Good luck with that. I personally don't think there's a snowball's chance unless Jackson is out for half a season or more, but you're entitled to your overly optimistic opinion.I have to wonder now if Westbrook's agent was full of bull, suggesting he had several teams wanting to sign him. The surface he's playing on and the non-contending team he's playing with are both contrary to what he was looking for. I'm thinking that, as with most nearing-the-end backs, he was badly over-valuing himself and teams just weren't interested for much over the vet minimum or he'd be elsewhere.I think the Rams are a perfect place for Westbrook. Sledge-hammer RB in Jackson, young QB who will live on the checkdown passes, turf to enhance his speed...throw in the fact that Jackson will probably miss 2-4 games, and Westy could easily run for 600-700 yards and have 50-60 receptions.
I could see Westy being a very good PPR RB in St. Louis and giving the Rams alot more options on offense.
If he's wanting to win a super bowl, I don't know why he's going there, but I think it's a great spot for him in fantasy leagues.
Perhaps you're right and I'm over-estimating what he has left in the tank. I think that physically he is probably just as good as he was 2 years ago, aside from the concussions. Which means he might do great in limited action.I also think that it would do Jackson some good to actually be in a bit of a time-share. He could extend his career by another year or 2 if he isn't forced to get the number of carries he's getting.Good luck with that. I like Westbrook. I hope he does well. I'm just not counting on much.
I think it's more about who was willing to give him an opportunity. Like another poster said, I don't think there was really any major interest from teams. Injuries have sapped his explosiveness. Maybe he can carve out a niche late in his career as solely a 3rd down pass catching back.If Westbrook says "I came here because this is the best place to win, it's not about money, I want a super bowl" then![]()
I don't see a lot of fantasy value for Westbrook either, but it's more due to a lack of touches than the quality of the OL. Provided it stays healthy, I think the Rams' OL could be a pleasant surprise this year. Hope this does materialize, since I love the move for the Rams, but as far as consistent fantasy value goes, I wouldn't trust him. With SJax a complete RB including catching passes, I don't see much value for Westbrook in Ramtown. Too bad, I was hoping he'd gain a little more value than this somewhere else. Even if SJax is injured his value is limited. He doesn't have the power that SJax does to get it done behind that bad OL, making his own holes and dragging tacklers with him.
so westy will take the job from sjaxI don't like this for Jackson. The Rams are going to be behind in basically every game this year and Westbrook is the better receiver of the two. He knows this offense and Pat Shurmur well.
This is a joke right? They are signing Westbrook because they have no one else to take some carries from Jackson. That's it. Nothing more to read into.I don't like this for Jackson. Not the job, but it could affect his numbers significantly. If Westbrook actually does have something left in the tank, it would make sense given Jackson's injury history and the amount of touches he's had that the Rams make an effort to reduce Jackson's touches every week.As a Jackson dynasty owner this actually makes me happy. I'd probably think differently if I'd just spent a first round pick on him in redraft.so westy will take the job from sjaxI don't like this for Jackson. just do not buy his westy is a better receiver than Jackson agreement. from 2004(when Jackson came into the league) to 2009Jackson has 281 receptions in that 6 yearswesty- 380that is only 16.5 more receptions a year, a little over 1 a gameNot the job, but it could affect his numbers significantly. They have a lot of money invested in the line. It's just very young. If Bradford plays well (somehow) behind that OL, the Rams could shock everyone. Westbrook should be able to take even more weight off Bradford (like Jackson) and I think it's a great signing. Now sign 4 or 5 more quality OL and playmakers on D.

Regardless of who else they have, the Rams just need to find a way to actually move the ball without Jackson touching it. They are missing just about every offensive dimension there is other than the running game. If anything reduces Jackson's touches, it should be the Rams attempting to form a semblance of a real NFL offense.I agree that this signing (if it happens) will help Sjax's value. I don't Westy has enough in the tank to be anything but a way to give Jackson a breather, not even in the passing game.If I'm totally wrong, maybe a little Westy-Sjax Wildcat? Not the job, but it could affect his numbers significantly. Makes little sense. Washington is overloaded at RB, Larry, Portis, Torain, Keiland Rams have nothing beyond SJaxPer rotoworld:"NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the Redskins are the "team to beat" for free agent Brian Westbrook."Reports of Westbrook signing in St. Louis were clearly premature. La Canfora is hearing that "there's a good chance" Westbrook will sign with a team today, and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has made no bones about his team's interest all along. Westbrook, when healthy, would be able to add some big-play ability to an otherwise pedestrian Washington backfield.Source: Jason La Canfora on Twitter
The O-Line is mocked a great deal, but when healthy they play pretty well. They drafted a tackle 2nd overall last year (Jason Smith who was dinged part of the season), a tackle 33rd overall this year and signed Jason Brown as a FA center two years ago from Baltimore. They have the makings for a very solid line...And I do see Westy eating into Jackson's touches, but I also see that as a good thing. You can't put SJax out there to take the pounding he does every week. He needs a breather. Westbrook can help him take a breather and hopefully keep him on the field all 16 games. Jackson has a back problem and that's usually a death sentence to an NFL RB career. I see this as helping him and increasing his stock in my eyes. I had him missing time this year because of the back. If they can pace the guy with Westy then I think he has a better chance to play all 16 games...They have a lot of money invested in the line. There's a difference between being overloaded and overloaded with crap, the Skins RB's are the latter. He absolutely makes sense in Washington.Makes little sense. Barrows subsequently deleted this post from his blog, so I'm guessing it was premature. This is what Barrows posted earlier:________Niners to sign RB Westbrookby Matt BarrowsFormer Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is poised to sign a deal with the 49ers, according to a league source. Westbrook, 30, played eight seasons for the Eagles but was released in March after injuries, including concussions, marred his two most recent seasons. The 49ers, meanwhile, began searching for another running back on Friday when then-No. 2 runner Glen Coffee unexpectedly told the team he would retire. The 49ers will make this move despite an impressive showing Sunday by rookie running back Anthony Dixon, a sixth-round pick. Dixon rushed for 100 yards on 21 carries, including a five-yard touchdown, against the Colts. After the game, however, Mike Singletary gave the rookie a measured reviewMORE TO COMEbarrows reporting that westbrook is signing with SF
Does anyone else think that John Clayton does a horrible job with his reporting? I don't where he comes up with his stuff- does he just guess or does he actually talk to any people within NFL organizations.Sorry for venting, but it just seems like Clayton is off the mark far more than he is on. I clearly remember when he reported Brian Westbrook was done for the year with a bone on bone condition only to see Westbrook come back the following week. I for one will always be highly skeptical of anything John Clayton reports. He has lost all credibility in my book- two cents.espn_nfcwest Just landed in STL and finished radio with John Clayton, who says the Rams will likely add Brian Westbrook on Monday. Good insurance.
