I may need to cut back a bit on Steeler Sundays. My recollection is, especially his deep ball, he has zero touch. No air under the ball, and everything on a rope.
He's 17th in 20+ yard passes. That's better than I thought. How many were crosser were crossers where there was either a missed tackle or the WR outran coverage though?

As a Fields owner I hope you are right but this does not seem like a Tomlin move to meI've said it before but I think it is convenient that Wilson is suddenly healthy before the Jets game. I do believe he was promised the starter role when he was signed/traded so now Tomlin is making good on that promise. But this is not an easy situation for Wilson. If they win then that is great for the team and Wilson keeps the job, for now.That doesn’t mean I agree that he’s not a good RL QB.You must not have watched the Raider game, he missed wide open receivers and he had a INT at the goal line saved because a dumb DL hit him late. The INT had long been thrown and the roughing the passer call saved that and later led to a rushing TD for him. He was also saved by more stupid defensive flags that kept the drives alive that probably don't happen against teams not named the Raiders
I think Fields is doing an admirable job in a difficult situation.
I also believe Wilson is going to get sacked 4+ times against the Jets, and likely see the bench agains after this start.
If they lose and Wilson doesn't play well they can go back to Fields for an easier match-up next week.

I just know I’ve seen him throw some absolutely beautiful deep balls, on the run, that were dropped.
He’s capable of it. Certainly more than Russ, who woulda been sacked on several of those scrambles.

It seems to be between the ears with Fields. He was extremely accurate in college and has shown hit and miss accuracy in the NFL. Last week he missed a lot of open easy throws and then the interception that was negated with a penalty is what led Tomlin to this decision IMO. I still think Fields will emerge as the Steeler QB sometime this year.

Tomlinson is the coach and he can bench Fields if he chooses but I don’t think he will stay benched long. Fields is surrounded by pretty mediocre talent in Pittsburgh and he is the only real plus athlete out there. I have a feeling we are about to be reminded how bad Russell Wilson is now as a pro. Soon, Wilson can go back to his primary gig making commercials for Subway.

Wilson has also won the Super Bowl with a team that had a really great defense.
I don’t know if he has anything left. Nobody does really. If he’s not better than Fields they can reverse course. I would be surprised though if Wilson can’t average more than 184 yards passing. They were over 200 a game with awful QB play in 2023.
We all realize the Steelers are 4-2 right now, but if we look at it objectively without regard for fantasy football we wouldn’t say those wins are because Justin has played great. Hell, he himself just admitted it yesterday.

ok fine I was wrong it's gonna be Wilson. For the sake of some of my best ball team here is hoping they do some dual QB formations and Fields takes one to the house. He's capable.
didn't bother to pick up Wilson anywhere so will be pivoting to Cousins and Herbert in a couple FPCs. Fields was my backup to Stroud and Lamar in a couple of them so no biggie.
In a couple SuperFlex spots I'm fairly tight and will be going with Colby Parkinson vs Palmer vs whatever I can scrape off the wire or through trade. Gross. In the other it's a choice of Rachaad White on MNF if he plays or Palmer or Gabe or the WW/trade. Even Fields might not be the worst play honestly.

I don’t know who the answer is. I’m not an NFL coach. I’m sorry asking to take a rational approach is weird. If Russ comes out and has a bad game next week does that make everybody who is in the Fields camp right? No. It’s simply too early. That’s all I’m saying. But yes I personally would prefer Fields to be on the field, even if he’s not the better option, simply because I have him on my team.

I've said it before and will say it again. Fields isn't as bad as some want to make it out to be. I think the PIT system with Tomlin as coach is good for Fields. Now with Russ back there is less pressure for him and he can keep learning and growing. He did lead PIT to a 4-2 record and one of those Ls was almost a comeback victory due to Fields himself.

Every team had a chance to get him on their roster, practically for free. They chose not to.
I've thought for about 2 years now that fantasy football players seriously overrated Fields talent as a real NFL QB so I get it around here. What surprised me in the last week or so was this all the talking heads saying how bad a mistake Tomlin was making, but I guess that's as much as people hating on Wilson.
He can do some things for sure. Valuable backup, extremely likeable and as a Steelers fan very happy to have him relatively cheaply. But he had a cold market this off-season. NFL teams knew, they were not wrong. I've never seen the progress so many people cite. My biggest thing I've been down on him is that I just think he throws the timing off an offense, does not allow it to get into rhythm. I noticed this last year with Bagent took over a few games. Not here to get into an argument over Bagent being better then Fields but I thought the timing and pace on the offense improved for the Bears when he was out.
When you got a guy like Fields as your QB your offense can make some plays but I don't think a team with him as the QB is one that can have consistency, not sustained success. He's going to be a career backup.

Wilson didn't look great in that first half and some (at least 5?) of his completions seemed like total fluke plays. Jump balls or tips that ended in his receiver's hands just as easily could have been INT's. As much as there are some "I told you so's" going around I wouldn't be surprised if Fields got another shot this year.

Sort of, it was a trade. Some teams might not think it was "free", especially a conditional pick. I do know what you are saying but we don't know how the discussions and negotiations went with teams and if Fields had any say in it.
I still think long term Fields (if he will end up a starter) is a good fit in PIT. No doubt he has work to do but he is in a good place that will give him support.

I believe it will be proven out that some chose poorly.
I currently have no shares of Fields, but I will try to, across several National High Stakes entries, if I have the room to hold him, on rosters in Leagues where he was dropped during waivers last week.
I very strongly feel he will be under center again for the Steelers at some point later this Season, and there are upcoming matchups where his upside ceiling is tantalizing to consider.

In dynasty? Absolutely. Be silly to move off him now. If the Steelers don’t sign him (which I still think they might do) someone else surely will. He’ll be starting somewhere next year.
I remember the Eagles were pursuing Justin Fields as a backup, but the asking price was too steep. Initially, Ryan Poles aimed to maximize draft capital for Fields, though I’m not sure what the exact offer was. The Eagles backed off because of the high cost. Then, Russell Wilson signed with the Steelers, causing Kenny Pickett to demand a trade. Fortunately, the Eagles were interested in Kenny. With the Eagles out, Poles reportedly did a solid by trading Fields to the Steelers for a conditional draft pick. The Raiders were also in the mix.
Depending on how the season unfolds, if Russell starts most of the games, I could see Justin signing with another team where he’d be the starter. The Steelers would then be paying big bucks for an aging QB in Russell. I envisioned some creative "Go-Go Gadget" Justin Fields plays, where he lined up in the backfield with Russell. Whatever you think, using Justin as a gadget player in the offense could be highly beneficial.
