None in town, but a couple in Austin!! I have a "friend" wanting me to make a trip there. I might be able to get my groin loosened out and then give it a test ride!I strongly recommend seeing a certified MAT therapist. I can't say enough good things about my MT who worked with me on MAT.![]()

LOL...he's doing the Chase? AT least they'll be a bunch of you dudes to massage his groin so he doesn't miss one of his legs. Theoretically. If he'd stop acting like he's 18 and get that stupid groin healed up. I'm gonna be 5 days post-marathon, so there's no way in hell I'm running extra miles to make up for his stupid ###.LOL...he's doing the Chase?
(Seriously, dude. Get better. I don't wanna have to call in the back-up.)I'm trying! In my head, if I can get up to running 8 miles pain free, I can do the Chase. Huh - we used to call Christian Laettner a homo every game (all game) he came to Clemson. We got nothing but cheers. Then again we were probably more accurate with him...YupI officially can't drink anymore. Just got tossed out of Fenway Park with a front row seat on the 3rd base line after calling Austin Kearns a homo....nay screaming "Austin Kearns is a homo" for 7 innings. LOL. Thing are different in Boston my friend. I'm not even really thrilled because Ellsbury hit a walk off homerun and I missed it. I had 4 drinks and I couldn't function. at some of the drunk stories in here. I actually cut way back on my alcohol consumption a couple of months ago for health reasons -- I just was plainly drinking too much. Since then, I think I've had a total of 7-8 beers -- over dinner with three different people who were here to interview for a job -- and two glasses of wine total. I used to dring that much on a typical Saturday afternoon.Holey-Moley that sounds awesome! On October 7 in Clermont, Ky it looks like the average high temp is 72 and the average low is 52. I rarely drink anymore.Used to be at least once on a weekend or during the week Id have something.Gave it up this year for lent and it was barely even a sacrifice...and helped in my training.Just 2 binges in a way since then (around my family at Disney and this past weekend). Now I will likely go a week or so before even having a single beer after dinner or something.Helps me that I run a lot at nights rather than the mornings. I don't want a beer before a run at 9pm...and don't feel like one after the run either.at some of the drunk stories in here. Of course, I'm not trying to lose weight so that's fine, but I must be eating a lot.

How many and how long are your Chase runs?Who's getting the biggest chunk and what does that look like? For some reason I have been worn out the last two days, though it is probably from driving the majority of 1100 miles on Monday. I slept 9 hours last night and still felt tired all morning, so tired that I took a 2 hour nap this afternoon. Tomorrow I am going to the gym for a nice slow 3 mile run, then 5 on Saturday, and 3 or 4 on Sunday. For a while I am going to try and get faster by doing speed runs.I am not worried about how far I can go as my Chase duties total only ~11.3 miles, and I know I can go out and do that tomorrow if I needed to.
Each runner runs three segments. The breakdown for each runner can be found on page 2 of this. I think Grue posted who is doing what legs on the Facebook page. I get #3 runner I believe, which is one of the easiest legs. How many and how long are your Chase runs?

Who's getting the biggest chunk and what does that look like?
I get 20 miles total, split into 7, 5, and 8 miles. Pat is also getting a big chunk - almost the same mileage with a bit tougher legs.'BassNBrew said:My two part theory

Abstaining from beer has never help me drop weight.
I used to drink mostly IPA's, and could easily gain/lose weight based on consumption. Once I moved to my new neighborhood, where 4 of my neighbors/friends all have kegerators, it became apparent that light beer was needed to maintain my girlish figure. Since the switch, my beer consumption doesn't affect my weight...much. Now, the resultant late night snacks do have an affect.
Not running/working out, while drinking and eating has me larger than I've been in a decade. = the burning of the calories is more important to me than the consumption of them.Good choice, you'll smoke those hills.Who let Gru off the hook? What are you looking at time wise...27 hours?Looks like they are real strict on the expected finish times. How do you figure out what you'll be doing in 60 degree weather when it's hotter than heck right now?'pigskinliquors said:Sand: Clemson?!! Gru: {whine, whine} "I'm gonna be 5 days post marathon and sore, stiff, and really needing a massage..." {/whine, whine}We estimate best case is 25 1/2. So 26+ is probably realistic. As far as finish times they want our best case 10k times to estimate from. I'm sure they have a good idea on the slowdown that typically occurs. I'm not too concerned about the finish times - they worry about being too fast for their expectations. We're not sandbagging those times and should come in about where expected or slightly slower. No biggie there.Good choice, you'll smoke those hills.Who let Gru off the hook? What are you looking at time wise...27 hours?Looks like they are real strict on the expected finish times. Very nice pm sent.Pfitz has several suggested plans for back-to-back marathons. Surely there's a 6 week schedule in there someplace. If he asks nicely, I might even email it to him.
Curious about the wide heart rate zone. My zone 4 is 158-167. This is a good substainable spot for 5k-8k distance. Zone 3 aka sweet spot is 148-157. Excellent place to train in. Anything over 167, especially 170 means blowup is coming inside 20 minutes.Given your belief in hr training, I would suggest ponying up for a metobolic/vo2 test and really nailing down your zones.Good to see you in cruise control mode during training, bodies well for you upcoming events.76 degrees and 84% humidity never felt so great. It's all relative, I guess...Did 8 with 4 @ LT today and had a lot of fun out there. I'm really in a groove this week. I feel like I have every pace at my disposal right now. 4LT miles were 174 HR avg at 8:06 pace. I tried to let my HR rattle around between 170-175 (LT is 159-176), but I let the last mile get away from me a bit at 178. HR training is a great tool to keep me in check. Before this, I would've totally ignored the rising HR and blasted through the last mile trying to go sub 8 (ego tripping fool). Instead, I kept the HR somewhat in check and actually felt refreshed after the 2 cool down miles.
Good luck - eye the prize brother. At least you got to the gym and did it - that's more than a lot of other people can sayYesterday was a mess for me. All day long I couldn't stay awake, that is until bed time. I was exhausted yet lay awake until after 2am. For some reason I awoke at 8am this morning feeling tired, so I decided to postpone the 3 miler. At about 9am I went out and spent an hour cutting the yard then sat around until about 2 pm. That is when I decided to go to the gym to run. I got the 3 miles done at a real slow pace of 11:08, and I could barely stand after it was over. I think it was mostly because my sleep routine has been way off lately causing me to get a lot less sleep than normal last night. I will know on Saturday when I go for 5 in the morning. Two days back on the diet and so far my will power has overcome my snacking habits, I hope I can keep it up.
The real pros here can answer your better.I guess it would depends on if you're REALLY serious about running long distance and keeping it up - in that case, my best guess would be that the suggestion is to get fitted for custom running shoes. If you think you might just be doing it as a supplemental thing for the biking, I think a standard pair that fits you comfortably would be fine to try out. I have a pair of Sauconys that I absolutely love and didn't get fitted for. this will sound weird, but just look at your feet, study them...figure out if you have a high arch or flat feet. I had extremely flat feet and kept going through running shoes like water until I realized it was because I had no arch.either way - I don't know #### in comparison to these dudes, so take it with a grain of salt and wait for one of the big dogs to weigh in.And good luck to youHey guys -I ditched my car about 3 weeks ago, and now I ride my bike everywhere. Commute to work is about 22 miles each way, and I've got to get there (and back). It's been great, I've just had to up my sleep time a lot. I want to start running on my days off to cross train. I need a pair of shoes. I'm sure this has been covered in here, but damn if I know how to figure out where it is. Do I just go to a running store (there's one about 5 miles from me) and talk to them, or is there something I need to know before I get started?
Definitely not serious about long distance running. I'm going to race cyclocross some amount this season, and running is great cross training for 'cross. I'm a bike fitter, the study the feet part doesn't sound weird at all. I've actually got tools to measure arch height at work. My trick? I pick a race I've run (or picture myself swimming across the lake at our cottage), and follow it along. I always fall asleep before I "finish" the race. -Reginald - I'd say wait until Saturday. Don't shy away from going to the track for some repeats, or go your hill and solely focus on some up and downs. You don't have to always run-run-run.-Proninja - yes, it would be good to go to the running store, especially for this first selection. More $$ doesn't necessarily mean a better shoe. They load the shoes up with a lot of padding and shock absorption. It really should fit like a glove when you pull it on.Yesterday was a mess for me. All day long I couldn't stay awake, that is until bed time. I was exhausted yet lay awake until after 2am.
