QB Justin Fields, NYJ (2 Viewers)

I think this week will answer some questions to if the Broncos game was for real.

Washington pass russ is going to be too much for the Bears OL, however their secondary isn't great so JF should be able to find openings. Only question is if he can do it fast enough.

I have no choice but to roll with JF due to byes but he has been my QB from week one and will remain so this week. Thursday night games are always a different animal to me. I'm not a fan of going with Thursday night players but sometimes I have no choice. I'm also not a huge fan of playing London players for what it is worth. I find players seem to score less on Thursday night. The London games feel the same way to me. I do not know if anyone has done the analytics on this and maybe this is a good topic to discuss in another thread but would be an interesting study sure someone has done the research so maybe I should at the very least google it.

Feeling much better as a dynasty investment. If the Bears do move off of him, it looks like there is enough there that someone will make him their QB 1 next year. Odds are that team will look to use his legs a lot more than what the Bears are currently doing.

Holy hell, the mental gymnastics some of y'all go through to put this kid down is just amazing. Fields has objectively been one of the best QBs in the league since the debacle that was week 3. Let's look at those stats:

QBR of 69 and 77 for week 4 and 5. For reference QBR of 75 is considered pro bowl caliber.
averaging 300 ypg
averaging 4 TD per game in the air

Outside the stats, he's doing everything the naysayers said he couldn't do.
- 1 read QB? Nope. You can watch his eyes and his hitch as he goes through progressions
- can't throw to the inside. Nope, he's peppering the field with throws.
- is just a RB in the QB position. Nope. He's run for 200 yards and a touchdown in 4 games. ~35 yards per game in the past two games.

He's done this with one of the worst OCs in the league, an OL that has a hard time getting out of their own way, and a HC who's in well over his head. Repeated calls (sometimes back to back), receivers going to the same spots, OL protection schemes that just don't make sense, etc. Seriously, the amount of WTF plays this team has run is just insane. Oh and the DC resigned because of some undisclosed inappropriate activity. Speaking of the DEF, it's a group that has allowed 29PPG during this losing streak. To be fair, they played well last night even with 2/3 of the secondary injured.

Look, JF could have easily packed it in this season, gotten traded to another team for peanuts during the last year of his contract and likely become a starter on that team. Instead, the dude doubled down on work and has turned his (and possibly the Bears) season around. From a fan's perspective, this is exactly what you want to see from your starter QB. From a fantasy perspective, this kid has proven he can kill defenses with his arm and with his legs. Those QBs are exceptionally rare in this day and age.

That's definitely the last time I'll bench him. I figured there was a good chance the Football Team's d-line could be in his face all night, but that didn't happen. He looked so much better than he did those first few weeks. That upcoming schedule is juicy!

I'd be really bummed leaving those points on my bench, but having DJ Moore's 49pts makes up for it. :)

so crazy how he can go where to he was two weeks ago, to currently leading the NFL in passing TD's lol :ROFLMAO:

4 TD games can boost the bottom line for sure.

Fields had a very good game and to me is always worth starting but it did seem like Washinton was uninspired to say the least. A couple shows today say the just laid down. Pretty early in the season if that is the case.

Fields like Jackson can both win you a game on their own, or lose you a game on their own.

Anyone that thinks he is going to finish as a top 5 or even top 12 QB every week is in for a rude awakening. This is going to be a really bumpy ride. Enjoy the great weeks and don’t forget the potential when he has a game that is a huge clunker. We can only hope he has more great games than clunkers and has ok games sprinkled in as well.

So glad I have kept starting this kid after the first rough weeks. Don’t know where this roller coaster ride is headed through the season but swinging for the fences every week is fun and how you win competitive leagues.
Agreed…but it’s not like he hasn’t done it before. Was on the fence and had stroud in there and then swapped before the game. He’s Got such a high upside that’s it’s tough to sit him.

Fields-Stroud is a nice combo, especially for dynasty

MRI Tomorrow, x-Rays were negative. The thumb on his throwing had was dislocated, they posed it back, but he still couldn't play.

It’s a lost season and Bears will be drafting a new QB, right?
Most likely scenario, yes. I'd expect Poles to acquire as many more picks as possible before the trade deadline including trading Fields. This coming from one of the biggest Fields stans out there. The situation is not good for the Bears nor Fields. I think he'll do really well in a system that has stable, good offensive coaching and that is not and has never been the Bears.

I agree with your last point. There's enough raw material there to develop a franchise QB, but they have not put him into situations he could succeed. Under Fox or Eberlus/Getsy.

Someone will come along and think they can fix him and the Bears should be able to profit.

One thing for thought is the leverage Caleb Williams has to simply return to school. If the Bears lose out sure they get pick 1, but losing out is ugly. Why would Caleb watch the Bears lose out and and think that looks perfect for me?

I think if the Bears secure the number one pick Caleb Williams would 100% play for them - The current GM and coach would be jettisoned and the new regime would be appealing to him (Ownership will make sure of that).

Additionally they have a lot of draft capital to build that team in short order (if they draft better than Ryan Poles, that is)

This thread is funny....worst QB in the league to best QB to minor injury and lining up his replacement. This may even top the tush push for divergent opinions.
You summed up the thread in one post. Ha ha. Im not greedy. I don't care if he wins or loses football games. I just want him to stay healthy and be a top ten fantasy qb. That's it.

I agree. I think he would play for the Bears, but I don't think a big selling point is a new unproven GM and a new unproven head coach. Curious if the Bears would pay up for experience. You would think an established GM would be more than willing to work for a team with 2 top 5 picks and cap space.

I think they will make a pretty big offer for Lincoln Riley to be the head coach - there will be a ton of people interested in the GM spot, it’s a great destination with all of those draft picks.

They should take a look at what Lions did to rebuild and that’s focus on the lines.

Not saying your path isn't gonna happen it's just a buuuuuuunch of opinion and speculation. Bears lose out. Caleb likes Bears. Bears fire coach. Bears fire gm. Bears hire Riley. I will say if I was Bears fan I could surely get behind all that. Not hating, but the Bears don't have the best history of making the right moves.

Neither did the Lions until they did...

Yes sir. Perfect example of the importance of a head coach putting his stamp on things.

That's what I figured. Sometimes there are uncommon definitions I'm not aware of too. I wonder if the "source" actually said that, or if Schefter just typo'ed.

Well. I guess the latest news is promising? Doubtful is better then out. One thing for sure is that Fields has to be aware this is a pivotal point in his career. The chatter for Bears to move on is real. He has to hear it. Gotta think he gets on the field as soon as possible. For the record I do own a share of Fields, but I'm also intelligent enough to form opinions with that share.

Bears HC Matt Eberflus said Justin Fields (thumb) is doubtful for Week 7 against the Raiders.
Eberflus didn’t offer a specific timetable for when Fields could return, saying, “it’s really going to come down to grip strength.” Fields is not expected to undergo surgery at this time, but will instead rehab to regain his grip strength. Rookie Tyson Bagent completed 10-of-14 passes for 83 yards and one interception in relief of Fields, and would likely draw the start in Week 7 against the Raiders. If it’s not Bagent, it will be Nathan Peterman, who has mysteriously kept an NFL job for seven seasons despite throwing for 712 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 13 interceptions since entering the league in 2017.

sounds like he avoided serious injury (no ligament damage requiring surgery)

Sucks though - would have liked to have had him against the Raiders.

Sigh

As cautiously optimistic as I am I don't even think we can say that yet. We won't really know anything until that swelling goes down and they can take a look.

I thought I’d read that he had an MRI this AM.

The latest update is they’re going to rehab it, which means no surgery.

Ya he did. Which is good. MRIs aren't always 100% though. Swelling can give inaccurate diagnosis sometimes. Passing the first MRI is huge. Next step is how hand looks structurally once swelling goes down. Sure wish it was the non throwing hand.
