The Raiders are reportedly bracing themselves for the possibility that head coach Tom Cable could soon be arrested for his training camp fight with former assistant Randy Hanson.

The NFL could also suspend Cable for violating the Personal Conduct Policy if he is charged with assault. "Everybody is trying to figure out who’s going to take over if Tom isn’t here," said one unnamed assistant. "(Defensive coordinator) John Marshall has a lot of experience, he’s probably the guy. But it’s nuts." Perhaps the situation is affecting the Raiders' offensive focus. The unit generated just eight first downs on Sunday. Oct. 4 - 8:56 pm et

:lmao: From crappy, predictable, unimaginative Seahawks' DC to Raiders' HC?! I can't tell if that's progress or lateral movement.
 
As I said at the time, if he did what the charges are alleging against him, he should be arrested and simultaneously fired from the Raiders whether Al Davis want to or not. In fact I think Roger Goodell loses all credibility if this story turns true and it does look like it is going that way.

Goodell's next move should be a major fine against Al Davis, not a $250,000 slap on the wrist, I mean something that makes him not make one red cent this year, whatever number that would be with all money going to the local education system there in Oakland...anything short of that and Goodell loses all credibility IMHO. I might even pick up a sign and protest if he doesn't crucify Al Davis for brushing this under the rug. No excuses.

 
I thought it would never be more entertaining than the Aaron Brooks Raiders, but man was I wrong. This team is the gift that keeps on giving.

And I :thumbup: the Raiders. No team is an entertaining trainwreck like these guys and no matter how low they sink they keep finding ways to get worse.

Unimaginative? Marshall? He put together a wonderful game plan for the Seahawks back in the 2005 playoffs against WR Steve Smith. If he's done a bad job since then, okay, but at least give him credit for coming up with an innovative method for dealing with Smith in that particular game.For those that don't know, Marshall lined up LB D.D. Lewis in front of Smith for most of the game. His job was to hit Smith as hard as he could at the snap of the ball every play. CB played over the top. They removed Smith from the game entirely.
 
Just fire him for driving that team in the ground. Fights happen internally in pro sports. The legal muckeddy muck is probably distracting, but it's not whats killing their offense.

 
Hanson's father lives in my area and plays poker at a local casino. He's been telling everyone that Cable just flat out clocked his son with a punch.

Sure, he had his moments, but it's easy to commit an LB on a WR every play when the other team is starting their #3 RB due to injury and he goes down early with a concussion or broken leg, can't remember which. His schemes since that game have been woefully inadequate.
 
Is there even another team in the NFL that you could imagine this happening to? Maybe the Bengals? If you came to me and told me that this happened without me knowing about it and asked me which team's head coach punched an assistant and could be arrested, I 100% would have guessed the Raiders. Would anyone have even guessed otherwise?

I honestly feel bad for their fans. I think it's even worse than being a Bills' fan.

So far Goodell has leaned in favor of the owners as to be expected. I think you will see one of those rediculous 500k fines.

Oakland fans can live with this. Penalties, fights, lack of discipline, that's all a part of Raider history. What we cant live with is losing.

Nick Goings had to start that game at RB because of injuries, but Peterson, Tatupu, and Hill stayed in the game at LB. Seattle removed a safety.Easy? I guess I disagree as I've never seen a similar strategy implemented, ever. Have you?Regardless, I can't really comment on how he's doing in Oakland. I haven't seen a single snap of Raider football with him as the defensive coordinator. However, his Seattle defenses weren't that bad. At least they weren't crappy, predictable, and unimaginative. That sounds like vented hyperbole because you would like to characterize the Raiders as a steaming pile of crap. I get that, but there's no need to take a huge dump on Marshall because of the other problems in Oakland.

I've been saying that about Marshall for the last three years. My point was that with no real running game to worry about and the only real weapon left being a pint sized WR, putting a permanent chuck on him is easy to do. If they had other weapons to deal with then he would've had to come up with another scheme. Once Goings went down it was even easier. The D was very good that year, it's the play of the D and the schemes of the three years after that game that lead to my opinion of him. Like Holmgren, the game passed him by and he refused to adapt.BTW, Peterson was a 49er still during that game. Seattle signed him after the Hutch fiasco IIRC.

Then there’s a Yahoo.com report which says an anonymous Raiders assistant coach said they staff is wondering who the head coach will be if Cable is suspended.

Cable’s got two problems if he were to be arrested and disciplined by the league and the legal system is only one of them. The other is if the team steams into the bye week at 1-7, the two issues combined would give Davis all the reason he would need to make two in-season firings in two years _ a first even for him.

When asked about the legal situation involving his coaches at the Richard Seymour press conference, Davis distanced himself from it by saying, “I don’t get involved in those things. I don’t know much about it. I don’t expect anything to happen. I hope nothing happens, let’s put it that way. That’s what we don’t need right now.”

Not exactly the sort of “it’s nonsense and Tom Cable is my coach” stance Davis could have taken, and that was before the Raiders had lost a game.

An arrest is quick. In and out in a few hours. Day max. Someone like him the PD would probably just call the lawyer and ask him to show up to turn himself in, get processed, and post bail in a very short period of time. It's not like they're going to send squad cars to the next home game and put him in cuffs in the middle of a game.

Goodell runs guys out of the league for less than what Cable has done. he had to investigate what happened, he'll look like a fool after this is finished. How can Goodell say he didn't know unless he was lied to which if true he needs to punish the owner and Cable hard. Racism enters into the conversation at some point BnB, it's a slippery slope and one where I could see critics really question Goodell and the whole situation.

Could we get a list of people that Goodell has run out of the league with their specific offenses? I can't think of one. Perhaps your definition of "run out of the league" is different than what I perceive it to be.

Interesting read. Man, I know that's going to be a biased piece and that's one guy's side to the story, but if it's 1/2 true, wow what a mess.

I used to SO respect and admire the Raiders organization back in the day. I still admire the fan base because they just keep on ticking. Talk about the rise and the fall... Is it safe to say the rash of quality coaches getting fired until they simply couldn't attract quality personnel marked the beginning of the end?

It states the witnesses corroborated Hanson's story so it isn't really one-sided in that regard. I think Cable is screwed.
