QB Josh Allen, BUF (1 Viewer)

Next Gen Stats
Josh Allen was traveling 16.26 mph when he let go of the ball on his 42-yard completion to Ray Davis, the fastest speed by a quarterback on a deep completion (20+ air yards) over the last 2+ seasons (since Week 1, 2022).

Since the beginning of the 2022 season Josh Allen leads the league with 99 total TDs.

The next closest player is Jalen Hurts with 81.

That is a big delta.

On 4th & 2 with 2:27 left in regulation, Josh Allen dropped back before breaking off a 26-yard TD run.

Allen had just a 1.2% chance of scoring a touchdown once he tucked the ball to run. It was Allen's first scramble TD run against the Chiefs in his career.

I would love to better understand how they calculate these probabilities. I’m open to the idea that an average QB only had a 1.2% chance of scoring a rushing TD there…….but Josh Allen? Color me skeptical……

Josh Allen-Amari Cooper-Josh Allen TD 📽️

Allen accelerated from 9.70 mph to 16.61 mph in 1.8 seconds to beat linebacker Dee Winters to the pylon for the touchdown.

Allen is the 4th player in NFL history to have a receiving TD on a pass he threw.

I have no dog in this hunt, but fantasy platforms have Allen with:
  • 2 Pass TDs
  • 1 Rush TD
  • 1 Rec TD
But NFL.com only has him with:
  • 2 Pass TDs
  • 1 Rush TD
I think they're both wrong. Everyone went bonkers saying that Allen got a receiving TD, but I don't see it that way. If it were up to me:
  • 1 Pass TD (Hollins)
  • 2 Rush TD (Allen, lateral from Cooper)
Once the ball is lateralled, wouldn't it then be a rushing TD? As mentioned, I don't really care. It was fun to watch. Just not sure it's a TD reception once the ball changes hands.

Flame away.

NFL.com has it flawed since someone has to get credit for the second TD reception.

It was a reception by Cooper who gets credited for the catch. Allen gets credited for a receiving TD and the 7 yards but without the reception. You can't have a rushing TD that started from a forward pass play. A pass play that is lateralled continues on as a pass play.

Allen ends up with 2 TD passes, 1 TD receiving, and 1 TD rushing.

Gibbs got credited the same way earlier this season off a lateral that started as a reception by ARSB.

This has happened before. Just not back to the QB. Think of the infamous Randy Moss lateral back in the day. A pass that goes 40 yards but then gets lateralled for the last 5 and you want to call that a rushing TD?

Allen get a receiving TD without having a reception, and he gets the receiving yardage associated from the lateral to the end zone.

Did Allen catch a pass?

Was the play itself a pass from the QB. Yes. Doesn't matter whether Allen caught a pass. Someone on the play DID.
For sure. That’s why Amari got a reception.
Then how can you want to call it a rushing TD when it is a passing play?
I just don't want to call it a RECEIVING TD when Josh never had a reception.

And also, to be clear, I'm really just chumming the waters for fun. The outcome of this has zero effect on any of my leagues. I just thought it was funny when everyone was like, OMG Josh you got a receiving TD!!!!1!11Juan!!! when he never really caught a pass.

ETA (again just to stir the pot), what if Amari fumbled the ball and Allen picked it up and scored. What would that be?

Jesus. Of course in a week that doesn't matter to me lol. Hopefully he can keep it going.

Likewise, heading in to playoffs as 3rd seed, playing 1st seed in a dead rubber in my dynasty. Looks like I’ll grab the win. Doesn’t mean anything but a good morale boost to the boys and Jayden Reed can breathe a sigh of relief.

Absolute beast. Him and hurts combining for 75 points approx in my SF

First player with combined 35 TDs five years in a row.

Already the only player with combined 40 TDs four years in a row and on pace to add a fifth.

Two dome games in a row, over 1000 yards, 5 passing and 5 rushing TDs. Imagine his stats if he wasn’t playing multiple games a year outdoors in Buffalo.

Or if he had HOFers around him on offense.

Or if he had the high level coaching earlier in his career that most of his peers received.

The most elite talent at QB the NFL has ever seen.

Should win MVP in a landslide. Playing out of his mind
3,395 yds, 25 TDs, 5 INTs, 103.5 Rating

vs.

3,580 yds, 34 TDs, 3 INTs, 120.7 rating
You’re just posting stats man. Watch the games.
I see Lamar carrying BAL and Josh carrying BUF. To claim that Allen should win MVP in „a landslide“ is IMHO incorrect.
Ok. I can see your point. I thought you were trying to say Lamar should get it.

No idea, since I have only seen highlights of BUF games.

Lamar is having an all time passing season on a Manning/Brady level while rushing for a nother 1k. He will be in the MVP competition. His season is ridiculous.
