I agree, I think the dynamic has changed. The Lions are a great defense to own, Abdullah is running the ball, the playcalling is balanced....

All the "experts" seem to be really high on Stafford this week, I feel like I'm missing something here.

I mean I don't doubt that Stafford can put up numbers, but with their defense playing well he hasn't needed to yet this year, so I'm failing to see why this week will be different against a decent defense.

Help me understand sharks.

This consensus board has him at 6, which I agree is too high. You and SID2006 make good points about the defense & running game. The best QBs in fantasy usually have a little less of that.

What's good for the team is not always good for your QB when it comes to stats.

What are people thinking about Stafford for the rest of the season? Thus far he’s put up solid but not spectacular numbers.

To me he really doesn’t have great weapons, BUT to me, one advantage he seems to have over guys in the same tier is his playoff schedule @TB, Chicago, Cinci at home seems very promising. Is he a good buy low pick up with the playoffs in mind?

No. Not enough playmakers & conservative offensive philosophy. Plus he’s getting the hell beat out of him every week - 17 sacks the last three weeks. When they come off the bye Tate will be out for several weeks.

OTOH, great schedule from Week 10 on. You could [be] on to something, good by low opportunity. The O-line is getting a huge upgrade when Decker returns in a few weeks.

But he’s never going back to being a volume QB who throws for 5K & 41 TDs with the current personnel & coaching staff.

Great insight. Thanks for the help. I am concerned about his health going forward, but his playoff schedule is great.

Will have to monitor the practice reports quite a bit this week. I think Stafford is dealing with a pretty significant injury. Reading between the lines I think he may have a high ankle sprain. He is obviously tough but playing through that against the Baltimore Defense might not be pretty.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21591023/detroit-lions-quarterback-matthew-stafford-said-ankle-feeling-better

Stafford said he stayed in Michigan over the weekend to get treatment on the ankle and that "it's getting better." He said he had X-rays done on the ankle, but wouldn't reveal details of what the tests showed.

"I'll start to feel better, hopefully, as the week progresses and we'll see from there," Stafford said.

Stafford has not missed a game since the 2011 season and has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,010 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2017.

When asked about Stafford's ankle earlier Monday, Lions coach Jim Caldwell referred to the injury report, which will not be released until Wednesday.

Dr. Bramel says low ankle sprain.

We'll see but Stafford didn't sound like an overly optmistic guy in that article. If it was a low ankle sprain wouldn't he just say it was nothing and express more confidence?
Stafford faces the media every Tuesday. More than any other player, he knows better than to indicate anything substantive about an injury. The Lions standard answer to any injury Q is “check the report.”

I would not read anything to what he said. He’s just up there doing his job, which is to [be] affable & say nothing of significance.

I"ve ridden Stafford all year long.  Basically, this week is a playoff game for me.  I can still get into my playoffs if I lose, but I'll need help. Quite a bit actually.  I traded for Newton a few weeks ago as a backup during bye week scramble and was seriously considering starting him this week over Stafford.  I kept Stafford from last year and lots of people laughed at me.  He's been a solid fantasy play all year long so I'm sticking with what got me here and keeping Cam on the bench.  Let's go Stafford!!

PS- all you Newton owners owe me big time as I all but guaranteed he has a huge game this week since I'm sitting him.

Rankings are nothing more than an opinion but this week FBGs and Harris Podcast Have Newton in a QB2-QB7 range while Stafford is QB13-QB17. This is a tough spot for Matthew with Swanson out, Lang banged up, Tate’s production has dropped, and the D cannot stop the run. Newton is also on the road & Olsen looks like a GTD.

Coach Jim Caldwell said Matthew Stafford (hand) is "progressing well" and "we'll see" if he's able to play Week 14 against the Bucs.

Stafford ramped up his practice level Thursday, and it would be a real shock if he wasn't out there. Stafford is one of the toughest dudes in the game; it would take a lot to keep him off the field. If he starts, Stafford will be a QB1, and both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones will be high-end WR1/2 plays.
He's gotta be starting.  Probably firing him up with Tate for a win and in scenario.  Don't let me down Matthew!

Will most likely be starting him if he’s active but not expecting much.
Every tweet I saw from reporters that watched him practice today noted how well he looked on short and deep passes. He's one tough dude and you just hope he doesn't take shots on the injured hand during the game. Caldwell is non-commital, but you can't tell me everyone in the locker room doesn't know he will be under center this week.

For those of us who don't follow the local beat reporters, Keep us updated please

Oh he is a tough dude, no doubt about that. Just hope he can get a good handle on the ball. I know he’ll be playing just a matter of grip strength and the chance of reinjury is what worries me most.

Stafford played pretty badly down the stretch of last year (final 4 games and the playoff) with an injured finger (ligament tear.)

BEFORE: 8-4 through Week 13, 7 comeback wins, 12-Game Totals: 3,224 Yards, 21 TDs, 5 INTs, 67.5 Comp. Percentage, 101.5 QB Rating

AFTER: 1-3, 1 comeback win, 3 straight losses to finish, first round playoff exit, Weeks 14-17 totals: 4-Game Totals: 1,103 Yards, 3 TDs, 5 INTs, 60.4 Comp. Percentage, 74 QB Rating

RT Rick Wagner is out for Week 14, first game he has missed. Corey Robinson is the backup RT but they might roll with Brian Mahalik, who did ok the last couple starts at LT before Decker cane back. LG Lang & C Swanson are both Q - each has missed two games this year & have struggled to stay healthy.

completely overrated ..Stafford is the never has been that never will be. might be time for Detroit to think about maybe moving away from Stafford and draft themselves another QB next year and see how it goes.if this keeps up they'll have a very high pick anyways.so why not!

lol.

Yes, the only lions player on offense to make the nfl's top 100 list is the problem. Those other 52 guys on the team mean absolutely nothing, it's all about that one dude. Right?

what is matt Stafford signature win? the one over Cleveland where he got hurt then came back in to win the game??

What are the other 52 guys signature wins? Or is there only one player on each team?
I agree he isn't the "problem" but at some point over 10 years, and elite QB has to be ……..ya know...….ELITE......

the franchise is just  cursed.....sigh......lions and chargers...….this is my lot in life...….

I can't argue with that last part. My point is instead of appointing one whipping boy maybe we should ask where is the talent on this team? 2 straight years with only one top 100 player is not a team ready to do much of anything. Including winning a playoff game.

right or wrong QB/coach get much of the credit/blame for franchise success.....for Christ sakes he had Calvin freaking Johnson. The Defense that year they lost to dallas in the playoffs was a top 5 (if not higher) unit in the league.....Monday night left a sour taste in everyones mouth. But then again I was at the percy harvin two return TD game, and the 35-0 MNF ### kicking the warner rams gave us on MNF.....the Justin tucker 60 yarder with the playoffs on the line.....the Atlanta 10 second run off game...…….wtf...…….

Dropped him this week after acquiring Brady last week and Dak off the wire this week, and a flier on Lamar Jax. The killer here, I drafted him as my starter over Rivers and Big Ben and just missed on Mahomes in the 10th.

I'll make my plea for the 31st season in a row.

Get a good OL.  Even just one side.  Solves everything.
