QB Josh Allen, BUF (2 Viewers)

it's 100% true

I've got kids in high school and college - I know how they talk and if you work with middle and high schoolers you are very out of touch with them
Nah, unless those white kids are from predominantly white areas & are using that word because they're stupid and think it makes them "cool."  If they did this in an urban area, or around black kids, use of that word would be an issue.  I've been teaching at urban schools for almost 20 years, and I'm not out of touch with them; you're just wrong.

you have no idea how out of touch you are Bayhawks

but hey, believe what you want to

What are you talking about?  I've taught high school for almost 20 years in Baltimore City, and in an urban community right outside Pittsburgh.  Black kids use the n-word, white kids don't.  It's the truth.  I've  had conversations with some of these students about it.  They don't always voice it this way, but when they use the word, they "own" it; if a white person uses the word, it's offensive to them.  Just because white kids in predominantly white neighborhoods, schools, groups, etc want to use the word doesn't change it's offensive nature, and if they were to use that word around the wrong people, it would cause problems.  What experience with black kids do you have that guides your opinion?

you can call me liar, that's ok

I know high school boys, I'm pretty close with them
How close you are with high school boys (weird for you to say that) matters little.  You may be close with HS boys from your region.  I don’t know where you live, or what select group of HS boys you are close with, but this behavior that you are trying to normalize, isn’t normal, and other than your “the HS boys that I’m close to” stuff, there’s NOTHING to support your belief.

Guys, cut the ####. Nobody besides you cares what kids call each other in your school districts. Josh said it, he owned up to it, and literally everyone is moving on besides you two.

Yes, some white kids use it, and they're idiots.

Huck Finn = Josh Allen?

A little more than a month after the draft, how are the first-round QBs doing?

Excerpt:

Josh Allen is “wowing on all levels”

To repeat: Any bit of praise about a rookie in May probably means little. But sometimes, those moments of wild optimism end up being a sign of things to come.

Keeping that all in mind, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms, who works with Bleacher Report, had a heck of a report on how Josh Allen is doing with the Buffalo Bills.

“I had a member of the media up there first tell me and then I talked to, you know, somebody involved in their organization. Josh Allen is blowing people away,” Simms said on “The Simms and Lefoke Podcast,” via Bills Wire. “I mean blowing people away. It sounds like almost a Carson Wentz thing. Not only, I think everybody is blown away by the mental approach, but practice is eye-opening like we said it would be.

“They’re just blown away. It’s the coaches, the players, everybody. It’s one of those types of things again where I thought about Carson Wentz when I first heard it because those are the things I heard in Philadelphia. I can remember Fletcher Cox actually telling my dad, like, ‘No, no when Carson is out there, the defense kind of gets up and watches him cause we’re always like damn, that was unbelievable.’ And I’m hearing those same type of things from Josh Allen. It’s wowing on all levels right now.”

You would assume Allen won’t start right away, because he was the quarterback who was viewed as needing the most work among the top prospects. But he only has AJ McCarron in his way and if the Bills are seeing the same things Simms was talking about, maybe Allen starts sooner than we think.

Bills coach Sean McDermott wouldn't rule out Josh Allen getting first-team reps at minicamp.

Allen has been practicing with third-stringers behind A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman. He's in the early stages of learning Buffalo's scheme. The Bills want to fast track Allen and could get him some time with the starters before the end of next week's minicamp.

Tyler Dunne @TyDunne

Popped over to One Bills Drive yesterday for an OTA. Safe to say, Josh Allen's arm is as advertised. Comically strong. It won't always be pretty in t-camp but he'll attempt throws the others won't even consider. Not sure how long you can hold him back.

The spin on this from Rotoworld is almost the exact opposite of how McDermott and the Bills have been playing this. Rotoworld's spin makes it seem like the Bills seem to be leaning towards working Allen into the 1s and everything the team has said and done seems to point in the opposite direction.

While it's possible Allen could get some reps with the 1s, the Bills seem content to bring him along slowly IMO.

This is the actually quote from the ESPN article cited in the Rotoworld blurb:

Bills coach Sean McDermott did not commit Thursday to giving rookie Josh Allen first- or second-team reps in practice before the end of minicamp next week.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said No. 7 overall pick Josh Allen will get some first-team reps during this week's minicamp.

It will be a first for the rookie, who has been working behind A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman to this point in the offseason program. The coach did say Allen will still mostly work with the third-team, but this is a step in the correct direction. The Bills seemingly want to make Allen earn it, but it would be a surprise if he does not seriously compete for the starting job in camp.

ABC Buffalo believes Josh Allen could still win the Bills' starting job this summer.

Allen spent the offseason primarily running with the third-team offense. Coach Sean McDermott has already said that is where he will begin camp. Draft position talks, however, and Allen will probably flash enough raw talent this summer to put himself seriously in the running. If Allen wins the Week 1 job, he will be set up to fail with an unimpressive receiver corps behind a rebuilding offensive line.

Josh Allen - QB -  Bills

Josh Allen is beginning Bills camp with the third-team offense.

"We’re going to pick up where we left from OTAs at the quarterback position," coach Sean McDermott intoned. "Josh Allen will work with the threes as we start training camp tonight." It's going to be hard for Allen to get better/prepared with the third-team offense, but you could arguably say the same thing about the Bills' first-team offense. It's a hollowed out skill corps behind an in-transition offensive line. Despite their aggressive move up for Allen, the Bills' best bet is probably to bring him along slowly.

Reportedly a good day for Allen. Long way to go, but good to hear that his play is keeping him in the QB mix and he isn't failing from the start.

Great throw here

That's the kind of throw that looks easy for him to make that McCarron and Peterson really just can't make (or Tyrod Taylor really).

I was at practice today... Allen was the best QB today by a pretty decent margin.  Peterman had a tough practice and McCarron looks like everything you want from a #2 QB.

Allen threw 2 picks, the 1st was throwing a deep out late... in college it is probably a catch and the 2nd was a jump ball to Benjamin that he got his hands on twice but tipped up in the air.

Also threw a great back shoulder and threaded the seam on another pass. He got the work w/ the 1st team O vs 1st team D to end practice.  Had a very nice PA fake and then throw over the middle to Clay too.

His upside is far above anything the other two bring, but he definitely will make mistakes. And weirdly struggles with the short little 5 yard passes (like easy rollouts or flare passes)

BTW I know this is the Allen thread, but man Shady still looks really really good

I think it's a combination of 2 things:

1) They had almost zero of those types of throws at Wyoming. Their offense had almost no screens and short passes so it's just not something he is used to and

2) These are the throws where his footwork still becomes an issue most often. I guess because of their quick nature or something he goes back to his longer throwing base, doesn't shrink it down, and he releases the ball high. Hopefully fixable if he gets enough reps practicing it and ingraining that shorter base to throw from.

WKBW's Joe Buscaglia writes Bills rookie Josh Allen has been the best quarterback at camp thus far.

Allen's lone interception with the first team Saturday was a jump ball that bobbled off the hands of Kelvin Benjamin and was picked off by Jordan Poyer. Buscaglia continues that A.J. McCarron is "playing not to lose his job" and sophomore Nathan Peterman has been the third-best quarterback during camp. Allen originally opened camp with the Bills' third-team offense but has since received more reps with the starters. Although the Bills' best bet is to bring Allen along slowly, this development suggests he may win the starting job out of camp due to the performance (or lack thereof) of Buffalo's other play-callers.

Rotoworld really is the worst. Allen had a great day reportedly, but he threw TWO interceptions in practice and Joe B absolutely even said that in both his tweets and article.

Per ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak, first-rounder Josh Allen "has made some of the best throws of camp but also some of the worst."

Just four days ago, fellow Bills beat writer Joe Buscaglia mentioned Allen being the best passer in camp for Buffalo. It's important to remember how quickly opinions can change when camp has only been open for about a week. Rodak thinks A.J. McCarron has been the steadiest quarterback through the first week and pegs McCarron as the favorite to open the season as the starter.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said they are "not rushing" No. 7 overall pick Josh Allen.

The coach added they plan to take a "calculated" approach with the rookie. Allen has been working primarily with the third-team offense while A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman wage an uninspiring battle for the starting job. It certainly looks like Buffalo plans to sit Allen for at least the start of his rookie campaign, but it would be a shock if he does not make starts this season.

Bills QB Josh Allen completed 9-of-19 passes for 116 yards and one touchdown in Thursday’s preseason game versus the Panthers.

Allen was as advertised Thursday, hurling throws effortlessly while also showing a lighter touch across the middle of the field. He also missed wildly and displayed poor timing and footwork on a few occasions. All in all the No. 7 overall pick checked every box of every scouting report on him, both good and bad. The Bills are in no hurry to hand him the starting job, but it's obvious he possesses the highest potential among the signal-callers on Buffalo's roster. It would be shocking if he didn't make at least a few starts this season.

Josh Allen got some reps with the first-team offense at Friday's practice.

It's the first time Allen has repped with the starters at training camp. Allen had a strong preseason debut, throwing for 116 yards and a touchdown. The Bills don't want to rush Allen, but he could put heat on A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman for the Week 1 job.

Josh Allen was promoted to the second-team offense in Monday's practice.

Allen worked "exclusively" with the second team after receiving his first second-team rep of the summer on Sunday. Reporter Joe Buscaglia believes Allen could get some first-team reps as early as Tuesday. After a mixed preseason debut last week, Allen will face off with the Browns this Friday.

He looked like a rookie, but I like him throwing a bomb on his first pass the other night.

I'm starting to see why an NFL scout would find his natural talent to be alluring. The cool kids are hating on Josh Allen, and he's not the nicest dude off the field, either. But it's also not hard to envision picking him up in a best ball lineup in one of the last two rounds or playing him one week in DFS GPP. If you don't get penalized more than -1 for an interception he can potentially be a great value. One easy toss to Kelvin Benjamin in the end zone followed by one long throw to Corey Coleman in the same game can be a nice payoff. Keep an open mind.

I have to admit. That looked A LOT better than what I had in my head from just listening to the game live. Both of those deep passes to Foster look like they would have been catches with a starting caliber WR on the receiving end.
I do not want him making that back-foot throw at 3:38 routinely against first-string DBs, but that was a pretty impressive display of arm strength.

Overall, I thought he looked very good, but he was playing with and against guys are just hoping to make a roster.  You can definitely see why he was drafted so high.

Allen looked great tonight. I think McCarron is out as starter. Peterman may still get handed the job, but Allen making a very strong case to be Week 1 starter.

Good scoring play but nothing noteworthy otherwise. How many times did he get to the second read before bailing?

Josh Allen completed 9-of-13 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason versus the Browns.

Allen's 4.6 yards per attempt don't do his performance justice as Allen led the Bills on scoring drives on all three of his possessions. The first was a 15-play, 80-yard drive which ended in a 2-yard touchdown strike to Rod Streater where Allen climbed the pocket on third down to put the Bills on the scoreboard. Allen managed the pocket well and frequently extended plays with his legs, adding 18 yards on three rushing attempts. Playing with the second-team offense, Allen should be promoted to the first team with the injury to AJ McCarron. He's looking like a lock to open the year as the starter.
