Surgeon confirmed inguinal hernia.Scheduling the surgery soon and likely out for the Country Music half. Not too down about. Want to get it over with and get back going again.
Just curious if this bothered you to the point you're getting the surgery.. I have had a hernia for about a year & barely notice it. Doctor told me to get it fixed when it started to hurt..

After he talked to me..>I probably have had this for a little while longer than I had noticed. But in the past week or so...it has felt like a pulling on my upper leg/lower abdomen...bulge noticable and could...well, push stuff back in.Mostly when running.Made some running painful and a bit of pain after.Affecting me enough to take care of it...and with my wife and I talking about moving in the next year, wanted to get it done as soon as possible.

cool - thanks.. I know I have to do something as well but just waiting until it really starts bothering me.. I don't run as much as most here that is probably why I haven't thought about it much..good luck & let me know how it goes..

Good luck, Sho nuff and great attitude. I am a big baby when I get hurt.

What were you feeling exactly? I suspect that I have been dealing with a form of hernia (self-diagnosed) on and off for almost a year, but not exactly sure what the symptoms are. Here's what I'm feeling: ok first, I had a femoral stress fracture in my left hip two years ago. About a year ago, I started noticing pain in the RIGHT hip/groin area. I thought it was from favoring the right side as my left side strenghtened. It's more noticeable when I do high mileage and speed. In fact, it kind of went away the end of 2012 because my mileage was way down and I was doing no speed. But it's back now as my mileage and speed have picked up. I kinda feel it when running but not enough to really bother me, especially after warming up for a bit. It's after that I really feel it. Sometimes I will get random sharp pains in the groin and cojones  and when I cough or sneeze it really hurts.

I hate going to the doctor and forced time off so I've kind of been ignoring this. It's bearable for now and I don't know if it's really a hernia if it comes and goes.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Sho Nuff!
I second that. Hopefully this is just a very small blip on life's radar.
:goodposting: Good luck Sho Nuff, get it done and get back to running soon!
Thats the plan right now.Get it done...get back on into shape and focus on some fall 5 and 10k races.
Perfect attitude. Good luck and quick recovery.
GL sho. Am I the only one seeing his avatar switched with the good posting smilie? Pretty freaky.

Some "pressure" in a way just above my twig and berries on the left side. During some runs could almost feel a "pulling" type pain down into my leg.Very noticable bulge formed where you could actually push stuff back in.Always had a small "bulging" there. His thought was I always have had a tiny hernia there that never bothered me, but it opened more and things were pushing through more recently after something.

All this hernia talk is making me queasy

My trail question of the day, shoes. I typically run in neutral NB 1080's. I have a pair of Stability Asics GT 2000's that have just never gotten along with my feet. They turn my arch into a throbbing soreness of meat when I wear them on the roads. They are like brand new with only about 120 miles on them, would those work on the trails better than the NB? I'll hang up and listen.
I'd never run in the stability shoe if I'm definitely a neutral runner. Keep'm for around the house or whatever.Get yourself a pair of thesefor trails.
+1 for the Casscadias, I have two pair and they are, by far, the most comfortable and supportive shoes I've ever had. AND, at $71, that is a great price. By nature, trail shoes are a stability shoe, not so much with a built up heel like a running shoe, but rather how the entire shoe is constructed to keep down ankle rolls, etc. Actually, just wearing a trail specific shoe may help with the knee issues too.
I also have a pair of Cascadia 7s, and really like them. While I run mostly in Hokas now, I rotate in the Cascadia's at least once a week.
I tried like hell to find an extra wide pair of Brooks trail shoes today only to discover they don't really make 4E shoes for what I'm looking for so I checked NB. Bought a pair of NB MT510's which I can't imagine will hold up well but at least they will fit and for $50 I'll roll the dice. Thanks for the advce guys, will let you know how they turn out.

Nice 15-miler tonight. Averaged 7:51/mile, and all miles were sub-8 except for two miles directly into the wind.

Just an easy 7-mile recovery run tomorrow...

Always had a small "bulging".
Story of tri-man's life... ;)

Seriously, sho nuff, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Being injured sucks. Makes me seriously intolerable.
I appreciate all the kind words (the small bulge thing was just teed up there nicely wasn't it?).In talking with the people I was going to run with and raise money for...going to help out and volunteer with them on race day to help out the rest of the runners.

Especially a few of the first timers.

Between the recent surge of random penis insertions (that sounds even worse than it is) and talk of triman's bulge, this place is getting a little junk obsessed. I'd almost rather read an entire page of tips on how to breathe on the left side while open water swimming....almost.

Bout to go run for the first time in like 10 days. Hopefully my leg doesn't fall off.
Good luck! Ease into it
Did 5 miles at around an 8 minute pace. The good news is that my stride felt normal...bad news is that my leg just felt a little sore all over. Good news is that my leg didn't feel too sore after and isn't that sore right now. Gonna run an easy 3 tomorrow and then sunday is the half marathon. Ready or not...

I have a couple page dissertation started on this. I'll relay when it gets polished up. I know you're dying inside to read this, but art like this takes time.

Agreed! But Hang10 ...don't get too stubborn about finishing the race if things go poorly. We don't want you losing the whole season just as it's getting started!

cp20 test today. Can't say it was fun but hit 300 watts on the nose. That's a 13.6% improvement over 9 weeks.

Out of the gate at 293 for the first 10 minutes. Nudged it up to 296 over the next 5 minutes. Held on for dear life for the 4.5 minutes at 296. Dropped the hammer over the last 30 seconds to get to 300 with 2 seconds left ont he clock.

Just slightly.

Went out yesterday for my first run post-50K....and had to abort. My right achilles was really hurting, which was unexpected because it didn't hurt at all on Saturday (or before or since). So after about 3/4 of a mile of it not getting better, I stopped and walked back to the start. Headed home, threw on some ice, some KT tape, and will check in with my PT on Friday.

Obviously a little concerned with a 50M coming up in less than a month now. This is the injury that shut me down in 2009, so crossing my fingers and hoping it's just some post-race inflammation that will chill out in the next few days.

You (obviously) did the right thing. GL and :fingerscrossed:

Home from work today with pink eye, of all things. When I hear "pink eye," the first thing that comes to mind is the scene from "Knocked Up." Sheesh.

Anyway...do you chumps want me to set up an NCAA bracket again this year (just for fun)?

Ok, doc said take it easy til surgery...but have been going nuts not doing anything so went out for a very easy 3 miles.
You should probably do what your doctor tells you. For the record, I would love to have enough time off to start feeling antsy again.
Well...true...he was more saying don't go out and throw down a 30 mile week or big long runs or anything fast (not that I go fast anyway).Took it easy...any discomfort that got bad and I would have stopped.

To the FFA injury ward:

sho nuff -- Count me in with the people who say to do what your doctor tells you to do. If your hernia doesn't get any worse, you should be back out there hitting the pavement in a few weeks. Don't do anything stupid that sets you back just to get in a measley 3 miles.

duck -- My uneducated guess is that this is almost certainly just some random post-race thing. I've never done a 50K, but I know post-marathon people routinely feel pain where they've never felt pain before. You were smart to call it a day when you did though. Good luck.

gruecd -- Pink eye? WTF? Do you work in a day care facility or something?

Thanks. Did 3.5 at an easy pace today. Stride felt great but I was getting some hip pain. 3 days of rest, stretching and ibuprofen and I should be ready to run sunday. Goal time is out the window but I should be able make it respectable if all goes well.

Yikes! Will you be OK for your race? (I've never had pink eye, so I don't know how bad it is.)
Oh, yeah. It's nothing. Minor discomfort, that's all.Regarding the race, it's supposed to snow tomorrow and be cold on race morning, so there's a good chance I won't be "racing" it. Might just do it as a good MP training run.

Good luck to sho nuff and duck. I had to miss Houston this year due to a minor achilles issue. I've had it before and generally I am looking at two weeks to be back to normal. I have been very cautious with them so I have no experience with trying to work through it to make a race. Hopefully yours is just post-race stuff.

I ran ten this morning, very slowly. Almost an 11:00 pace. I am still not feeling great since New Orleans. Sometimes it takes a long time to fully recover from a race and I guess this is one of those times. I will take Friday off and try a 20-miler Saturday. I will cut it short if I am not feeling it. I still have six weeks to get ready for Illinois.

Gru...aren't you a finance guy? If so, I guess you have plenty of stories about adult day care.

 BnB, Sand, liquors, 2Young ..and others that appreciate a great story. The WSJ had an article today about Taylor Phinney toughing out a rather impossible bike leg of a race in Italy ...all the time, using his father (a bike legend now fighting Parkinson's) as motivation. Neat stuff. Many riders quit the leg, so Phinney was well off the back, riding for hours by himself - but finished. On the super-tough hills where others walked, Phinney recalled his dad's Tour de France teams making pacts to decline pushes, so he did his own challenging hills on his own.

Here's a link to some of the detail from Velonews (which doesn't present the human interest angle as well as the WSJ):

Good Stuff Tri!!!

After my long runs (for me) I have been getting really sore behind my left knee. It's usually sore for 24-36 hours and sometimes painful to walk. Is this due to lack of warmup before and penis stretching afterwards? I do both, but maybe it's not enough.

Or maybe it's form?

http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/03/news/acquarone-tirreno-stage-6-went-too-far_277610 :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: The backside of Beech Mountain where I occasionally train has a 100m section that averages 28% before dropping back down to a measely 20% (Pinnacle Ridge is calling Sand). I'd say it should be doable for them, but I don't do it on day 6 in a 200km race.

All this whining and crying is a good sign that they are not as doped up as before.

Dude...I thought that weather was right in your wheelhouse.
For racing, cold like 35-40° is absolutely perfect. The wind chill on Saturday morning is supposed to be 8°. Too cold.
If you ever invite me to do any events with you, hopefully someone will remind me to say no. You must have taken a dump on the Patron Saint of Weather's momma.gl this weekend.

Eye on the prize duck. Goal is WS100 qualifying.Still dealing with the hip issue on my end. Ran 5k easy tonite. Pain was a 2 on the 1-10 scale.
