QB Teddy Bridgewater (2 Viewers)

rockaction said:
Middling to poor. Carolina doesn't play fantasy football. Everyone says he's just a game manager. When he briefly played preseason for the Jets, he took a lot of shots. And he grew into aDOT as the games went on in NO. His tag isn't necessarily so, though I'm loath to buck consensus like that when I'm not an expert nor a scout.
I think Teddy is being underrated a bit. The Panthers defense is really bad, like bottom 5 in the NFL bad, so I don't think they'll have the luxury of using Teddy as a game manager. His weapons are in many ways similar to what he had on New Orleans, with a young budding star WR(Moore) a great pass catching RB(CMC) and seam stretching TE(Thomas) and deep threats(Anderson/Samuel) the difference, is that the Saints had an elite o-line, where as the Panthers o-line is very much a work in progress.

I would bet on Teddy being a top-20 fantasy QB, just off job security and passing volume. I think he'll be somewhat similar to Jared Goff, where you won't trust him week to week, but he's a solid QB2, or QBBC guy.

Panthers coach Matt Rhule hinted that Teddy Bridgewater could take more downfield shots given the team's personnel at wide receiver.

"I think one of the strengths of our team is that Robby Anderson's a deep-play threat, Curtis Samuel is a deep-play threat, DJ Moore is a deep-play threat," Rhule said. "So we feel like we have the power to be able to take advantage of throwing the ball downfield, and we know Teddy can do that." Bridgewater typically wasn't asked to look downfield with the Saints, averaging 6.2 intended air yards per attempt while launching the ball 20-plus yards over the top on just nine passes last year, but six of said tosses were at the very least deemed accurate. New OC Joe Brady will undoubtedly implement yards after the catch in his play-calling to maximize matchups, but fantasy players should expect Bridgewater to go deep at a league-average rate in year one under Rhule. The 27-year-old veteran remains a juicy late-round flier, especially given the team's salivating Week 1 matchup against Las Vegas.

Panthers HC Matt Rhule said the team could keep six or seven wide receivers going into the regular season.

Panther beat writer David Newton said it's "another indication of how wide open this offense is going to be with three to four receivers on the field at the same time," adding that the team usually decides on "whether to keep four to six receivers." Carolina offensive coordinator Joe Brady seems committed to running a relatively fast paced, aggressive offense. The Panthers could once again be among the league leaders in pass attempts. On a completely unrelated note, Teddy Bridgewater is available in the 14th round of one-QB leagues and the tenth round of 2-QB leagues.

First round pedigree

DJ Moore and CMC to throw to

awful defense

division full of high-scoring offenses = shootouts and garbage time

Kind of a lot to like here, actually.  He was a late-round target for me in drafts this year.

great points...i have him in a couple leagues, one of them is a SF so will be starting him out of necessity so I hope he plays from behind as you suggested.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 22-of-34 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' Week 1 loss to the Raiders.

Bridgewater was solid yet unspectacular in his Panthers debut, slicing through the middle of the Raiders' defense on short to intermediate throws. He did hit Robby Anderson on 75-yard score, which featured Anderson breaking rookie CB Damon Arnette's ankles and running free for another 50 yards on his own. The Panthers have the playmakers to turn shorter passes into longer gains and should continue to be in high scoring games thanks to their awful defense. Consider Bridgewater a QB2 against the Bucs in Week 2.

Bridgewater also lost a fumble in the pocket. For a quarterback known for his conservative passing style, Teddy B certainly did an awful job of protecting the football. The Panthers were clearly overmatched in multiple areas, but Bridgewater's accuracy on both interceptions were abhorrent, including a sailed screen pass to Christian McCaffrey near the line of scrimmage. Through two games Bridgewater has 76 passing attempts, but the scoring ceiling just isn't there to be a viable fantasy starter.

I think it's a case of a new QB, new team, new coach, new offense. It's going to take these guys some time to get right.

I was just looking at QB stats for the first two weeks and there were a few surprises to me. One of them is Teddy.

2 games is still too small a sample to project a season from, but so far Teddy has the 10th most passing attempts with 76. He is 6th in completion percentage with 72.4%

Teddy is 4th in total passing yards with 636. He is 7th in yards per attempt at 8.4

Teddy has only thrown 1 TD and 2 interceptions. He has been sacked 6 times so his adjusted yards per attempt is only 16th

He is playing like a top 10 QB in a lot of metrics that I think are important to future success.

Good points - I don't think the team wanted Teddy to throw that much but it's going to be out of necessity given how bad the defense is.

And with McCaffrey out, Teddy better warm that shoulder up even more.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 22-of-28 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' 21-16 Week 3 win against the Chargers.

Bridgewater managed the CMC-less Carolina offense to victory, checking down to Mike Davis nine times. Unless the Panthers are forced into frantic comeback mode, Bridgewater is going to post modest fantasy output this season. We could see Carolina chasing points next week against the Cardinals. Bridgewater will be a sneaky superflex start.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 26-of-37 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers' 31-21 Week 4 win against the Cardinals, adding six rushes for 32 yards and a touchdown.

This was Bridgewater's best performance in black and blue, remarkably on point and accurate in the intermediate game. Even Bridgewater's 18-yard touchdown run was remarkable, juking and spinning away from multiple defenders near the line of scrimmage to not only convert a 3rd-and-8 but also land in the endzone. His connection with Joe Brady is great, with the lone interception arriving on a sideline shot to Ian Thomas along the right sideline. After everything he has gone through in his career, seeing this kind of game from Teddy B reminds us about the best parts of football. He remains a QB2 against the Falcons in Week 5.

The Panthers coaching staff is doing a great job allowing Bridgewater to win underneath and over the middle. Robby Anderson has been a star while D.J. Moore has filled in as an efficient No. 2 receiver. Bridgewater remains accurate as a passer and now looks more mobile than in previous seasons. The Panthers simply haven't missed Christian McCaffrey because Mike Davis has been so good, but CMC will be returning shortly. Bridgewater has QB2 value for the rest of the season but will be tested by a Bears defense that's limited big plays for years now next week.

This might be the best stretch Bridgewater has had in years. His willingness to run more really adds another dimension to his game.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 16-of-29 passes for 216 yards and two interceptions in the Panthers' 23-16 Week 6 loss to the Bears.

Bridgewater was uncharacteristically inaccurate, including a vital miss on 4th and 2 to a wide open D.J. Moore on an outside breaking route, with Teddy placing the ball over an arms length away. It did not help that the Bears pass rushers frequently got the better of the Panthers' offensive line, forcing Bridgewater to scramble eight times for a total of 48 yards. The Panthers are still overperforming expectations at 3-3 and face the Saints in Week 7.

Teddy Bridgewater completed 15-of-23 passes for 176 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Panthers' 25-17, Week 8 loss to the Falcons, adding five carries for 30 additional yards.

The yardage output was Bridgewater's lowest of the season on a night where he almost didn't make it 60 minutes. Egregiously tripped on a late third quarter scramble, Bridgewater busted loose to slide only to take a sickening head shot from DE Charles Harris. Harris was ejected, but Bridgewater missed multiple plays as he was evaluated for a concussion and got his neck stretched out. He was officially announced with a neck ailment before returning after P.J. Walker ran the offense for a few minutes. Whereas Walker immediately tried to make a few things happen down the field, Bridgewater was even more conservative than usual this evening, failing to get anything deep until the game's dying moments. By then it was too late. Bridgewater did not look the same after returning from his neck injury, dialing up one checkdown after another behind a shaky offensive line. Bridgewater has helped get Curtis Samuel going the past two weeks, but Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore both had quiet games tonight. Offering decent floor but zero upside, Bridgewater will be a top 15-16 option for Week 9 against the Chiefs.

An MRI showed no structural damage in Teddy Bridgewater's injured knee.

Bridgewater hobbled off the field Sunday following a low hit from Jason Pierre-Paul. He had completed 18 of 24 attempts for 136 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception before exiting the game. Reportedly dealing with soreness and swelling in the knee, Bridgewater should be considered iffy to suit up this week against the Lions. Former XFL star P.J. Walker would be in line to start if Bridgewater is sidelined.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is considered "day-to-day."

Bridgewater suffered a "somewhat mild" MCL sprain on Sunday but has not been ruled out for Week 11 against the Lions. The Panthers, which have a cautious training staff, will likely have a verdict on Bridgewater's outlook by mid-week. P.J. Walker, who replaced Bridgewater against the Buccaneers, would presumably get the nod over Will Grier if Bridgewater is ruled out.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Teddy Bridgewater is expected to be limited in practice Wednesday.

By all accounts, Bridgewater is day-to-day with a "minor" MCL sprain. He's likely to practice in limited fashion all week, but he appears to be on the right side of questionable for now. We'll see how his knee holds up in practice though. If things go sideways, P.J. Walker would receive a spot start.

Teddy Bridgewater (knee) practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday.

This seemed to be the plan since Monday. A "minor" MCL sprain is what Bridgewater is dealing with, but each report is accompanied by some optimism in regards to the quarterback playing on Sunday. If not, coach Matt Rhule said P.J. Walker and Will Grier will compete for the starting nod.

Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was limited again at Thursday's practice.

He was seen wearing a red non-contact jersey and walking with a limp during the session. Bridgewater is looking more and more like a game-time call for head coach Matt Rhule. PJ Walker and especially Will Grier starting this week against the Lions would be a downgrade for the entire Carolina offense and an upgrade for Detroit's defense. Walker could be a fringe option in superflex leagues.

Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is unlikely to play in Week 11 against the Lions.

Bridgewater was at Thursday's practice, walking with a limp. It's unclear who will start under center for Carolina this week with Will Grier and P.J. Walker splitting practice reps. Walker would be a volatile superflex option if he gets the call against the Lions while fantasy managers should avoid Grier, who was a disaster in two 2019 starts.

Teddy Bridgewater (knee) says he's taking his Week 11 status "one day at a time."

"Honestly, I'm very happy that it wasn't as serious," Bridgewater said Thursday. "I know the advice that I'm getting from those around me, they have my best interest.'' Bridgewater was "limited" in both Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported Bridgewater is "unlikely" to play, but it seems too early to bake that into Week 11 planning. We should have a pretty good idea by the time Friday's injury report is released. P.J. Walker will be an intriguing DFS punt play if Bridgewater sits vs. Detroit. That is, if he starts over Will Grier. He should.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Carolina hasn't "given up on the idea" of QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) playing this week against the Lions.

The dream of a gimpy Bridgewater getting the start is still alive. Rapoport said Bridgewater is moving around better than he did in early-week practices and Lions head coach Matt Patricia told reporters he's preparing to face off against Teddy. Former XFL star P.J. Walker would be a volatile superflex option if he gets the call against the Lions while fantasy managers should avoid Will Grier if he gets the call.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports "there's optimism about Teddy Bridgewater's status" for Week 11 against the Lions.

Bridgewater went through some drills and his knee "went well". The Panthers will monitor how his knee responds overnight before giving him a chance to warm up ahead of Sunday's game. He remains a true game-time decision with P.J. Walker and Will Grier available if he's forced to watch from the sidelines. Quarterbacks can play through knee sprains, but a one week turnaround is pushing it.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee, questionable) is "a true game-time decision" for Week 11 against the Lions.

Rapoport added that Bridgewater has improved throughout the week and did more in practice on Saturday than he did Friday. Bridgewater's status will be based on how he feels in warmups and if the team believes he doesn't have a weighted re-injury risk this week. If he is unable to go, XFL star P.J. Walker is expected to draw the start. Walker has an impressive cast of weapons to work with but reports from earlier in the week stated that he could split time with fellow backup QB Will Grier. That removes Walker from the streaming conversation.
