QB Marcus Mariota, WAS (2 Viewers)

The Athletic's Bo Wulf writes Marcus Mariota "is probably the best bet" to be Philadelphia's No. 2 quarterback.

"If the goal is to find a No. 2 quarterback who would allow the quarterback-inclusive run game to continue being a big part of the offense," Wulf writes before landing on Mariota. Mariota was also a Titan when quarterbacks coach Alex Tanney was still in the league as Mariota's teammate. It's a plausible move that makes sense on its face as the Eagles will need a new No. 2 to replace impending free agent Gardner Minshew.

Eagles signed QB Marcus Mariota to a one-year, $5 million contract.

The deal is worth up to $8 million with incentives. Mariota has strong ties to Philly — Eagles TE coach Jason Michael was Mariota's offensive coordinator in Tennessee and QB coach Alex Tanney is a former teammate. Mariota replaces Gardner Minshew as the backup to Jalen Hurts after starting 13 games for Atlanta. Adding Mariota ensures the Eagles will have one of the better backup situations in the league behind Hurts, who missed two games last year.

NFL Network’s Eric Edholm believes Marcus Mariota might not make the Eagles’ 53-player roster.
Rookie QB Tanner McKee has made a compelling case to be Jalen Hurts’ backup this preseason, and his solid play has been noticed by Eagles coaches, including Nick Sirianni. Mariota, meanwhile, has continued his disastrous play from last season in Atlanta. It’s difficult to imagine the Eagles would be comfortable starting the fading veteran if Hurts were to miss time again in 2023. It’s a situation to monitor for fantasy managers in deep superflex formats.

Numbers last year

34 of 44 passes for 364 yards and 4 TDs,
Passer Rating was 131.3
QBR was 86.3 QBR

Seems like a solid fantasy pickup if you had a starter go down already

Just dropped G. Smith for him in a super flex league.

He's going to run as well. Decent chance at a rushing TD.

He also was very good for Ertz and Terry last year in the 2 games he started. And of course now has Deebo too. I'll be disappointed if the offense doesn't put up 3-4 TDs.

Marcus Mariota completed 15-of-21 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown and ran 6 times for 40 yards and another touchdown in the Commanders’ 41-24, Week 3 win over the Raiders.

Mariota did everything he needed to in this one. The veteran quarterback took advantage of a short field on the opening drive of the game by capping it with a two-yard score on the ground, and connected with Luke McCaffrey on a 43-yard touchdown in the final minutes of regulation. The Raiders didn’t offer much resistance in this one, as evidenced by Mariota’s 21 pass attempts compared to the Commanders’ 32 combined rush attempts. His longest throw on the day came on a 56-yard pass to Terry McLaurin, that was nearly (and probably should have been) a touchdown, but it was a solid day for Mariota in his “revenge game” against his former team. Whether or not he draws another start in Week 4 against the Falcons will hinge on the health of Jayden Daniels’ knee, but Mariota would have some fantasy viability in 2QB/superflex leagues if active.

I think I'm going to roll him out this weekend over Dak. Falcons D is really hit or miss and his rushing upside is good.
Yeah I am trying to decide between MM and Stafford. If Adams is out I am shockingly enough leaning Mariota.

He looked very solid last weekend aside from that carless fumble.

I am hoping to roll him out in guillotine, but have to win a bid first

I was intrigued for a 12 team league but I have Purdy and don't like Terry being out and the overall redskins scene right now with Bill being dinged. Atlanta should be fired up off a shutout.

I'd feel a lot better about MM starting if Terry was playing. Oh well, taking my chances with him over STafford who may be down Adams.

Starting him as my QB2 in a superflex league over CJ Stroud.

Figure he could run for about 50. Maybe more if "Bill" is out. And if that's the case, I may have a good chance at a TD.

ATL D may be frauds. Thought they were improved, but then gave up 30 to Carolina.

Also, this is a "revenge" game against his former team.

As a longtime Washington fan I hope to hell Daniels doesn't get hurt badly, I really do.
But if he does I think the offense would be solid with Mariota for the year. He's been solid since being here, and at the end of last season he said he didn't want to look for a starting opportunity elsewhere because he loved who he's playing with. I think he'll be solid, not a weak link, just not nearly as exciting and productive as Daniels can be.

Didn't watch yet.
Last week he looked pretty good.
The stats read like he was an older "welp I can still lead ya" QB and not much more.
