QB Justin Fields, NYJ (2 Viewers)

Would you start him and take a chance having to watch a Lawrence Welk marathon if he scores less than 20 fantasy points?
Debating it myself but it's between him and a bunch of other speculative mediocrity with upside (Lawrence, Darnold, Caleb).

Mark Kaboly
Arthur Smith said it was his choice to not have Justin Fields throw in middle of field. Didnt want to have Jessie Bates wreck the game. He has a ton of respect for Bates.

"Our Jason Bourne -- TJ Watt -- wrecked the game, theirs didnt"
Wonder if people love or hate this.
Arthur is a different bird for sure
I'd assume hate it. Look. You may damn well have no intention of successfully attacking the middle of the field. Thats fine. Doesn't mean you don't use the middle of the field at all. Makes u so one dimensional
One? They threw right and left

Let me know if you are taking the Lawrence Welk challenge.
Just the thought of it is making me sleepy.
A one, a two, a, a three….

He's playing well for the Steelers but not putting up the fantasy point I had hoped for and expected.
From fantasy it's been a disappointment for sure, but Faust's post above is correct, Fields's accuracy on the move has been remarkable.

I think if he keeps the job those plays will start to hit and we can expect more production going forward.

It's a matter of getting Tomlin to trust him enough to allow him to open the offense up and be okay with occasional mistakes.

It is a wait-and-see situation. He still is one of the best running quarterbacks in the business today, and it is early in the season. The Steelers are leaning on their defense right now, and it is working. Let's see how it goes and how Art and Tomlin play this as time passes.

Meh. He’s 2-0 but not sure I would say he is playing well. 1 offensive TD in 2 weeks. He hasn’t made many errors which is nice.
He had a much better game than his stat line shows.

Several long plays called back due to penalty, or advanced because of DPI.

They’re gonna keep him as the starting QB. They’re 2-0. Would be crazy to go to Russ.

Looks like a neutered version of Justin Fields to me. Fantasy Justin and Winning Justin will probably never mesh. If he keeps playing smart, he might be perfect for the Steelers though.
Agreed.

Playing largely mistake free (1 Fumble, not lost) Still managed 29 RuYd, threw a TD.

He looks good. The confidence will only build, too. Steelers stole Fields.

Had a short TD called back on a questionable penalty also. He may not be running as much because they have nobody decent backing him up with Wilson inactive. Will be interesting to see if that changes when Wilson dresses. I’m definitely holding.

Not advocating for it being a grand idea, or anything, but I still maintain Tomlin's first choice was always Fields. He's had "pants feelings" for him since OSU days.

Signing Russ always felt lik he & Khan "CYA-ing" when it appeared getting a deal done for Fields was getting dicey, and Wilson was basically free.

Watched every min of the game. He played far better (specifically in the first half) than the stat line shows. Penalties KILLED lots of FF points, stupid minor ones too. 3 on one drive that got the O lineman who had all 3 benched. He threw a few absolute dimes. Second half was like game one. Very neutered offense with Denvers D selling out on stopping him from running. Can’t imagine they feel like Russ has more to offer the offense at this point.

That deep ball to Pickens that got called back was as good a throw as any QB in the NFL made this week.

The one to Austin, where he drew the roughness penalty, was also impressive.

Started him over Purdy this week without any material repercussion. Will monitor them week to week, but love Fields' upside.

So y’all are still starting him or just holding him?
I'm holding him but not afraid to start him. In the league, I have him. I also have Kyler and Baker. Fields last season, though, carried me to a "ship," or I guess I should say he was a main clog in getting me there, so I know his potential. If he starts running more, I can see myself returning to him when matchups dictate, but I like Kyler a little more right now.

I agree Fields has great upside in fantasy football.

I just don’t think the Steelers offensive philosophy provides a very high probability for him to hit that ceiling. Everything the Steelers do is controlled and low risk with an occasional shot down the field.

I’m dropping in 1QB redraft.

It’s still early and the offense should have a few more TD’s than what they currently have…regression is coming and he still has a good rushing floor. Pittsburgh will start playing average NFL offenses soon enough.

One more variable that I forgot above. I think Russell Wilson will start in week 4.

Doesn't mean Russ starts rest of the year but it is possible.

Russ should be the starter when healthy. If they continue to win that might make it a little tough to make the switch even if Fields isn't the reason they're winning.

Fields is the reason they’re winning. He’s playing winning football. He hasn’t throw an Int. They’re 2-0. He’s driving down the field for scores.

Justin Fields is directly responsible for 2-0

The defense is also directly responsible for 2-0

Fields is not just along for the ride.

Watch the clip I just posted of the plays negated by penalty. Russ isn’t capable of those throws any more. And he’s not mobile enough to play behind that shaky PIT OL.

Russ should absolutely not be the starter when healthy. It would be absurd to make that change.

Also not for nuthin, Van Jefferson IS directly responsible for me losing this week, since that TD woulda given me the lead.

Sometimes it’s better not knowing things.

Pickens made life very difficult for surtain…impressive. They are gonna connect for shot plays often when variance hits
As the confidence in fields grows, the deep shots will come. You can see it building already. There’s chemistry there.

Fields made that throw on the run. Preposterous.

Russ would have been crushed in a heap 7 yards behind the LOS at that point.

The Unlocking of Justin Fields’ Talents Has Just Begun in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have long been a team defined by their defensive prowess and storied history. However, the recent addition of quarterback Justin Fields has injected a new sense of excitement and potential into the franchise. Fields, who stepped in for an injured Russell Wilson, has shown glimpses of brilliance that suggest his talents are just beginning to be unlocked in Pittsburgh.

A Promising Start

Fields’ journey with the Steelers began with a promise to the fans: to overcome the slow starts that had plagued the team. In his first two starts, Fields has delivered on that promise, leading the Steelers to victories and demonstrating his ability to manage the game effectively. His performance against the Denver Broncos, where he led the team to a 13-6 win, showcased his poise and potential.

A Dynamic Playmaker

Fields’ dynamic ability as a playmaker is what sets him apart. His mobility and arm strength provide the Steelers with a dual-threat quarterback who can extend plays and make things happen both through the air and on the ground. This versatility is something the Steelers have been missing in recent years and could be the key to unlocking a more potent offense.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite the promising start, Fields faces several challenges. The Steelers’ offense has struggled with consistency, and Fields will need to continue improving his decision-making and accuracy. However, with a strong supporting cast and a coaching staff committed to his development, the opportunities for growth are immense.

The Road Ahead

As Fields continues to settle into his role, the Steelers’ fanbase has every reason to be optimistic. His potential to become a franchise quarterback is evident, and with each game, he gains more confidence and experience. The unlocking of Justin Fields’ talents has just begun, and if his early performances are any indication, the future.

Roman Wilson’s Potential

Roman Wilson, a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had quickly made a name for himself in training camp. His speed, agility, and ability to make contested catches had impressed coaches and teammates alike. Wilson’s versatility allows him to play both in the slot and on the outside, making him a valuable asset for the Steelers’ offense. If Wilson can establish himself as a reliable target, it will open up the offense and take some pressure off Pickens and the running game.

He needs to run. There were a couple times last week in Denver the lane was there for a decent gain and he didn't take it. I get he needs to prove he can pass but the running makes him dynamic.

I’m reasonably certain he’s operating as instructed.

IMO the rushing will come eventually. But he might be shackled by design for the time being.
Yep. It's coaching. Tomlin is coaching the hell out of him to a 2-0 record. It's a process. This process is why I don't think we see Russ this year. He sits Fields now and that process gets put on pause. As the two begin to develop with each other we will start to see more of Fields ability. Imo
