gruecd - best wishes this weekend! So you're our resident master of the mileage. Morning, nighttime, doubles ...you crank 'em out. But I believe your success this weekend will be due to the mind, not the miles. You're pushing a strong pace: your HM time will be within two minutes of your PR, and then you need to repeat it. You'll be getting into uncharted challenges here and need to be ready to withstand that level of pain and effort. Let me also say that you have talked a fair amount of pushing back the attempt to another city/another day if the weather wasn't ideal. You need to keep those "next time" thoughts at bay and go in with a 100% commitment to this being your race ...this being your moment of sub-3:00 glory ...this being your HTFU, no-holds-barred success. Fight for it. Make it happen. Then post more cowgirl pics.
Thanks, dude. And everybody else, too. I'm ready to do this. :football:

Nice evening out as we're getting down to 46 or so tonight. 7.5 miles tonight (just enough to get me to 120 miles this month). 8:01/mile, 157hr avg., 7:24 last mile. Now that's what I'm talking about.

Grue - Good luck in your race. Looking forward to meeting you and and everyone else in just a few days.

The cool front came through as promised. The temp was 4 degrees cooler than last week at 68, but the humidity was 46 points less at 50%. It felt like I was in heaven, and it was the first time in a while that I did not return home completely soaked.

I planned 4 miles and did 4 miles.

1-9:55

2-9:22

3-9:20

4-9:27

I was feeling it during the last mile and I thought I had slowed significantly, I guess I was wrong.

I did try the softstrap again for HR and while it seemed to work, I think it is still off a bit. I averaged 163 for the run, but it said I averaged 209 during the last mile.

132

157

159

209

Is that possible? I remember that 209 mile and it didn't feel like I was pushing that hard.

45* this morning...bit windy so the gloves were on.

Got 15 miles in...156 AVG HR 10:25/mile average.

Something was up with the garmin though and I did not get any lap splits...will have to check that.

Felt great...2 weeks til my half.

Now off to my son's soccer game, then his birthday party, while watching/paying attention to the Brewer game, then family here for dinner, then the Badgers tonight with some :banned:

Doing an 8k tomorrow...hoping to break 34 minutes. :bye:
:blackdot: ____________________________I got in a fantastic 10-miler this morning. It was supposed to be at something like LR pace, but I kept naturally drifting down to MP and it was feeling extremely easy, so I just went with it. It still felt super-easy even at the end. These 50-degree mid-morning temps are golden.
Ended up having a PR day. 32:41 good enough for 2nd in the 30-34M age group. :bowtie:

Thanks, I will take 70/50 any day and twice on Saturday.Speaking of twice on Saturday, I completed another double 30 minutes ago in 81 degrees, but with only 26% humidity. That made 7 miles total today.3 miles this evening in 28:031- 9:502- 9:143- 8:58I also broke in a new pair of shoes. They felt great but I expected them too, they are the exact model as my old ones. Bringing both pairs to Kentucky.

If you're local, come grab a bourbon or three with us after the race.

Thanks, and I can't wait to meet all of you. Right now I am going to try for 3 tomorrow morning, hopefully I will remember to run easy.We can both sit in that corner and commiserate about our old body aches and pains.

I got in all 3 this morning, though it could be because it was only 58 with 60% outside.

Finished in 29:02; meant to take it easy and did for the first mile.

10:02

9:28

9:25

I wore the HR monitor again and according to that my average max HR was 142, though the average HR was only 97. Something isn't registering correctly.

That was the last run until Birmingham on Wednesday. I am really looking forward to this trip.

Good luck to everyone racing today.

Special good luck to grue, I hope his race meets his expectations.

I ran a total of 3 times in september (spent the month at the national training center) for less than 10 miles. Figured I'd get my starting point this morning, so went 5k out, at 22:20 felt good so I figured I'd see what my 10k time would be; 45:20 finished the 7.1 mile loop just under 52:00 now my stomach and legs are kicking my ###

Got the first email update...grue started at 7:32.

Will be interesting getting these...though, I supposed my wife won't be happy if I keep getting the phone out to check race updates while in Church.

I'm catching the later service ...got an email - he passed the halfway point at about a 6:50:xx pace. A 3 hour marathon is a 6:53/mile pace! Looking good at the halfway point!! Dang, that's fast.

And, took a second off his overall pace between mile 7 and 13.1. Saw a FB post that he expected a tailwind in the 2nd 1/2. :football:

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

 :pickle:

Seems childish to even post my info in lieu of Grue's incredible achievement.

In any event, my marathon is two weeks out, so I'm in taper mode.

Did 13 miles yesterday at 8:51/mile pace and an average HR of 145/bpm. It was pretty easy and just cruised throughout.

Have to do 8 next weekend then off to Baltimore for October 15.

Have a great day!

Seriously awesome work, grue! We all know how hard you worked for this, and it's seriously inspiring to see it all come together for you, even for those of us who are never going to sniff a time like this. Savor it.
