RAIDERS @ BRONCOS - Game Thread (1 Viewer)

Grove, were you watching when Guy was playing? You didn't have to be a Raider fan to know how good this guy was.
No, he's before my time. But I think he's a guy whose legend is bigger than his actual performance. He was a great punter, but I think he's more myth than reality at this point.
LOL @ "myth"...
There's all sorts of ridiculous claims about his hangtime and such that just simply aren't even possible. I'm sure he was better than all of the punters of his time. There's a good chance he's still one of the best ever. But that doesn't mean he could out punt Lechler. I believe Lechler has the records for longest gross and net punt average for a season. And it blows away Guy.

Again, I think Guy was great, but I also think that there is zero appreciation for how good Lechler is. Ray Guy was in the NFL for 14 seasons and lead the league in punting 3 times. His longest gross average was 45.3 yards (and he wasn't first in the league that year). His career average of 42.4 yards is good for 73rd all time.

Lechler has lead the league in punting average 5 times in 11 years. His longest gross average is 51.1 yards, the only guy in NFL history to go over 50 yards. Lechler's 2nd LOWEST average is 45.7 which means Guy had a higher best average than just ONE of Lechler's years. His career average of 47.3 yards per punt is good for first all time. It's almost an entire yard higher than the #2 guy and almost 2 yards higher than the #3 guy.

20 years from now, Raiders fans will be pushing for Lechler for the HOF as the greatest punter of all time and Guy will be a nice after thought.

It's kind of concerning to me that the Raiders seem to believe that the best way to get the ball to WRs Ford and Moore is to hand it off to them.

Again, I'm not a Raiders fan at all(Packer backer all the way), but I watched Guy play and it's about way more than averages. His hang-time was insane and his ability to trap teams inside the 10 was second to none. He was a big time weapon for the Raiders. It's absolutely criminal that he's not in the HOF, but he's the only punter whose name is ever mentioned when the voting begins.

It would be cool if you didn't make things up. Nobody disrespected Lechler. He is amazing.I simply took issue with your comment that Guy was a myth. It's an especially laughable comment since you admit you never saw him play.

Jason Campbell doing the same thing that pissed off everyone in Wash. Running the playclock to :01 every single snap. This guy is just so deliberate...

McFadden is taking way too much contact. Also, I notice he has been taking himself out almost every other play.

This game is like the game that we will all be forced to watch in hell for neglecting our loved ones on sundays for many years.

Another thing to consider is the Raiders were actually a great team back then, so it wasn't just about cutting it loose. If Guy was kicking for the Raiders for the last several years, my guess is that he would have much higher averages.

Bush looks like he is not ready to play tonight and looks really slow. Eddie royal doesnt look good either.

Nice discipline.

And we were getting to Orton WAAAAY too frequently in the 1H with the blitz. Good thing we stopped that.

Why did they have to decline one of those? Roughing the passer happened during the play and the other one was a dead ball foul. Shouldn't it be 30 yards?

He's got 18 carries for 96 yards and we're barely halfway through the 3rd QTR. People will complain about anything...........
Dear god, what has happened to this place? I am concerned since he nearly had his head twisted off and has taken two to three big shots on his last few carries.

Sorry my comment was in reference to the second part of your post. He has 18 carries already so I hardly think he's "taking himself ouf almost every other play". Every stud rb takes their share of hits. He'll be fine.

Its called a contact sport for a reason, this is football after all not badminton. If your not willing to take and give big hits then you should be playing chess not football.
