QB Justin Fields, NYJ (6 Viewers)

Love him or not, Fields was a FF league winner a couple of years ago. And the raw skill set hasn’t diminished.

But there also isn’t any evidence of improvement. 😤
Yes, he can run, but NFL coaches don’t care about your fantasy team. Mike Tomlin won’t tolerate the fumbles and bad sacks.

Dude, Tomlin loves Fields. Man crush for years.

And no coach in the league will keep running a QB out there that is a sack and turnover machine.

I see Fields as Lamar light.

Are you trying to hold my hand?

This is going to be interesting.

Fields has to know his payday depends on what he does with this.

He is probably best described as a really good 'sandlot' player but that might not work here. BigBen and AB were about as good a combo of that type as anyone ever. Everytime Ben scrambled I was like "Big play to AB coming." Can Fields and Pickens do that? I don't see Pickens in that role yet but even 80% of that could be decent.

Or the open WRs that Fields will refuse to throw to, as he stands in the pocket, vaguely looking down the field, as he waits until it's time to take off running.

The guy cannot run an offense.

Nobody has said that Fields is a good QB irl.

Fields has a very high ceiling as a fantasy QB and is a potential league winner if he becomes the starter for whatever reason.

Fields starting this weekend is an instant DFS play at $5,000, and a bench stash as a potential league winner

He could do awesome with much better coaching and play calling around him. Could easily runaway with the starting job

People forget that after week 5 last year Fields was leading the NFL in passing TDs

Do you guys think Steelers playing Denver in week 2 has any influence on Wilson automatically getting the start next week regardless of how week 1 goes with Fields?
If Fields balls out and (gasp!) wins, he’s starting game 2.

Tomlin doesn’t GAF about Russ/Broncos

If it was Seattle maybe but Russ wasn’t s*** in Denver, and honestly I don’t think Tomlin would care even if it was the Seahawks.

Tomlin cares about the Steelers winning football games.

Respectfully disagree.

Tomlin is old school and everything he's said/done points to Wilson having won the job outright due to the body of work in training camp.

I can't see him awarding the job to Fields after only one week due to a minor Russ injury.

Obviously if the injury lingers for multiple weeks and Fields balls out during that time the equation changes.

Well at least I'm in position to find out (lucky to get him off waivers) if the latter occurs after losing Love today.

According to reports Wilson is very limited, so Fields may be starting week 2 regardless.

They were both meh in preseason.

Doesn’t matter how old school he is. If Fields plays better week 1 than Russ played in his one completely mediocre preseason game, he’ll win the job.

He almost won the job in the preseason.

not like Russ balled out - he led the team to 0 points & looked bad doing it. fields arguably outplayed Russ.

And then when Fields craps the bed in Wk 2 (because inconsistency is what he does) now you've got a QB controversy less than three weeks into the season

GL w/ that approach

I’m not a fortune teller my friend.

I’m merely speculating on what happens if Fields plays well this week. IMO he’ll earn another start because Russ hasn’t shown anything & his calf issue hasn’t gone away in a month.

if he earns a 2nd start I’m sure it’ll be a week to week evaluation.

That said, the Steelers do have added incentive to start Fields to see if he’s worth signing to a longer term deal, or if they’re drafting a QB.

If Russ wasn’t hurt, or if Russ looked good in his preseason start, I’d have a different opinion. But he is, and he didn’t, so here we are, likely taking it a week at a time.

Ps - they’ve had a QB controversy the entire preseason because Russ’s calf forced them into that situation. It’s been a controversy.

Okay, semi got lucky with the Love news, my issue is this:

In super flex format so I roll the dice and drop Wilson and hope Fields seizes the job?

I feel Wilson is a place holder, at best if you have a great team. I feel Fields is a league winner if given the chance.

Again this is my 2.B QB in a SF league.

Thoughts?

That’s tough because you KNOW love is gonna miss time.

To clarify, are you saying you have Love, Fields, and Russ & want to drop Russ for [x player]?

Or do you have Love+Russ and want to drop Russ for Fields?

I have Love, Goff & Wilson. I'm debating dropping Wilson for Fields. It was an easy decision on Thursday. Now, not so much.

can you just drop a bottom of the roster skill player and have both wilson and fields?

Chase Brown or Jayden Reed?

I’d probably do that. Goff can easily carry you while love is out.

Fields upside is significantly higher than Russ.

Q: is there an emergency WW option for week 5 if Fields flames out?

here's my take: if you think Russ is substantially better than whichever Pats QB is starting in week 5, (I don't) then don't do it.

If you want to take a gamble that Fields thrives and doesn't give back the starting job, the ceiling is significantly higher than any of Russ, or the 2 NEP QBs.

Ps - there's also a greater than zero chance that Love is back in week 3 or 4.

since it's only 3-6 weeks that Love is out he could be back week 4 but I would and I would think the Pack might but not rush Love back

Can Fields and Pickens do that? I don't see Pickens in that role yet but even 80% of that could be decent.
Might wanna check out DJM’s numbers from last year. Fields can absolutely support a WR1, even if his real life QB play isn’t great - he’s a spectacular FF play.
Oh I know.

But DJ is great at getting the most out of his QB (as was AB). Not sure Pickens is that guy (yet)

Now being reported that Love will miss about 3 weeks.

I’d grab Fields if he’s still available. Ceiling play.
Yup. Picked him up this AM. Would love to see him seize the starting job but I doubt it will happen.
I don't know why not. Calf injuries tend to linger and it has been reported Russ was very limited on Friday. I suspect he will sit next week as well. Plus he's as mobile as a rock. One tackle and he will likely reaggravate the injury he has.

Also, he’s not very good even without the calf injury.

Wilson is smart with the ball and that means a lot.
