QB Mac Jones, SF (11 Viewers)

What about Cam’s 2-5 for 10 yds and 1 INT was impressive?

edit to add:  when you say Cam “marched down to the 23 on his first drive”…..the team started at the 46 yard line on that drive.  He was 1-3 for 6 yards on that drive.  Pretty good stuff.
Apparently BB agreed.
bye Cam. Wouldn’t be shocked if another team picks him up but his career is basically over.

IMO, Cam could continue his career if he wanted to be a backup. I'm guessing NE presented that as an option and he said no. He would be a fit as a backup on an offense with a mobile QB, but he would have to be "not be the guy," which I doubt he would be happy with.

Cam can try to be RG3

He could back up ty Taylor 🤔

who is the backup in Arizona?

I'm done arguing.  BB will make the right call.

Then I assume you are satisfied?  BB doesn't make bad calls when it comes to QBs, right?

Just teasing a bit, sorry, don't mean to be that guy.

In all seriousness, how far do we bump up Mac Jones now? It's not a high volume passing game, but in SuperFlex he jumps a lot imo, and in redraft/keeper he becomes a decent late round flyer.

So Mac 'n Cheese is the starter....  Chips A-Hoyer is the only backup?

ETA:  that's right, there's Stid-the-kid.  Isn't he on pup right now?

Could this be Cam Newton's decision?
Yes. There are so many threads I can't keep up and don't remember what I posted where. There was talk when Cam signed in March that the contract terms were such that it didn't cost much for the NE to release him and there was likely discussion of Cam having the option of being released if he was not going to be the starter.

Week 1, the 2 former Alabama QBs face each other against 2 tough defenses. It  would be be compelling and could be telling. IIRC, Harlan will be calling the game. Can't wait.

Actually, the entire AFC East QBs will be very interesting to follow.
I thought it was possible, but not likely. Jones will do ok, if he has time. Tua gets a break with Gilmore out.

Draft Dominator just escalated Mac Jones from the QB29-32 range to QB5 overall!  I understand he gets a huge boost from winning the starting job outright, but can someone explain to me that rationale for making this unproven rookie QB5 overall, ahead of guys like R. Wilson, Rodgers, Dak, Brady, Herbert?  I could see somewhere around QB13 at best, in the tier with Tannehill, Hurts, Burrow, but#5 makes no sense to me.  I'm in a 2QB league that drafts tomorrow, so some insight here would be very helpful.

I figured out that the problem is with Bloom's rankings.  Somehow DD shows that he's got Mac projected for 623 points!  His QB2 is Murray at 383 points.  I hope they realize that lots of drafts are happening and so get this fixed soon.

I've read several expert opinions that Cam's release means Damien Harris will get a boost because he'll see several more goal line carries. But I'm not sure you can bank on this. Rhamondre Stevenson is a bigger back, and it's conceivable that the Pats relegate the goal line duties to him. Thoughts?

Bloom's ratings are always off, I find it's best to always exclude his.  Even his "correctly entered" projections are often silly, such as his projection for Pitts.

Something is messed up on mine too, just going to standard top 300 rankings on the site, it has murray ranked as the #1 QB and still has Mac around QB 31 for me.

Let’s see what a real QB can do running this offense. By a real QB, I mean someone that can throw for better than 2/5 for 10 yards and an INT.
Not that any preseason game has much analytical value and there’s really no point in discussing it. But Newton threw a very catchable ball and Meyers let the defender snatch it out of his hands. Then Cam would have been at 3/5 for 50 yards with the drive continuing. I get that you were not a fan of Newton, but to make it out like his stat line from the other night was bad hung on that one play. His QB rating would have gone from 8 to 94 with that completion.

Should not have thrown that pass. Period.

Evidently the NE Patriots coaching staff agrees as the guy was cut. For his terrible play on the field.

Very likely they use him much like they did Blount a few years back. He's the hammer at the goal line. Harris might get a few but I think Stevenson is the main GL back.

I'd also keep an eye on JJ Taylor. Quick, good hands. Probably more of a special teamer for the time being but he could replace White at some point.

I own Rhamondre Stevenson in one league and Harris in another. My gut tells me Stevenson might be the better dynasty RB.

Both statements can be true. It's possible Stevenson is the preferred GL back but no Newton opens up more opportunities and Harris should theoretically get some benefit.

I don't think anyone could say with any certainty who will be the GL back though - size isn't always the sole determining factor. Aaron Jones is one of the better GL backs in the league and he's average size.

Absolutely. I think the notion that Cam's release means more goal line touches for the RB seems likely. I just think that Harris owners are using wishful thinking assuming that Harris will corner the market on those touches.

I don't have Harris on any of my teams. I do have Stevens on one. I can honestly say I have no idea who the GL back will be.

Everyone still on the Pats is a winner. The 2 main RBs (even moreso with Sony gone), plus the receivers should get a bump.  But I'm sure that this will anger BB to the point where he will throw a monkey wrench into the gears just to anger us FF players.

The next three weeks will be huge. We will struggle early. After that watch lights out. Just my humble option.
Next FOUR weeks?  Miami, NYJ, Saints, Bucs.

Likely 2-2.  1-3 and 3-1 are possible.  0-4 and 4-0 are improbable.  Whatever happens, September is pre-season.

It was inevitable. The Brady comparisons have started. Charlie Weiss said today that Jones is further along at this point than Brady was. Doesn’t mean he will turn into Brady, but Mac’s knowledge and understanding is greater than Brady after  his first training camp. Making reads and  making adjustments at the LOS.
