RAIDERS SIGN Drew Carter

RAIDERS SIGN ANOTHER

The Oakland Raiders' offseason assault on the free-agent market continues.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Raiders have agreed to terms with receiver Drew Carter, formerly of the Carolina Panthers. Terms are not yet known.

Carter was a fifth-round draft pick of the Panthers in 2004. He started seven games in 2007, catching 38 passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns -- all career highs.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Raiders have agreed to terms with WR Drew Carter.

Carter, 26, caught 38 passes for 517 yards (13.6 YPC) and four TDs as the Panthers' third receiver in 2007. He has no trouble separating, but has struggled to do the "little things" well. Carter will get good tutelage from WRs coach James Lofton and be a strong bet to pick up some starts when Javon Walker's knee acts up again. He's currently Oakland's third receiver.

That’s great. Now two of my dynasty WRs have fell into the “BLACK HOLE”.

Is there anything more useless than a deep threat WR in Oakland?

Yeah, who needs a deep receiver when you have a QB who can only throw the ball 92 yards...
but can he stay on his own two feet long enough to make it relevant?
Yes
we'll see. :popcorn:I must admit, the Raiders will be interesting this year. Maybe horrible, but still interesting.
The Raiders O-Line allowed 72 sacks in 2006 In 2007 those SAME O-Lineman allowed 41 sacks. What changed? Offensive philosophy. If you don't like that example, look at the 49ers offense in 2006 and compare it to the offense in 2007....A good offensive coordinator can change everything...

per rotoworld:

Drew Carter's one-year contract with Oakland is for $2 million.

It's more than double what he made last year, but still a rare decent investment for a Raiders club desperate for playmaking at wideout. Of course, it hardly makes up for the $55 million stunner they gave Javon Walker.

It's going to take more than a little DL pass rush to take down all 300+ lbs of the Raiders QB. I'm trying to find a link regarding the walking corpse signing Denny Green to play QB.

OK, so what do we have here?

Carter is a fast WR with questionable hands who can make the occasional big play, but who has been very inconsistent/unproductive overall in Carolina.

He goes to the Raiders where he's supposedly looked good in camp - but we've heard this before about him - and has only a distracted Javon Walker and an oft-injured Ronald Curry to contend with for catches. Sounds promising, but then we've heard this before about Oakland WR's too.

Now Carter's injured with a hyperextended knee.

So where is this all headed? Is there value for start-3 or even start-2 leagues, or are we in for another 35/450/3 season?

If you are really looking for value in the Raiders WRs I think you need to look elsewhere except maybe in larger leagues as a bye week fill in. The problem with the raiders WR is that there is so much uncertainty in regard to how Russel will play, how McFadden will play, the Javon Walker fiasco and now some injures to contend with - the only thing missing is raining frogs to make this situation more unclear. You might pick one and he might do well but at this point with all of these mitigating factors this will have more to do with luck than deductive reasoning and any research. I would rather take a flyer on a rookie WR than get involved in this mess.

That's kind of what I was thinking unfortunately. I've been holding him as my WR5 in a deep dynasty IDP league (40-man rosters; 14 teams) with PPR, behind Nate Washington, but I was hoping he'd develop into something, anything. I'm not ready to cut him, but my patience is getting short.
