, over Mahomes.

I expect Dorsey to take over as OC after Daboll leaves, with little change in offensive philosophy. Dorsey is gonna be a top HC candidate in 2023, assuming the Bills offense continues to be very good. I think Dorsey is good for QBs (was with Newton during his MVP year), but I could call plays and formations for Allen.

 
The Podfather today (Matt Kelley and Ray G Q) calling him the number one dynasty QB over Mahomes. I can see it.

I dealt for him a few weeks ago in a 12 team SF/TE premium PPR and am over the moon about the deal.  Wasn’t sure if it was an overpay at first but just seeing how incredible his ceiling is leaves me with zero regrets.  Posted in the trade forum but for context I gave : Matt Ryan, Dalvin Cook and Tyreek Hill for Josh Allen and a 2023 2nd.  Desperately needed a QB upgrade and figured I’d shoot for the top. 
 

 
The future playoff battles between Allen and Mahomes will be superior to 90% of the respective future Super Bowls. Makes me wish we could magically transfer either the Bills or the Chiefs to the NFC.

Add to this Burrow and Herbert, it's gonna be fireworks for next few years in the AFC. And three of the four have great offenses for at least another year, fourth being Herbert+Chargers not even close to the level of the other three powerhouses.

 
Seeing the Bills and Josh Allen get bumped reminded me of the dark days that followed Tim Duncan and the Spurs getting Derek '0.4' Fisher'd.

Glass is half-full, I think.

No QB has played at a higher level in the postseason than Allen did over the last two games. It's incomprehensible that he won't even make it to the Conference Championship game

not super flex, but 12 team, TE premium, FFPC dynasty league in Win Now mode.

I traded Lawrence and my 2022 1st for Allen at mid-season (when the new car smell hadn’t totally worn off Lawrence yet). I’ll make that trade 10 out of 10 times.

I drafted him as a rookie in the 2nd round.  I admit he wasn't my top targeted QB.  He wasn't the 2nd or 3rd or even 4th targeted QB on my radar.  He was the guy left over.  The last rookie QB picked that year and I grudgingly took him hoping for the best.

Similar story to me but with Herbert. I had Luck abruptly retire so I used my 3rd and 4th round picks on Tua and Herbert (burrow and lock went before Herbert as well). I was throwing a couple of darts hoping one would hit and was pleasantly surprised when it was "the last viable rookie QB" on the board that hit. So I’m set at QB for a while in that league now ;)

 
Had to hurt even more for Josh watching the 2nd half of the Bengals/Chiefs game.

Obviously there’s no saying the game script would have been anywhere close to today, nor that he would have played any better than Mahomes did, but still must sting what could have been.

I think the one difference between what Mahomes did today and what Allen would have done, is I think if the Bengals had gone with just a 3 man rush and dropped 8, Josh would have run all over that.

 
Bills general manager Brandon Beane said the team's offseason roster moves will focus on protecting Josh Allen. 

"First thing, I'm going to try and protect him," Beane said of Allen. "As I said earlier, I have to make sure the o-line is set and that we're confident in them." Allen in 2021 faced the ninth highest QB pressure rate (37.1 percent) while taking 26 sacks, 18th among quarterbacks. Of course, Allen's scrambling and refusal to give up on plays led to many pressures in 2021; Pro Football Focus ranked Allen tenth among all QBs in pressures allowed. PFF graded the Buffalo offensive line as the tenth best pass-blocking unit in the league in 2021. Bills OL Bobby Hart is an unrestricted free agent while OL Ryan Bates is a restricted free agent this offseason. An upgraded offensive line could make Allen even more lethal than he has been over the past couple seasons.

Beane has normally been a strait shooter. So when he says he's gonna focus on protecting Allen, we should be expecting OL in round 1.

 
The Bills Josh Allen said he is working on his ball placement in hopes of giving his receivers opportunities to generate more yards after catch.

Allen noted in a recent press conference that he didn't think the Bills were very good in the YAC department last season. According to PFF, his analysis isn't too far off. Stefon Diggs (320) and Cole Beasley (315) ranked 26th and 27th in the league respectively -- marking a particularly steep drop for Diggs, who in 2020 ranked seventh in the league in YAC with 474 additional yards. Already one of the league's most explosive offenses, the Bills are postured for an elite 2022 season. Any additional effort by Allen and company to improve on the finer points of the game can only bode well for fantasy managers who are heavily invested in this offense.

Anyone bumping him up after tonight's performance? He is clearly qb1, but he looked great tonight. 3rd round no longer seems crazy to me
 
Could have been way better. Feeling very good about getting Taylor #1 and then having Allen fall to the 2/3 turn (non PPR, 6 point passing TD league). I don’t know how you stop this guy. If it wasn’t for stupid turnovers they would have put up 40-50 on the Rams on the road.
