Winston may not start week 4 because it’s a short week after MNF and the following week is a bye. There’s no logical reason he wouldn’t be starting in week 6. Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t the future and if Jameis isn’t either they should have released him. 

That being said I also can’t see them sitting Fitz down if he plays at that level the next 2-3 weeks. 

Those deep balls were available to Jameis last year too. He just missed them.

The coach is on a string....he doesn’t give a crud about Winston. He will play who he thinks will win games. If Fitz continues to do that then he will play.

 
Fitz is usually fantasy gold for about 5 games, which is perfect for when Jameis returns. no coach in his right mind would keep Winston on the bench and play Fitz instead.

If they don’t start winston soon after eligibility, they might have a big long term issue at qb then.. that would seem like a huge can of worms

 
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the Underwear Gnome of the NFL:

Phase 1: get job as backup
Phase 2: play great as replacement starter and get huge free agent contract from another team
Phase 3: PROFIT!

Jameis is getting his job back. It’s not even a conversation worth having. 

 
He kinda is though... you know how many teams he's bilked like this? Miami, NY Jets, Buffalo, probably missing one. He's great for 4-5 games and when it starts getting colder the INTs flow like water. I'd look to deal him soon.

He has much better weapons on this TB team and an OC calling aggressive plays.  Why don't people consider the situation a player is in?

 
At a certain point a pattern exists... when you get burned four times over a seven year pattern and every single time when the weather gets cold the guys fails... why give the benefit of the doubt in situation 5? It's not like he had no weapons in his previous stops.

And that's fine, but that will set up the regression narrative even harder. Just know a point comes up in another month where historically and repeatedly, it goes south hard. Just keep that in mind and game plan accordingly so you guys don't get burned.

Cute. If by some miracle he's the starter, bench him on the road in colder weather. Look, you can believe that he's changed this time and everything is fine, that's your choice. But his history exists and you can't erase a decade of evidence by just laughing at it.

Quick schedule check shows a game against Baltimore on 12/16. Nothing with the possibility of cold weather other than that. Cute.

This offense is ridiculous.   Howard adds a dimension that makes them really hard to defend.  It's what we were supposed to see last year.  Guys are just running wide open, so I dont see why Fitz is gonna stop finding them.  

 
Has there been a stranger NFL QB's career than this guys?

It goes without saying that the real Fitzpatrick will eventually show himself, but in the meantime you ride this for as long as it does.  Unless he ####s the bed next week, the Bucs are complete idiots if they bench him in week 4 for the crag legs eater.

No. 

This is just a reminder the Bucs were 7th in the league in yards per play last year. The explosive plays are new but they’ve been moving the ball.

Usually not super cold in Baltimore until after Christmas.  Especially with that being a 1pm game, it’ll be 40-60 degrees around then daytime.

I think we're all in the same place with it; especially people with questionable QB situations (like me).

I've seen this story before, as has nearly a quarter of the league he's QB'd for. He starts strong and then it goes off a cliff fast. Could he have found his pot of gold? Maybe. I'm struggling between grabbing him (???) or going for someone like Joe Flacco (who has a much lower ceiling but much higher floor). I suspect many may be debating between the same QBs too.

I just don't see how they give the job back to Winston.  Maybe @Capella has some local knowledge on the situation but Fitz has had two games with over 400 yards and 4 TDS.  The Bucs have now beaten two great teams in the Saints and the Eagles.  These are two teams that many people predicted to be in the Super Bowl (or at least definitely playoff teams). 

The Bucs are at home in week 3 against the Steelers, who just got shredded by KC.  The Bucs then have a much tougher task in week 4 at Chicago.

I think Fitz will roll again against Pittsburgh but then struggle at Chicago.   

 
Winston will almost definitely get the job back this year. Whether it’s after the bye or Chicago or a poor performance by Fitz we’ll see. But if he keeps throwing for 400/4 every week, then yea it’s his. 

The decision doesn’t have to be made now so there really isn’t any point in speculating.

Or he plays like he did in 2015 where he was dominate with Marshall Decker, Enunwa, Cumberland and Ivory/Powell at RB. Outside RB, this team is as good if not better at every position. Barring the horrible late game play calling week 17, they make the playoffs that year.

No reason to let Winston come in and screw it up. They probably will however because that's what stupid teams do. Idiots will call for Winston after the first loss or bad game. You know Jackson doesn't want that guy anywhere near the field. He's putting up #s 3x what he did with that bum.

Rolling with this guy next week vs the sucky PITT D. We are seeing what this O can do with a competent NL QB.
