Raiders T Gallery sidelined at least two-to-three weeks

Good news/bad news for Robert Gallery, the beleaguered Raiders left tackle.

The good: He won't get beat for any quarterback sacks in Sunday's game at Baltimore.

The bad: He won't be playing at all, now that he's shelved at least two-to-three weeks with a pulled calf muscle.

The latest setback puts Gallery one step closer to becoming an official NFL Draft bust. Taken second overall by the Raiders in the 2004 draft, he had mixed results at right guard for two seasons before moving to left tackle -- the premier offensive line slot -- this year.

In Monday's season opener, Gallery got beaten badly two times by Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman for quarterback sacks. He left practice Wednesday with a calf injury, and an MRI revealed serious enough damage to keep him out until October.

Enter Chad Slaughter, a 6-foot-8, 340-pound tackle from Alcorn State. Slaughter has started one game in six years. Not good news for an offensive line limping off a nine-sack performance.

Translation...........son you suck, sit on the bench for awhile and watch how it`s done.

The few times I've seen Gallery play were not impressive (considering he was such a high draft pick).

They (whoever they are) always say that offensive line talent should be had in rounds 3-6 of the NFL draft.

My bet is that this guy produces better than Gallery. I'm not sure what the problem was because he was so dominant at Iowa. Maybe too much $$ before the production.

MBK4 by the way ALWAYS gets to the news first.

Slaughter, who starts of Gallery is sidelined with a calf injury, played in last season's finale when Gallery suffered a broken leg and played well against the Giants' Michael Strahan.

Walter Jones, Orlando Pace, Jonathon Ogden, Willie Anderson, Tony Boselli, Wille Roaf, Anthony Munoz, Ron Yary...The teams that drafted those guys would have been much better served if they had just waited a few rounds before addressing their OLine needs.

Good point. The problem here is not Gallery, it is the stupid Raiders "organization". Notice none of those aforementioned linemen played for the Raiders. Even Randy Moss said it succintly last week when he said "something's fishy around here". If Gallery had been allowed to start at his natural left tackle spot all along he would be dominant now. Sure there are growing pains but to move him around so he's played 3 different positions is lunacy. Just another example of Al Davis mismanaging a team beyond repair. Sure they got to the Super Bowl a few years back, that was luck. Maybe when Davis dies this team will once again gain respectability. Right now it has a chance to be the worst organization in pro football.

man,...now i really must start Taylor over LaMont,..what has happened.

oh well,..maybe with Palamalou out it'll be a good choice anyways,..and i think DA BEARS was a better DST matchup vs Packers IMO.

well,..maybe i will start LaMont week 3,..i know he won't get me - pts that week

:lmao:

:goodposting: That is exactly what I thought. The conversation goes like this. Shell: your calf hurts right? Gallery: no coach I'm fine. Shell: I'm telling you your calf hurts and you need to sit. Gallery: no really I can play. Shell: no you can't and I really mean that, so I'm sitting you down with that calf injury. Gallery: maybe my calf is more sore than I thought I think I'll take a seat right here by the water cooler.

Anyone else think that THE problem with the Raiders is Al Davis?
 I don't know anyone who doesn't think that.
I'd say about 1/2 of Raider fans believe this. The majority of my friends/acquaintances/casual run-ins are Raider fans and about 1/2 got the memo like you RN, and the other 1/2 are loyal to a fault to Davis. I respect the loyalists, but at the same time think they're ignorant.

 Obviously the organization run by Al Davis that hires Art Shell as head coach has endemic problems but to assert that Robert Gallery, who looked like Meriman's turnstyle the other night, would be "dominant" had he not be eased into the left tackle role is a massive, unfounded leap of faith.

what's funny is that i've seen at least 3 different fantasy sites lament the gallery injury, one even saying how it's "devastating" to the raiders and their offensive players...

...did they even SEE the game monday night?

:goodposting: If Gallary was not dominate at RG or RT then why would he be better if he played LT - which is a harder position.

Im salivating with Baltimore def this week
it's almost too good of a matchup to believe, something tells me this is one of those things that absolutely, positively should go one way....but it won't
:goodposting: I'm starting to get that feeling too. I've got an old friend who's taken his share of lumps betting football, and he always espoused one truism (certainly not of his own invention, but he said it often enough that it's associated with him for me) that has never failed when I've applied it:"If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."

True, you can get some studs high, same goes with any position. But, guy that drafted Gallery, Gross and Williams lately are wishing they waited till the 3rd for guys like Hardwick, Starks and Manuwai. Look at the Colts, an OL comprised of late round picks does not slow that offense down.

When Gallery comes back, will he move inside to guard?

I remember in the 2004 draft that Gallery was considered the safest pick at the top of the draft. Kind of funny considering he was the only bust in an exceptionally strong group of top picks.

1. Eli Manning

2. Robert Gallery

3. Larry Fitzgerald

4. Philip Rivers

5. Sean Taylor

(Followed by Kellen Winslow, DeAngelo Hall, Reggie Williams, Dunta Robinson, Ben Roethlisberger, Johnathan Vilma, Lee Evans, Tommie Harris, Michael Clayton, and Shawn Andrews.)

Can you say Tony Mandarich? Rather scary that both were picked second overall. Another great second overall pick......Ryan Leaf :bag:

The Colts best Offensive Lineman is Tarik Glenn. Guess what round he was nabbed in?
