QB Justin Fields, NYJ (3 Viewers)

Fields was diagnosed with a dislocated toe after exiting Thursday's practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Fields left the field on a cart and was said to be limping some. He reportedly avoided a fracture, but he's still undergoing further testing to analyze the full severity of his injury. For now, we know that it's a dislocated toe -- and not the big toe -- on his right foot. Tyrod Taylor figures to temporarily take over as the first-team quarterback, at least for the next few practices.

Overreaction season is underway. This might actually help his fantasy value even more.

Very unfortunate

From a FF perspective, Wilson takes a hit. Breece should get a nice bump

could argue the opposite

Jets will bring in a better passing QB and running game takes a hit.
That, and they were already talking up a massive RBBC, so ok maybe 3 RB get more carries - that’s not exactly a boon to Hall.
If you believe that nonsense about a 3-headed monster, I have a great penny stock opportunity for you (y)

That would be a huge coaching malpractice since Hall is far and away their most talented RB. Pretty sure Glenn would like to keep his job a while.
Hall looked bad last year. Like, so bad I traded him as soon as I could in the offseason.

I don’t know if it was residual issues from his knee repair, or if he’s just less explosive as a result, but he looked… not great.

in that light I do buy the committee approach they’ve repeatedly said they’re going to take. Perhaps I’m gullible, or perhaps they’re sincere in their desire to mix it up. With Hall’s free agency pending, it would probably behoove them to see if one of the others is capable rather than backing up the brinks truck for Hall.
I thought Hall looked fine. Team was a dumpster fire and seemed really unfocused. But perception differences aside, he's still the best RB they have by far.

As far as his contract, why not give him a big workload and save Allen if they don't intend to give him a big money contract? They should know what they have in Allen by now since they are touting him as a big part of a RBBC. Now, I personally don't believe they really mean that, but if they do, they are saying they like Allen and it makes sense they know he can be the guy.

They should trade Breece now IMO. Obviously they aren't going to be a good team this year and it seems his value would be higher now.

Ouch. That might be more significant than it sounds.

For one, might (probably) broke it. For another, that injury could conceivably hurt a rushing QB more than most.

Very not good. Not as bad as torn Achilles, but not good.

A dislocation is a complete separation of the bones in a joint. Often, the ligaments that hold your bones together are torn. The bones of your toe can be dislocated by jamming your toe or by any injury that causes bending or twisting.
You’ll feel sharp pain and experience swelling, and sometimes bruising. You may also hear a tearing or snapping noise. Your toe may look crooked or out of alignment.
A dislocated toe is a fairly common injury, especially in contact sports like football. It’s also common in activities that involve jumping.
It’s possible to have a dislocation and a chip or fracture of one of the bones of the toe at the same time.

I'm unclear how Tyrod did. Supposedly he did great as a leader and came in making some noise but the reporters were praising the DBs.
My guy Adrian threw two beautiful passes and Glenn said how he and Taylor already have familiarity with the offense. Perfect timing for me to get fired up for a third stringer that won't play but I'm gonna do it

"Not big toe" is because all the little toes just get taped together.
I'll be surprised if they truly do anything else
It depends on if it’s broken, and whether or not there’s ligament damage. Toes can be tricky.*

*a true gamer would tell the trainer to cut it off & get right back on the field.

The dislocation is the tricky part.

If it were just broken or fractured it would then be the most common injury in the history of basketball and almost never reported.
Been reading on legit medical sites that there is always ligament damage.

At this point we need to know which toe. Anything but the big toe seems like a lesser issue. Big toe could be impactful to his season. Heck, for a rushing QB any toe could be bad if it’s causing pain.

But until we know exactly which toe and to what extent it’s damaged, all we can do is speculate.

This is from the huddle

Updating earlier reports, New York Jets QB Justin Fields (toe) had X-rays come back negative for a fracture, but he does have a dislocated toe on his right foot, which is not his big toe. He'll have an MRI for more information.

I don't know.
I played in the NBAD league and other minorish leagues and I got a single day or "take the weekend" if anything happened to a small toe. We all did.

We're sorta preprogrammed weird with these too. You probably thought something serious as you stubbed a toe and OMG how bad is it but yet two days later, no big deal. It's a weird body part that way.

I don't think he can miss much time for the "welfare of his career" so I think it'll be brief.

They probably have a day or two more then two days off, then pads come on. I'd guess that.

ETA- we all played and probably muttered ouch a bunch or cursed but it didn't stop us or hold us back

BUT I'm still hung up on the dislocation

That’s good news, I guess. Time will tell what the impact is. I’d expect him to be shut down for a little while, which sucks at this point as this tends to be when a QB in a new situation develops chemistry.

GW, their new rookie TE, peripheral WRs - gonna be tough to know who the 2nd read is if Fields misses a lot of time here.

Ah who am I kidding, that would mean fields makes a 2nd read.

Sure, but with a guy who’s FF value (and some RL value) is dependent on scrambling, it’s hard to say what this will do to his burst.

At some point I expect to read “it comes down to pain tolerance” or something like that. Every player is a little bit different.

X-rays neg and not big toe sounds like best case scenario though.

Fields will be fine, its pain tolerance, and he's not a punk. He needs reps, so take a week off, get some rehab, wrap that SOB up and be ready for preseason game 2 and 3.

Let's hope this toe, soft tissue injury somewhat hinders him all year to the point he's not so eager to take off running. Hopefully he'll hand the ball off at the goalline or pass the ball instead of being so quick to run.

As he’s my keeper I couldn’t disagree more. 😉

Justin Fields is considered “day-to-day” after dislocating a toe in his right foot on Thursday.
The team shared in a statement that “Fields avoided serious injury and significant missed time.” Fields reportedly did not suffer any type of fracture. Connective tissue concerns have not been addressed. Ultimately, this is a positive report for the dual-threat quarterback. He has just under 6.5 weeks to rehab the injury before the Jets take on the Steelers in Week 1. Pending a successful rehab program, Fields profiles as a high-upside QB1.
You may all exhale.

Missing training camp time cant be good for the "Maybe this is the year he becomes a good passer" crew.
The worst thing for Fields is to have any more people think "let's see what Martinez can do?"

Search for his highlights. He's got poise and leadership and oh btw 4.5 speed.
Fields' athleticism is the draw. He's a freak he's blessed, all that.
Taylor is old and injury prone and who is curious?

If Martinez can play a lot of a game and show what he can do AND show those wheels...it will stir things up.
Fields can't have a guy also running fast and athletic making better decisions and leading better.
He has to keep Martinez buried on the depth chart.

Martinez was UFL MVP and then very good with the Jets last summer- even player of the game once or twice in preseason. That stuff feeds curiosity. We love a guy that does well in camp. He's gotta keep him buried
