Some one in the tornado thread heard from Sand and said he is good.
I am good. My worst storm was the early morning storm, which hit my church (put the steeple through the roof). We have lots of trees down, luckily none on my house. The worst storm (the Tuscaloosa one) passed about 5-10 miles north of my house. Power is out, but that is minor. Feeling pretty blessed today.Yesterday was crazy, and this morning I spent my time checking in on all my folks. Luckily everyone in my office seems to have escaped well. Thanks for checking in on me. One hell of a scary day.
Glad you are ok

Whassup, everybody?! Apparently I'm the only one running around here....

Did 8 miles with strides yesterday in the cold and rain. Felt good, except for the fact that I couldn't feel my hands by the time I was done. SRD today, but we're supposed to have temps in the 60s, so I'm hoping to get out on the bike for 20ish miles after work. Tomorrow is the Crazylegs 8K in Madison, and I think I'm going to do it progression-run style. Start out relatively easy, then work my way down towards GHMP (6:35-6:40) at the end.

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday.....

Well, I had been running.

Did my interval work on Monday (5.5 total with the mile warm up, mile finish, 2 miles of intervals and jogging in between). 3 miles on Wednesday and was going to do 7 tomorrow.

However...been sore most of the week and the last 2 days its been bad. Sharp pain up my lower left leg. Shin issues in the past. If they don't feel better after rest over the weekend I will be hitting up the doc and hoping its not a stress fracture.

Taking it easy and doing weight work the rest of this week, may log some miles on my bike this weekend. But going to lay off running for a bit.

Sucks as I was hoping to hit a 5k on the 14th and each mile was starting to feel easier to run.

Man that's flyin' for HMP. I'd kill for that to be my 5K pace. I did 5 recovery yesterday right after that nasty front blew thru and sweat what felt like a 5 gallon bucket of sweat. Gotta love those 100% humidity runs. Of course we finally have gorgeous spring weather here today too and I'm on a SRD.

This weekend I have 4 @ GMP and then 12 (which is my final double digit run). I'm not going to know what to do with myself as this taper progresses.

Unless it's been happening for a while, I doubt it's a stress fracture. When I was having shin issues when I was ramping up my mileage, I was able to run thru it by icing every day, wearing the Zesna sleeve after icing, and cycling between 2 fresh pairs of shoes. It took about a week to be pain-free, but it's been smooth sailing since. How many miles do you have on your current pair of shoes? IIRC, you have the same Gel Cumulus 12's that I got, right?

So......a bunch of my friends are doing NYC this fall. I ran it in 2009, and I really didn't think the race was anything special, but I'm kinda bummed that I won't be there to hang out with all my friends. I posted something to this effect on my Facebook wall, and now a buddy of mine who works for ING is checking to see if he can get me a bib.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but if he comes through, it would mean doing Lakefront on 10/2, NYCM on 11/6, and either CIM on 12/4 or (hopefully) Houston on 1/15. Fortunately, I know enough people that I could find a place to crash in NYC, and the bib would be free, so other than airfare (and food and drinks), I could totally do that one on the cheap.

Shaping up to be an interesting year....

Thanks. I hope it's not just wishful thinking. My current PR pace is 6:42, and I'd like to think that I'm in at least a little better shape than that right now, but who knows?!
Of course we finally have gorgeous spring weather here today too and I'm on a SRD.
Same thing here. That's why I figured I'll just get out on my bike instead.

I got in another 3 miler last night. When I went out it was only 89, felt like a cool wave compared to Tuesday. I did manage to slow it down a but, 30:07, and I felt great when I finished.

I took today off work, I needed a break, and I needed to work in the garden. My cross training today consisted of shoveling a cubic yard of dirt/manure compost mix from my truck onto my garden. I also planted new tomato and cantaloupe plants.

I am running my 4th and last 6 miler tomorrow morning, the 7's start next week. I am thinking of adding a mile to one of my weekday runs. The more I run in the heat, the easier it is getting.

Well...my shins have given me off and on problems here and there. Never major...the worst it got I took a week off and did more biking. But they never felt the way I had them in the past.I doubt they are stress fractures...but they worry me a bit as the pain to just walk is there as soon as I wake up. Its a different feeling than I have had before.Shoes have not had that much logged on them at this point...I don't think its that at all.Going to give it more rest, ice...and more bike time than running time and see how it goes.

So, I have mentioned that the temps for my afternoon runs have been warmish. This morning mother nature through me a very nice surprise, 53 degrees, 40 degrees cooler than my Tuesday run. I went out for 6 and new if I didn't watch it I would start way too fast.

1- 11:00

2- 10:26

3- 10:34

4- 10:23

5- 9:57

6- 9:21

I did run an extra .8 and was going at 8:45 for that. Next week is my first 7 and not a chance that the temps will be this low again.

I am one of the Chasers, I believe that 9 or 10 of the 12 post here.

After a couple days off, I got biked to the community center and swam last night. 6m bike, 1000 yd swim, 6m bike. Wanted to tack on a short run just to get all three events in but was rapidly running out of daylight.

Did a quick 4 miler in 33 minutes tonight. I've been using my vibram five fingers on the shorter runs; I really like them! I started out doing less than a mile in them but have gotten used to them pretty well now.

I haven't checked in here in a while, but have been following you guys a bit. Seriously, you all amaze me. I'll be doing the Broad Street Run tomorrow (10 miles). Missed 3 weeks of training due to a mystery foot ailment and have only been back running for about 10 days now. It messed me up. I'm just hoping to meet last year's time now (about a 9:42 pace...I know, pretty slow). But I guess when it's all said and done I have to figure I did more in the AM (running 10 miles at any pace) than most people do on a given day, so I can keep my head up there. I'm going to shoot for a half marathon this year to challenge myself so hopefully I do well enough tomorrow to keep that fire burning. Anyway, thanks again for helping to keep me motivated to push further, even though I don't chime in much.

30,000 runners! I was shocked to hear they sold that run out so quickly with it being so big. I really wanted to do this one but it just didn't fit my schedule. I'm jealous. If you're able to do 10 you can no doubt get a half in.

I went MTBing yesterday and yikes it was a little bit harder than I expected. I didn't eat enough before riding so I think that affected my performance.

I have two events this month:

6 Hours of Stony Team Event May 14th

Stony Creek Xtri May 28th

Hey, everybody. Crazylegs was solid yesterday. I averaged right around 6:40 pace for the 8K, so not quite race pace, but it was a good workout--just like I planned. Probably would've been a little bit faster, but there was a stiff headwind that made for a pretty difficult stretch of running in the 4th mile. Legs weren't quite all the way back, but I feel pretty confident that I should be in tip-top race shape for GB in a couple of weeks.

Hoping that tri-man is having a good run this morning at Big Sur. Race started at 6:45 Pacific Time, so he should be more than halfway done right now. Supposed to be a great course, so I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

Heading out here shortly for 10-11 miles in the wind. Have a great day!!

BLISTERS!!!!

I think I'm answering my own question here, but... When ever I run outside my normal zone (3 miles) I get a blister on first my right foot than my left foot if I keep pushing it. Today I ran 4.5 miles and at 3.6 miles I felt the blister starting to form.

Is this because I'm not used to those distances and I just need to keep upping my milage and my feet will become accostum to it stopping blisters from forming or could it be something else

Gear: Newtons & Asics Gel shoes and I am using good running socks.

Ummm, yeah. So tri-man set a new PR today. He negative split the course and finished in 3:37. Less than two weeks after Boston.

Congrats, my man! :pickle:

PR'ing is awesome. Doing it 2 weeks after running Boston is just phenominal!!! Well done tri!

Had a good weekend, which consisted of my last pace run (4mi) and my last double digit run (12mi). Not much noteworthy other then I'm now thru taper week #1. Feeling great...

The big news of the weekend was my wife completing the trail 5K yesterday (her first in 10 years or so). Apparently the route was completely different from when I previously ran it and it was gnarly. When I saw the overall winner cross the line in 20:00+, I knew my wife was in for some hell. She said it was tricky footing, muddy, and wicked hilly. All in all she finished in 38:33 when she had been running right at 30:00 on her previous 3 mile runs. Super proud of her for some quality HTFU.

That's great, both for you and your wife. Are the temps going to be relatively cool on the 15th?

Thats insane that a person can run that well just two weeks out from another marathon.
Seriously. And not just any other marathon, but Boston, a course that's notoriously tough on your body.I mean, I ran 3:19 at NYC '09 three weeks after running 3:06 in Chicago. I thought that was impressive. This is way better.

Don't know just yet. I will be watching with one eye closed. Average for that day is low of 51 and high of 76. We start at 7am so should be ok at least for the start. :fingerscrossed:I'm still :jawdrop: about tri. Can't wait to hear what he has to say.

Awesome run Tri-Man. Wow. Just unreal.

MY UPDATE --

Yesterday -- gorgeous weather, sunny, high around 70. Went out to do 4 miles right after lunch. Well got to the 3 mile mark at 8:20/mile pace. Unfortunately, this was too close to lunch so I had to stop and walk the last mile. I gagged several times and spit up mucous and phlegm (sp?). It was nasty.

Today -- my long run, so I extended it to 7.7 miles at 8:23 pace. I really turned it on the last mile or so. Legs didn't feel great so I'm pleased with the time. My legs are shot though tonight.

Tomorrow -- OFF!

My small update:

Still hitting the pool hard. Got in almost 40,000yds this month. Planning on 12k+ the next couple weeks. I rigged up a holder for my GPS and captured parts of an OWS on Saturday. While not futzing with the GPS I was holding 1:23/100 or so out in the open water. Not awful considering it was right after my ride.

Biked 40 miles on Saturday (215w avg.). Went out for a recovery ride today and averaged 236w over 18 miles. Whoops - not exactly recovery. Felt good, though.

I completely agree with this. I wrote on his wall last night that this was one of the more impressive things that I have read about in quite awhile from someone on this board (no offense to anyone). What a way for him to end his marathon career. Can't wait to hear this report.

As for my update:

Yesterday, I ran the Flying Pig Half Marathon (Cincinnati). This was my first half and I had a great time. I love the distance. I ended up with a 1:37:03 about 7:19/mile. I was elated with this time as I really did not do any speed work at all for this only ran hills to strenghten my legs. It was raining of course, but not that bad and I have been getting used to running in the rain this April. Overall, a good day followed by a nice after party at my house. When I pulled in the driveway my boys and wife put up signs for me and blew up a bunch of balloons for me. They had a great time watching it on TV.

I wondered how my decision of stepping back was really going to affect me this spring, but turns out it was just what I needed. I am pumped and ready to begin another tough training session this summer to get ready for a Boston attempt in the fall. And, of course, the Bourbon Chase. I promise to try and post more updates out here. Partly because I have missed the board a bit and partly because it serves as a good motivator.

Have a great day all.

Well, after a few days of rest and weight work...and a break in the rain yesterday I headed off and did 15 miles on the bike around the neighborhood are. Felt good and the legs feel great afterward.

Might give them a few more days rest before running again. But the rest has definitely helped.

 So at the height of his career he selfishly calls it quits? What about the devoted fans, hangers-on and stalkers? This smells like Robert Smith all over again.

Oh, and :pickle: for Mr. Brown. 1:37 is smokin', man.

So, yeah, I did this the other day. While power was out I was trying to get everything situated and ended up grabbing a $5 Little Ceaser's large pizza on the way home. By the time I got home it was gone. :bag: Then in my brilliance I decided to go for my scheduled run. Started cramping pretty quick and barely got back in time...

Wow 1:37 is rollin'. Congrats!!

Man, am I fat and slow. On the bright side I did churn out a 10-miler on Sunday. And I did it without music - I only started running with an iPod recently and am finding it not conducive to success. I feel disassociated from my body when I have the music on and can't hear my breathing or my footfalls, and then inevitably end up running way too fast until I crash.

So yesterday I was back out there without music and did a good job of regulating my effort. I think I might just save the music for tempo/pace runs that require a maximum effort and go without it for everything else.

PMB, great job on the HM. You have set yourself up for a great marathon training season. Tri-man - way to go out on top like Jordan vs. the Jazz. Just don't come back as a Wizard.

I texted him him my congrats and noted that this confirms that he is most certainly a robot because humans, especially those north of 50 should just not be accomplishing stuff like this.PMB, KILLER 1/2, Congrats to you too.

Still jammed at work with little time to surf the net at all. Ran my trail 1/2 marathon yesterday in a VERY SLOW 2:27 (slowest time in three tries). Interesting, is that I did this one Gallo-Walking, doing 10 on, 2 off and only ended up 2:12 slower that the first time I ran it, running the whole way (still, almost 9:00 slower than last years time). It was a slow track due to recent rains as well. Small mental break over, back to work......

Grue, with your proposed racing schedule, how long will it be before you attempt one of those 50 marathons in 50 days kind of stunts?

Ned, are you getting antsy yet?

As for me, I took it relatively easy last week. Mostly slow recovery-type runs with 24 miles for the week.

I was messing around with my wife's Garmin 305 and the HR monitor. I'm not quite sure how accurate it is but it had me around 130 for the easy runs but if I picked up the pace to say a 10K pace it had me at 180. I wonder if it would have exploded if I got it down to a sprinting pace?

I've been back and forth with the tunes deal and used to feel the same way. I parked the iphone until recently. I'm now the opposite and only run with them on my 12+ runs. Those runs I don't really need to hear my breathing since it's such an easy pace. The music helps as a distraction for me on the really long runs. Glad to see you getting back in the saddle!

 Man I've been antsy for a month now. I've not been able to sleep in for a solid 3-4 weeks. I'm bright-eyed at 7am no matter if its a workday or weekend. Although today was the first day I really noticed a difference in how I feel. Monday's have been historically rough to where I'm hurting going up/down the steps for the better part of the day. Today I noticed I'm running up the steps and feel really fresh. When we were at my wife's trail 5K this weekend, her parents were there to participate in the walk along with some of their friends. One of them was a runner (in his early 60's) who was a big marathoner/ultra guy. My FIL told him about my upcoming marathon and we got to talking. His very first comment to my wife was 'look out for the fun when he's in the heart of the taper'. I got a big old fat  from the wife. As supportive as she's been throughout all this, I think she's ready for this to be over so I can shut the heck up about it.

That HR monitor is :moneybag: . I've hit 190+ a few times now in 5K or 10K races (which is a little scary). I'm a huge fan and watch my HR data like a hawk. It's definitely a great tool for training.

I'll have to start wearing it for all my runs over the next few weeks and see what kinds of numbers I'm getting. Unless my max heart rate is over 200 I must be doing something wrong because it had me in the high 160s-low 170s when running at my marathon pace (although this was Sunday afternoon and it was a little warm out)

Oh, and my other update was that I signed up for my half marathon in the fall. At least the first one I am planning to do.

The middle half in Murfreesboro. Should be a nice flat course. October 15th. And Im already looking forward to it.

Everyone's going to be different, but I fully expect to be in the 160 range when I run the marathon. If I break 170, I'll get nervous and probably dial it back.
