Quick Thought On Rumors (1 Viewer)

Copied from the Gholston thread:

I don't want this place to become a place where people throw anything to the wall that has a shred of credibility and hope things stick.

I don't want this place to become a place where the only stories that are allowed to be talked about are the ones that ESPN broke 2 hours ago.

There is a balance there.

As a general rule, the more explosive a story is, the better you need to have your source nailed down. For instance, do not start something like a player is going to be suspended for steriods when you "believe" you heard a radio host talking about it. Don't post it here without the source nailed down.

If it's your brother's girlfriend's sister in law as the source, say that. And people can weigh it out. If it's your brother that's the source, say that too. And people can weigh that out.

When it's a RUMOR, say it clearly that it's a rumor.

And keep the notebook out. Meaning a guy that comes in here with a new rumor every week that never winds up panning out won't be posting long on the board.

On the flip side, one of the huge strengths of this board is the large number of people that post here and the large number of connections they have. I want to leverage that for the good of the board. Not squelch it. But it takes balance.

Some clarification:

- There was a concern among some scouts that Gholston was on the juice because of his appearance and performance in the weight room. It had surfaced in the last few months.

- We'll know by when Gholston goes on draft day whether those concerns were found to be true at the combine or not.

- Josh said he does not personally believe the talk, but he wanted to report that the concern was out there.

I know there is a fine line between reporting that a rumor exists and actually giving steam to the rumor, if there is a line at all - but we justed to clarify that the report was that the concern did exist among scouts - it originated in the scouting community, not on our show.

:2cents:There is a difference in saying, "Buchanon said on the Audible that Gholston was on the juice" to "Buchanon said on the Audible that scouts are concerned about Gholston being on the juice"

Gee whiz....After hearing him report his own B.S. specualtion rumor that the Bills could be looking to trade Lee Evans....I wish you were Chris Mortensen's boss.

I remember I posted on here 1 minute after seeing it a couple years back Dallas was going to dump TO. I even stated the reference. The sportscaster on the local news. I forget if it was the local ABC,NBC, or CBS but I didn't think it deserved immediate delete as it got even though it proved to be untrue just as this one will be. No one is perfect in life!

Back to the subject.... It's funny how I hinted to some of my most talked to fantasy buddies about how rumors on Gohlston will be sure to pop up several days before the rumor broke out because of the way he looks. Anyone that looks at the freak of nature that would be there first thought as a discussion naturally. The truth is he is a product of the weight room and the strength program that is second to none at the Ohio State University. I'll leave it at that!

Gholston's a freak and I think it sucks that they even bother testing football players for steroids. Merriman wasn't the only one using them, he just got caught, and if you think Gholston and a few thousand other college prospects didn't juice to get their strength up and possibly nail a multi-million dollar NFL contract, then you're gullible and naive.

That being said, I have seen confirmation and resurfacing as well as refutation that Dallas wants to trade their top 2 to get Miami's first pick. I saw that Jones denied this one himself, but yet the rumor has resurfaced.

Any ideas what is going on about this?
