QB Justin Fields, NYJ (5 Viewers)

Here’s what the box score didn’t show:
Those stats are from Pickens POV, but there was also DPI on a deep throw to Van Jefferson that setup the (non) TD to Pickens. The ball to Van Jefferson was very well placed and the DB obviously held one of Jeffersons arms to prevent the catch. Fields played better than his stats indicated for sure, due to penalties and the conservative approach these first two weeks. Tomlin is conservative in general, but that approach made sense since they are starting a rookie at C, a 7th rounder from last year at RG, and a rookie (or 2nd year first round pick) at RT... and both games were on the road.

He needs to run. There were a couple times last week in Denver the lane was there for a decent gain and he didn't take it. I get he needs to prove he can pass but the running makes him dynamic.
I’m reasonably certain he’s operating as instructed.

IMO the rushing will come eventually. But he might be shackled by design for the time being.
Agreed.

He's been my place holder for Love and I'm beginning to regret holding him when I could hjave used a waiver claim on Baker.

Now I feel stuck with only Geno, Darnold, and Watson options available.

Anyone else holding?

Darnold has been solid. As has Geno.

In SF I’ve been starting fields in 2 leagues and he’s new great for that.

If I were you I’d grab Darnold or Geno. Or both.

I'm holding in two leagues. Maybe starting him in both. Have him starting in my SF league (Love still out) and currently have Darnold in over him in another but may swap him out.

I’m holding Goff, Cousins, and Fields. Just need to get a read which two I want to keep. 4 pt TD, 1/25 pass scoring. Regarding Fields, just need some teams to push them. I think that’s coming

I’m looking at Geno to replace him but I can’t do it- fields has too much of the mystery box potential. I also picked up darnold to start and just stash fields until there’s some life and the points come In

Being in a SF league, and a 1 QB league where I waited longer than anyone to pick up a QB, I picked up Fields off the wire before week one in each.

ATM he hasn't put up even replacement level value yet. He's been QB 19 & 24 in the 1 QB league and he's QB 26 in my SF league.

I think he is absolutely a hold but, he should only be starting if your lineup is incredibly strong and you're looking to be a top scorer (some leagues have a payout for that) or if your lineup is incredibly weak and you need a home run.

For the most part, I expect his early run in Pittsburgh to be incredibly conservative and, if he wants to hold onto the starting QB gig he will continue to play within the confines of the offense and be a mediocre fantasy producer.

Think I'm going to start Anthony Richardson and Derek Carr over Fields this week with J Love on my IR. Fields is being held back it seems.

Assuming Herbert plays, the Chargers have a good offense. This will be a test for the Steelers and they’ll likely need more than 20 to win. This is the game where we likely see what Fields has. Unfortunately he has very little help with the rest of that offense. It could be a big rushing game for him.

Is this

good enough to get the FIelds haters to back off and for Fields to keep the starting job this year?

There's no way you can turn to Russ. Fields isn't doing anything extraordinary, but he's not hurting you, and he's made some nice plays. I'll be surprised if Fields doesn't have a semi-long leash as the starter moving forward

Tony Romo during today's game was praising Justin Fields. About his progressions, showed a few plays were he moved his feet and eyes through progressions. Justin is getting rid of the ball faster as well. Justin made Calvin Austin III fantasy relevant depending on who you talk to for today or future games.

Justin's last 6 games as a Bear they were 4-2 loses. I didn't see the games but I'm curious as to someone's objective viewpoint who remembers those last 6 games.

If you scroll back in this topic there’s a lot of folks giving breakdowns of those games and his stretch run.

Much of it was on the defense, and he played hurt for a lot of the year. Gutty performances wasted.

Fields was better statistically last year than he was previously. Incremental improvements, but improvements nonetheless.

I can't imagine he isn't the starter going forward, regardless of Wilson's health.

He's playing very well, within the confines of the offense, limiting mistakes and bringing a level of athleticism that few QBs can boast.

And, most importantly he's winning.

Its still mind blowing to me how little interest there was in him this offseason.

There was a contingent of Bears fans, who were ok with keeping Fields, and trading Caleb for a Bryce Young (but likely even bigger) haul.

His 1 pick was on a tipped pass. That wasn’t on Fields.
I like Fields a lot, but that pick was his fault. It was the only bad pass/decision of the day for him. It wasn't tipped at the LOS, it was deflected by the defender right near the WR. It wasn't a great play by the defender, either. Justin shouldn't have thrown the ball there because the WR was covered. Overall a good performance from Justin, but that was on him.

I've been a huge supporter since he was drafted. Bears did not deserve Fields. Glad he landed in a much better place. Really wanted the Raiders to make a play for him, but instead they got Getsy'd. So much dumb in this league!

As a Bears fan, I'm glad to see Justin get the heck out of this suck hole of a Franchise. He's a good kid. Hopefully the Steelers lock him down for at least a medium term contract.

REALLY impressive so far(real world). Completing 73% of his passes. Only 1 interception through 3 games.
The 1st games it felt like they wanted more of a game manager role out of him, yesterday they let him actually throw it.

It feels like they've asked/coached him to tone down the running. I agree with others, he'll get more leash and more opportunities as the season moves forward.

Strange roller coaster ride with Fields. It doesn’t take much for the Shark Pool to swing in one direction or the other.

What are dynasty owners doing in superflex leagues? I picked him up for 2nd's in a few leagues and am lost. Part of me wants to sell into the renewed hype. The other part wants to believe in Fields as a long-term option.

I own him in 2 SF leagues, a 12-team, and a 16 team. In my other 16 team league I would have loved to have dealt for him, but they're in rebuild mode and the buy-low window has clearly closed. And tbh, from negotiating with the dude, there never really was a true buy-low. I did manage to turn that convo into sending them a couple of 2026 1sts for Jacobs+Diggs, and that's worked out very well, but I wish I coulda brought Fields back in that transaction.

At this point, for the Steelers as an organization, it's time to see 17 games from Fields to see what they really got. I think it's time to get something in return for Russ. Anything. Maybe hot dog buns for 2 home games. Broncos are paying all but 1.2 million of his contract this year. Someone will give something. Imo
Fins would probably be the only ones desperate enough to offer anything.

Stillers would be smart to take anything 5th rd or better. They signed him for free and paid him peanuts to light a pilot light under their new franchise QB. A mid-rounder would be incredibly sweet icing on some seriously good business.
