Question about Gonzo (1 Viewer)

Everyone's saying that his numbers will go way down, because Roaf is gone and he'll have to block.

Wouldn't the Chiefs have made a strong play for a blocking tight end if that's what they had in mind? Teams use a two tight end set all the time when they need to keep one in for blocking purposes.

I just find it hard to believe that the coaching staff would ignore the fact that they have one of the NFL's all-time greatest pass catching tight ends, just because they need some blocking help.

They kept him in to block alot last year when Roaf was out. They needed he and Dunn since Sampson/Black stunk. I predict more of the same this year. Plus you have to condsider the Herm Factor.

I think it's less of him having to block than the concern that the offense will be less Gonzo-friendly with Vermeil and Saunders gone. I'm not sure I agree, but I can see where the concern lies.

I have Gonzo as TE5 on my board right now, but it's not because of concerns about him blocking more...

I think I had him on one of my teams last year and I can't get over that crappy start he had...

Last year he finished as the 6th best TE in my league's scoring [so I actually have him improving one spot] -- 100 points behind Gates and about 35 points behind the 2nd best TE...

On the other hand the loss of Roaf, Saunders and Vermeil may end the constant pounding of the running game in the redzone. Gonzo's TDs could go back to historical levels.

I have him TE4

The OL (Roaf) was the major reason for his decline last year, but the loss of Saunders (IMO, a non-factor as to Gonzo) and transition from Vermiel to Edwards will be interesting this year. Herm is a smart HC, and the new OC was the OL coach last year. Don't worry too much about Gonzo, but don't expect too much of an improvement from last year.

Chaos may be right on the TDs, more so because Priest is out, than anything else. LJ is a horse, but the backup is not a TD producer.

He's been on the downslide ever since Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Now that he's one year removed from Bullet Through Head syndrome, I think he's going to pretty much level off.Or are we talking about a different Gonzo?
