I'm not a Bucs fan, but I would have liked to have seen AD and Gruden had gotten along better at the end so he (Gruden) would've never left.

Absolutely no way. Love the guy, think he's a great coach, glad he finally won one, but that team had exactly two years left to win a Super Bowl and he had shown (with that team) that he wasn't going to be the guy to do it. All you have to do is look at the previous two years and the roastings they took up in Philly.

Super Bowl > few years of sucking. Besides that, the Bucs threw in a nice season last year to keep us awake.

As an Eagles fan, I have to agree with Capella here. A super bowl is worth sucking for a few years. Way better than being on top every year but never winning it all

I won't argue this point, but we have no idea of knowing how many Super Bowls Dungy would have won from 2002-2006 with the Bucs. Obviously 0, 1 and >1 are all choices here. Going forward most Bucs fans would probably rather have Dungy than Gruden, since I think most people believe that Dungy's a better coach. So I guess you have to weigh how likely it is that Dungy would have won a Super Bowl and then add in the value for having him going forward.I think it's an interesting question.

Well, we have a pretty good foundation on how to base that guess. Even moreso considering the cap hell the team was heading directly into afterwards. With that defense the Bucs could have/should have won multiple Super Bowls. Or at least played for more than one. The offense, largely due to Dungy's meddling always prevented it from getting going. Look at the Mike Shula/Clyde Christianson disasters for that. That team had no business going 8-8 in '98, only needed two TDs to beat the Rams in the NFCCG in 99 and got boatraced in back to back playoff games in Philly before Gruden finally stepped in and got the job done the year after.Seriously, don't get me started here. He did not get the job done while he had the chance to do it. The Glazers saw the window was closing and moved before it slammed shut. Long-term was it the best answer? Probably not. Short-term though it produced the desired result, and obviously Gruden has shown in other years he can get the job done on the field as well. I know revisionist history is fun and hindsight is 20/20, but there's no reason to think Dungy was going to figure it out here AFTER his best players went into the downside of their career. fwiw, the team went 11-5 and won the division just a year ago. It's amazing how short some memories are as well. God I hate this topic.

I agree with Capella. I love what Dungy did for the team in his tenure, but every season ended in heartbreak. I mean, the defense had Shaun King in the NFCC! Dungy was too loyal to mediocre offensive players and coaches. Gruden is a great coach who is still very young and has an intensity that is earnest, the man loves football.

I was rooting as hard as an Indy fan for Dungy to win a SB, but I still would rather have Gruden leading the Buc.

Absolutely NO.

I will always love Dungy for what he accomplished here. But people forget that he had some MAJOR disappointments. Going to the NFCC, then hosting the SB in Tampa the following year, and MISSING THE PLAYOFFS is one.

We needed a change. Gruden was the perfect change.

I wonder which 4 Buc fans voted to have Tony back? I can't imagine anyone who has been here for more than the last 5 years voting that way. Tony's a nice guy, but we've seen where they finish.

And kudos to him for getting his ring, but with the top-flight offense that was in place there (and LEFT in place when he came) all he really had to do was get them to play a little defense. Even with (ARGUABLY) the greatest QB ever, it still took him 5 years to get over the top.

I agree. I would classify most people who feel that way as "Dungy fans"...not "Buc fans".
