Racist rancher,feds at a standoff.Drone strike looming! (1 Viewer)

Some random racist: I hate America and think the blacks are only good at getting welfare

FFA Poster: I think this is a good time to have a reasonable discussion on welfare reform, why are people all worked up when I try to have that discussion?
There's actually been a long thread on welfare reform in the FFA recently. Odd that SweetJ, Captain Q, and Rove don't seem interested in having that discussion unless the entry point is "black people are only good for picking cotton".

If he doesn't recognize the federal government why doesn't he give them back their money? Seems like it should be worthless to him.

I don't open all threads here. I'd be happy to participate there.

Sweet J's a good poster, let's not lump him in with clowns like Rove. Perhaps his timing was a bit off, but we're all guilty of poor timing occasionally.

Agreed. No surprise with the other 2 mentioned but Sweet J doesn't deserve to be mentioned with them.

Much abliged. My timing is certainly off, as I don't come to FBG but a fraction of when I used to.

For what it's worth: welfare issues are a sort of pet interest of mine for a while now, so I tend to throw out thoughts when something strikes me as interesting. But I do believe my posting was a bit of a hijack.

I'd happy to go back to making fun of the ######## rancher.

I was having that discussion 4 years ago when BFS started it beyotch.

He has his group of hapless followers and will only gather more hapless followers. Government should stop toying with him/them and give him/them the beat down we all want to see.

This case demonstrates the failure of community ownership of property. Ranchers are allowed to graze the land and build a life and a livelihood based on the ability to share the communal land. Then, at the whim of the Party Bosses, the land is re purposed and grazing rights are reduced, driving the ranchers out of business.

Central planning fail.

I thought about what Reverend Martin Luther King said. I thought about Rosa Park taking her seat at the front of the bus. Reverend Martin Luther King did not want her to take her seat in the front of the bus. That wasn't what he was talking about. He did not say go to the front of the bus and that's where your seat was. What Reverend King wanted was that she could sit anywhere in the bus and nobody would say anything about it. You and I can sit anywhere in the bus. That's what he wanted. That's what I want. I want her to be able to sit anywhere in the bus and I want to be able to sit by her any where in that bus. That's what he wanted. He didn't want this prejudice thing like the media tried to put on me yesterday. I'm not going to put up with that because that's not what he wanted. that's not what I want. I want to set by her anywhere on that bus and I want anybody to be able to do the same thing. That's what he was after, it's not a prejudice thing, but make us equal.

If I call — if I say 'negro' or 'black boy' or 'slave,' I'm — If those people cannot take those kind of words and not be offensive, then Martin Luther King hasn't got his job done yet.
Today, from Cliven Bundy. This is priceless. :lmao:
I find that using the expression "black boy" works out very well for me.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day, in Nevada, a white racist rancher will be able to use words like "Negro" and "black boy", and nobody will criticize him.

And when this happens, when we allow bigoted, antiquated terms to ring, when we let them ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Black boy spiritual, "Free to be a racist at last! free to be a hater at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

This #### is hilarious. The pols scattering for cover...this country is one long, running hilarious joke. Long live Bundy!!

You know who isn't racist? Harry Reid. He has Chinese friends. So close friends that he is getting them public lands for their solar panels. Great guy he is.
Up to twice a day now I see.
We should applaud the efforts of the "special people."
You know who is special? Harry Reid's Chinese friends. They get public lands for pennies on the dollar to put their solar panels on. Great guys.

Which Chinese friends are you talking about?

Where was all the armed support and media support for Colvin in the 2006 case against BLM?

http://asci.uvm.edu/equine/law/cases/use/colvin.htm
I don't think anybody ever heard of this Colvin case until now....

one key difference is that the US govt didn't change the rules on him as they did in the Bundy case initiating the dispute/boycott.
What rules were changed again?
The grazing rules....try to keep up
Don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this story about a mooching faux-patriot so I'm depending on folks like you to fill me in. Am still trying to figure out the other side of this argument.

When rules/laws change we just don't have to follow them if we don't like?
GOVERNMENT OVERREACH!!!

A friend of mine has become increasingly kooky in the militia/"true libertarian" way over the past year or so, and it's scary how delusional many of these extreme groups are with this. He posts 10-20 links a day to blogs/message boards/sites that are treating this like it's their version of the rapture. Organizing pilgrimages to the Bundy ranch, posting crazed anti-government posts, etc.

It's an interesting window into a mindset I would otherwise be unfamiliar with, but it's also a bit unsettling to see this stuff.

Boy, they do not like Obama.
Mob mentality gets them every single time. They keep whipping each other up into a frenzy, and shouting, and backslapping, which in turn makes them feel justified. Unfortunately, they stop thinking as individuals. What kills off most of these movements is when no one pays attention, and some of these folks come to their sense, sneak away, and quietly try to pretend it never happened.

Probably spend a lot of time hoping no one took pictures.

I've never seen an issue that so clearly defines who the stupid people in this country are. Anybody supporting this hayseed should be forced to walk around with a scarlett cow on their chest or something.

It does help that Obama is president, but I honestly believe that many conservatives are much more comfortable in situations like this, when they get to oppose the federal government, than they are when we have Republican presidencies, and they support law and order and the establishment. There is an anti-establishment strain among conservatives which they relish- it fits in with romantic notions of the old west and, to a certain extent, the Confederacy.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2014/04/25/black_bundy_bodyguard_hes_not_a_racist_id_take_a_bullet_for_that_man.html

CNN REPORTER: You're protecting this man and he's wondering whether African-Americans would be better off as slaves. How does that strike you?

JASON BULLOCK, BODYGUARD FOR CLIVEN BUNDY: It doesn't strike me any kind of way. This is still the same old Mr. Bundy I met from the first day of all this happening.

CNN REPORTER: But aren't those offensive comments to you

BULLOCK: Not at all.

CNN REPORTER: Not offensive?

BULLOCK: Because Mr. Bundy is not a racist. Ever since I've been here he's treated me with nothing but hospitality. He's pretty much treated me like his own family.

###

BULLOCK: I would take a bullet for that man, if need be. I look up to him just like I do my own grandfather.

CNN REPORTER: Why?

BULLOCK: Because I believe in his cause and after having met Mr. Bundy a few times, I have a really good feel about him and I'm a pretty good judge of character.

Don’t tell me they don’t work, and don’t tell me they don’t pay taxes. And don’t tell me they don’t have better family structures than most of us white people. When you see those Mexican families, they’re together, they picnic together, they’re spending their time together, and I’ll tell you in my way of thinking they’re awful nice people. And we need to have those people join us and be with us not, not come to our party.

This story is kind of interesting.
To me what's interesting is not the rancher himself, but the Tea Party types who are coming to his support. These people begin with the conviction that the federal government is the enemy and they are eager to rally behind anyone who defies that government- so long as its a conservative rebellion that is. They're not going to support a progressive rebellion like Occupy Wall Street or black protests against racism- when those kind of protests occur, these same people usually demand that the authorities come down hard. But when an older white man defies the government and threatens to use guns to defend his "rights", that's a hero to rally behind.
So let me see if I have this right:

you say conservatives support conservative antiheroes and progressives support progressive antiheroes?

Now that is something.

When do you think republicans will stop blaming the media for every opinion different than thier own?

Don't agree with me? Damn you media!!!!

So how long will the remaining Most Interesting Militia In the World folks stay out there "defendin' " now that BLM is gone. Bundy's reduced to holding press conferences and talking with media he denounces in order to get attention now. What are the militia bozos going to do, start shooting grass?

Are they going to make the women and children stand in front of them when they shoot grass?

We need answers.

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” the rancher began as he described a "government house" in Las Vegas where he recalled that all the people who sat outside seemed to "have nothing to do."

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he said, as quoted by the Times. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”
Cliven Bundy. Right-wing hero.
Cliven Bundy's congressman: Steven Horsford
Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nevada, said rancher Cliven Bundy’s recent comments about African Americans are “infused with bigotry and racism and paint the black experience in America in a hateful way.”“Those words were hateful and belong in the dustbin,” Horsford told a news conference in Mesquite city hall late Thursday afternoon. “They were spoken by a man who doesn’t understand the black way of life.”
Horsford said he was shocked by Bundy’s comments.“This district is a micorcosm of our diverse country, and he is not a man who represents the American West’s way of life,” Horsford said. “It is beyond unfortunate that from this diverse community a loud voice of intolerance has been given a megaphone.”
http://www.thespectrum.com/proart/20140424/news01/304240023/racial-statements-further-cloud-cattle-issue?pagerestricted=1

There's some local concern about the Most Interesting Militia In The World.

“We discussed where things stand, what we can do to resolve the situation and get people who came here (armed milita) to leave,” Horsford said. “The issues surrounding public lands is bigger than one person, bigger than Cliven Bundy.”

Among those talking in person with Horsford were members of the Moapa Valley Town Advisory Board, Bunkerville Town Board and Mesquite city, as well as by phone with Crescent Hardy, a former Nevada assemblyman current challenging Horsford for his 4th Congressional District seat, and Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins.

“The thing we want to get out is that this community is safe, and you are welcome,” Horsford said. “This is a tourism town, and outside groups are putting a black eye. We are not a playground for armed militia.
“Members of these communities don’t feel safe and community members of Moapa Valley, Mesquite and Bunkerville deserve to feel safe, and we are looking for options for them,” the congressman said.
They'll probably have to pay the militia to leave.

Fox's Krauthammer Blasts Conservatives For Their Support Of Cliven Bundy

Krauthammer: It's "Truly Appalling" That Anti-Government Stances Can Make You "A Conservative Hero"

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I agree entirely with Chuck. First of all it isn't enough to say I don't agree with what he said. This is a despicable statement. It's not the statement, you have to disassociate yourself entirely from the man. It's not like the words exist here and the man exists here. And why conservatives, or some conservatives end up in bed with people who, you know, he makes an anti-government statement, he takes an anti-government stand, he wears a nice big hat and he rides a horse, and all of a sudden he is a champion of democracy. This is a man who said that he doesn't recognize the authority of the United States of America. That makes him a patriot? I love this country, I love the Constitution, and it is the Constitution that established a government that all of us have to recognize. And for him to reject it was the beginning of all of this. And now what he said today is just the end of this.

And I think it is truly appalling that, as Chuck says, there are times when somehow simply because somebody takes an oppositionist stand, he becomes a conservative hero. You got to wait, you got to watch, you got to think about it. And look, do I have the right to go in to graze sheep in Central Park? I think not. You have to have some respect for the federal government, some respect for our system. And to say you don't and you don't recognize it and that makes you a conservative hero, to me, is completely contradictory, and rather appalling. And he has now proved it.

Identifying the attributes of a racist does not make one racist. Just like identifying the attributes of a candy bar does not make one a Snickers.
