QB Kyler Murray, ARZ (2 Viewers)

Kyler Murray completed 27-of-36 passes for 406 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, tacking on eight carries for 29 yards and a rushing score in Arizona's 33-26 Week 15 win over the Eagles.

The Eagles were short a handful of corners against Murray but he still made his job look easy, arguably having the most success of his career when throwing outside the pocket and finishing with a career-high 406 yards passing. Arizona turned the ball over twice inside the 10-yard line, fumbling on the opening possession and later tossing an interception on a miscommunication with DeAndre Hopkins (9/169/1) in the end zone, but Murray always managed to respond in averaging 11.3 yards per attempt to help the Cardinals stack 526 total yards of offense, already the third time the franchise has eclipsed 500 yards during the Kliff Kingsbury era. Murray also joined Cam Newton (2015) as the only players in league history with at least 25 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing scores in a single season. The Cardinals stayed relevant as the No. 7 seed in the NFC with this win and will attempt to tighten its grasp on a Wild Card berth in Week 16 against the 49ers.

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he's "hopeful" Kyler Murray can play in Week 17 against the Rams.

The Cardinals still control its own destiny against Los Angeles, basically guaranteeing Murray takes the field come hell or high water. For what it's worth, Kingsbury was in a similar situation last year and still threw an injured Murray to the wolves for the team's meaningless regular season finale against the Rams. Former CFL signal-caller Chris Streveler would get the nod if Murray is surprisingly ruled out.

Kyler Murray (leg) is expected to practice Wednesday.

It's a good sign after Murray went down late in Week 16. Murray's leg injury isn't expected to keep him out of a game Arizona needs to make the playoffs. Former CFLer Chris Streveler is Murray's backup.

Kyler Murray completed 8-of-11 passes for 87 yards in the Cardinals' 18-7, Week 17 loss to the Rams.

Murray entered the week with a leg injury but made the start in the do-or-die NFC West tilt. Unfortunately, Rams DL Morgan Fox fell on Murray's ankle in the first quarter, and Murray had to miss two-plus quarters of action before returning in the fourth frame with the Cardinals drowning with backup Chris Streveler. Murray wasn't able to pull out the heroics, and he wraps up his sophomore season going 375-of-558 (67.2%) for 3,971 yards (7.1 YPA) and a 26:12 TD:INT mark. He tossed the same amount of picks as he did as a rookie but upped his touchdown total by six. As a rusher, Murray added 133-819-11, blowing his 2019 rushing line of 93-544-4 out of the water. It was what made Murray fantasy's QB1 overall after Week 16. (Most fantasy players don't count Week 17.) Murray will go into next summer as a top-three fantasy quarterback.

According to AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban, Kyler Murray "continues to talk about playing baseball at some point." 

In Urban's words, Murray "knows he can't, he acknowledges the Cardinals certainly aren't thinking that way, but he says with a smile — he doesn't want to close the door." Murray himself acknowledged the dream isn't fully dead. "I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just talking," Murray said Thursday. This certainly doesn't appear to be anything on the immediate horizon, but it's worth remembering Murray was no ordinary baseball prospect. He was the No. 9 overall pick of the 2018 draft. That itch will probably never fully go away. It's also extremely unlikely to be scratched. Murray is already up in years for someone with zero minor league at-bats, and the demands of being a franchise quarterback are simply too great.

Kyler Murray wants to run less in 2021. 

"Honestly, the way I see it is, my legs should be a luxury," Murray said. "And it kind of wasn't like that last year. It was me having to run for us in a sense. Once my shoulder was banged up and I wasn't trying to put myself out there and take those hits, we hit a lull. Honestly, I think it was a lesson for us. We can't be one-dimensional. We've got be better in all aspects of the game." Murray is correct that the Cardinals' offense went into a tailspin following his injury issues. It is more debatable if his legs can become a luxury. They might have to remain a necessity considering the way they unlocked Kliff Kingsbury's attack last season. Fantasy managers shouldn't worry about it too much. Especially as he remains in his early 20s, Murray essentially has no choice but to keep running as he hunts for big plays and tries to keep defenses off-balance.

FBG has Kyler ranked as their #1 QB…do people agree??

I see him going as the 3rd QB taken in most mock drafts behind Mahomes & Allen.  

 
Kyler Murray completed 21-of-32 passes for 289 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the Cardinals' 38-13, Week 1 win over the Titans, adding five rushes for 20 additional yards and a touchdown. 

As Ryan Tannehill took sacks and turned the ball over, Murray put it in the end zone one time after another, becoming just the sixth player in NFL history to notch at least four passing touchdowns and a ground score in Week 1. Like Tannehill, Murray's protection was far from spotless, but unlike Tannehill, Murray kept Houdini-ing out of it for big plays with his legs and bigger throws. His passing scores went for five, 17, 26 and 11 yards, with the first two finding DeAndre Hopkins and the second two ending up in the hands of forgotten fourth-year pro Christian Kirk. Murray's INT was one of his only poor decisions. Murray had plenty of time in the pocket before simply forcing a ball to Demetrius Harris. Murray now heads home for his Week 2 home debut against the Vikings.

It was a rollercoaster performance with a handful of 'wow' plays for Murray, one of the highs being his patented spin move away from two defenders before finding Rondale Moore (7/114/1) for a wide-open 77-yard score downfield. The lows include two interceptions on poor decision-making, in particular eyeing LB Nick Vigil for a 39-yard pick-six on the second play of the third quarter. It was also the second straight game with at least four touchdowns for Murray, who has scorched his favorable opening matchups for 33 fantasy points in back-to-back weeks. He'll again be ranked as the overall QB1 in next week's soft matchup against Jacksonville.

Kyler Murray completed 24-of-32 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals' 37-20, Week 4 win over the Rams, adding six carries for 39 additional yards. 

Murray's quietest box score of the season was the first time he was held out of the end zone on the ground in 2021, but he was still tormenting the Rams with his legs by getting outside the pocket and extending plays. Murray's passing scores were a 41-yard strike to A.J. Green where AJG just beat the defense down the field and a 14-yarder to emerging TE2 consideration Maxx Williams. Murray has played at an MVP level as the Cards have raced to a 4-0 record despite some sloppy mistakes. They are dangerous enough on offense right now to overcome penalties and time management miscues. The reeling 49ers are a wild card Week 5 matchup.

Kyler Murray completed 22-of-33 passes for 274 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the Cardinals' 24-21, Week 8 loss to the Packers, adding six carries for 21 additional yards. 

Murray's first scoreless start of the season was also the Cardinals' first loss. It didn't have to be that way, as the Cards were driving for the game-winning score with 0:15 remaining from the Packers' five-yard line. That is when Murray targeted A.J. Green in the end zone and the veteran wideout just kept blocking. The ball hit off Green, and Rasul Douglas hauled it in for a game-ending interception. Already limping after getting his foot tangled up a few moments earlier, Murray then remained down for several moments before walking gingerly to the sideline. Whatever he is dealing with, he has 10 days to get healthy for Week 9 vs. the 49ers. The same is true for DeAndre Hopkins, who was in and out of the game all evening as he battled hamstring tightness. Murray has plateaued in fantasy after a hot start, though he is still providing QB1 returns nearly every week, and will surely bounce back to elite status sooner rather than later.

I love Kyler, but this is one of the main reasons I was swayed to move him in dynasty. That, and the guy offered me a deal I simply couldn’t refuse as a rebuilding team. But the emergence of James Conner in the red zone is really hurting Kyler’s ceiling. That, and he’s just not running much at all anymore period.  Last year he was routinely rushing for 40+ yards every week and giving you a 50/50 shot at a rushing TD.

Just a guy? He’s still the number 2 scoring QB in my league. Would have to calculate PPG to see where he truly stands due tonsome

Without rushing yds and rushing TDs (especially scoring where rushing TDs are more pts than passing), he falls out of that Tier 1 IMO. And for FF purposes, that's more/less JAG.

Who are those tier 1 guys in your league scoring?

I’ll agree he’s underperforming a little after a REALLY hot start. But I still cannot get behind calling a guy having an MVP level season JAG.

Big floor (except last night we saw how low the floor can go) and huge upside every week.

Since he stopped running a month ago, he's ranked 19th on PPG basis among QBs in our league.

Reading the tea leaves... I don't think I can start him this week (even if he does play). He looked terrible against SF a few weeks ago, may/may not have D-Hop, and now a bad wheel.

Numbers don't lie... Murray is in the "Streaming QB" category until he starts running around like crazy again.

 
Speaking Friday, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said the Cardinals need to consider the "big picture" with QB Kyler Murray.

Keim also said the Cardinals need to "be smart" with Murray. This doesn't mean he won't play in Week 9, but it makes sense that the 7-1 Cardinals could be cautious with their star quarterback's ankle injury. A lingering ailment would significantly tarnish their hopes of a Super Bowl run. Murray's status needs to be monitored ahead of Arizona's matchup against the 49ers on Sunday.

I don't like the sound of this.  It's almost as if they are preparing us for full games without Murray, or at least large chunks of games.  At 7-1, they could easily make the playoffs with just a few more wins.

Assuming he is limited and misses more than 1 week... Who would be a waiver wire type QB to pick up rest of year?  Tyrod Taylor, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, Bridgewater are the type of QB's left...

For this week in my 10-teamer, here are all the available options:

1pm games
Daniel Jones (NYG) vs LV - he is the highest scoring QB on waivers in my league
Sam Darnold or P.J. Walker (CAR) vs NE - most current info shows Darnold as questionable
Teddy Bridgewater (DEN) at DAL - may have to play aggressive this week to stay in the game
Mac Jones (NE) at CAR - below 18 fantasy points in 7 of 8 games thus far
Trevor Lawrence (JAC) vs BUF - no health issues, but he may have some after this game
Baker Mayfield (CLE) at CIN - perhaps the departure of OBJ will benefit him?  We'll see
Tyrod Taylor (HOU) at MIA - Mills had 2 usable games, but Tyrod is back and gets the nod
Trevor Siemian (NO) vs ATL - Taysom is on waiver wire too, but sounds like Trevor will start
Jacoby Brissett (MIA) vs HOU - Tua's finger has him questionable, also has braised ribs (pun)

4pm games
Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) vs ARI - how long is Jimmy's leash with Trey Lance waiting?

Looks like alot of options, but the field narrows big time if Kyler isn't listed as out until after the 1pm games start.  If that happens, I will quickly race to the waiver wire and snag Jordan Love.  Luckily, the other 9 teams in my league all have decent options, and with the short benches, I seriously doubt anyone will be thinking of blocking me.

Got to admit this interests me.  I have to make a flex call and one of my choices is James Conner.  IMO if Murray is a throw only guy they might run more AND it assures me that one of the RBs will get any red zone running toughes NOT Murray. 

Still, Conner, Higgins, K Toney, E Sanders, Montgomery.  Can't decide.

Yes, I currently have only Murray on my roster, and this IS for week 9 only.  If it's a multi-week thing with Murray, I will play matchups.  I am only leery of Murray for weeks 9, 10, and 11.  Anyway, for this week:

Jimmy Garoppolo - would be too nervous to start Jimmy against an Arizona D that ranks behind only Buffalo in points given up to opposing QB's in my league (could be behind Denver also, depending on your league scoring).  Either Jimmy will suck for 4 quarters, or he will suck for less than 4 quarters and get yanked.

Colt McCoy - in the last 10 years, Colt has 2 wins and 7 losses.  If Colt did get the start, he would be told to hand off 100 times.  I would still start him over Jimmy though, based on fantasy points allowed vs QB's.

Ben Roethlisberger - CHI is middle of the road vs QB's, but Big Ben has been end of the road so far.

Justin Fields - PIT is above average vs QB's, and Fields ain't fooling anyone through the air.  He almost threw for 2 TD's in a game, but didn't.  He also almost threw for 210 yards, but didn't.

That just leaves Jordan Love.  Sounds like he will have a healthy WR corps, and be facing one of the leagues worst vs QB's.  I think he has the highest ceiling, and if he doesn't throw a handful of INT's, perhaps he can throw for a few and do some things with his legs.

I think Jordan Love is a decent one-Week filler here.  I wish I was as fortunate.  Dynasty league, and my pathetic backups behind Murray are Jared Goff (bye) and Zach Wilson (inj). 

My options:

Ben Roethlisberger:  🤑 Meh. He has a very low ceiling.

Jimmy Garoppolo: 🤑 Also meh. Arizona D is very good.

Trevor Semien:  🤑 Meh yet again. I am not too excited about the Saints offense, aside from Kamara, plus Hill could factor in.

Coly McCoy:  🤑 You get the theme. Green out, Hopkins questionable.  I don't trust McCoy to put up many fantasy points  

Sadly neither Love nor Tyrod is available.

 
I was proactive and grabbed Jordan Love for this week.  At this point, even if Murray suits up, I can't trust him to play.  What sucks is it basically forced me to drop my 2nd TE and hope that Kittle can stay upright this week (and get some looks).

And to @Jamesinaz, yes, I would bump Edmonds and Conner.
