Ran a 10k in June (6 Viewers)

Not sure about a nerve issue warming up, sorry. My fracture was detected so we didn't need to explore other options.

Called in sick today from work. Only the 2nd time in my life but both have been this year! I had severe muscle aches last night and no pain-relievers in the house. I barely slept. I was planning to make it in to work but fainted in the shower getting ready and felt like that was enough of a sign to stay home. Bought some Tylenol that did wonders with the muscle aches and slept today until 2:00. I'm feeling much better now but I have a fairly bad pain in the ### where I must of landed when I fainted. What should I do for that? RICE?
WTF  That is not good. You may want to see a doctor if you have insurance.

I have insurance, but no need. I'm fine now besides a sore ###. It was just a combination of being sick, lack of sleep and my body trying to fight off the muscle aches for so long.

To answer the question. Used to play soccer, so muscle bruises like this were common. I'd find RICE to not work well. I much preferred to move the muscle around a bit rather than let it sit and get tight. Light (and I mean light) exercise using that muscle group for me tends to break the bruise down quicker.

9 miles this aft at 8:19 average pace. Hot yoga and another 15 miles tomorrow. Much-needed (and highly anticipated) rest day on Wednesday.
What is hot yoga?
Google "TheChive" and "yoga pants" and then report back. That may not be what grue is talking about though.
Mmmmmm. Yoga pants. I really like that the wearing of these has been a trend on campus  __________________________

My Update:

I completed a full year of P90x last week. It was a full year of zero injuries, I'm in the best shape I've been in, in approximately 30 years (since H.S.), and am getting stronger with every workout. The best indicator of my gains are in the initial lifting workout (Back and Chest). I'm doing more than 100 more push-ups alone in this workout, than I could when I started. I'm only 6 pounds heavier right now, than what I thought my ideal running weight was (170), though all of my measurements (except waist) are significantly larger. My typical schedule has been:

Sunday: Back/Chest (odd weeks); Chest/shoulders/triceps (even weeks)

Monday: 60 minutes cardio (run, bike, Plyo or elliptical) and Ab Ripper

Tuesday: Shoulders/arms (odd weeks); Back/biceps (even weeks)

Wednesday: 60 minutes cardio (run, bike, plyo or elliptical) and Ab Ripper

Thursday: Always Legs and Back

Friday: Rest day or 60 minutes cardio (depends on if I go to Happy Hour

Saturday: Core Synergics and Cardio (hopefully a long bike ride)

I like that P90x gives me exact workout times, so it is easier to schedule/fit in; but I miss the freedom of just getting out and running. I still don't feel good if I run more than 5 miles, but am dealing with it. The elliptical causes zero pain, but is boring as hell, and cycling is difficult to fit in on weeks that I have my girls (every other week).

Opted for an extra hour of sleep this morning instead of yoga. I'll go tomorrow morning instead.

At that point now with 6 weeks to go 'til race day where I always end up super tired, both mentally and physically. Just gotta keep grinding...

15 later today, and my right hip and hamstring are both tight/sore. Gonna download a couple of podcasts, take it nice and easy, and look forward to the SRD tomorrow....while dreading the 12/7T on Thursday.

Nice work on the track, koby, and how nice of you to grace us with your presence, liquors!

Trackwork in the rain this afternoon. 12x400 with 200m jog rest in between898787868786868486817573
True Cheetah work there at the end!
Just throwing this out there, but you seem to have been running mostly 5Ks. With that kind of speed would you entertain the idea of running a quick mile or 1500? (not sure if this is an option for you). Might help to change things up a little bit and I find that I tend to race better at my main event/distance after some under-distance racing.

Thanks, but I'm in no shape to be running short races, either. That was the first time I was on the track in about 5 months. I've heard that there are some all comer track races around here in the late spring/summer so it's definitely something I am going to entertain once I get more under my belt. The 5ks have beena good way to 1) get me motivated again and 2) get good speed workouts in.

Man I'd kill to find something like this around my way. I'd almost entertain ditching this distance stuff if there were regular track meets. Racing 1500-3000m would be a blast.

Ended up with 226 miles for February, my biggest month since last September, when I believe I hit 300 miles. Might be pushing that number again in March....How'd everyone else do?
130 for me, 2nd highest month of the past year behind the 147 in December. I would have liked to have squeezed in a few more miles but a weekend away for Valentine's Day kept me from a long run (but I did incorporate some serious "cross training" that weekend). I am happy to have knocked out two 20 milers in February, which gives me five 18-20 mile runs during the past 11 weeks.Easing into my 50K this weekend with a massage followed by a 4 miler on trails yesterday, and a 6 miler on trails today. Figure I'll do 2-4 flat miles on Thursday morning, then Friday it's up to Auburn, CA, to check in and get ready for Saturday!

I see there is a running thread here. Cool. I just ran my ninth marathon in New Orleans 2/24 in 4:16;32, my second best. I will begin training for number ten (Illinois Marathon 4/27) as soon as I feel recovered. I am 49 and have been running since '07.I look forward to being part of the group.
Welcome! As I can attest from the last several years, the brackets start to thin out at 50+. Do you have a marathon time goal (e.g., to get under 4:00?)? The Illinois marathon should be a flat course.
I only run flat races! I live on the Louisiana Coastal plain and we have no hills here at all, so I try to stick to flat ones. I PRd at Illinois last year 4:12;52, but it's not as flat as New Orleans or Houston which I have also run multiple times. I am seeking a 4:10 for now and will re-evaluate goals if I can make it. My shorter race times suggest I should do better in marathons (1:45 half PR), but I don't have the endurance. I currently run about 40-50 mpw and peak around 60 for races. I would like to up the miles but it is getting harder to find time. I turn 50 in June and I am looking for a marathon to celebrate it.
If you just ran a marathon and plan to run another in April and another in June, you're not giving yourself time to train properly to fix that endurance problem. What specific training plans have you followed in the past? Also, are you really maxing mileage during race weeks? You should be resting more.
I realize I need an extended period of high mileage running to fix the endurance problem. But I wanted to get some races in this spring. (I have been running 1-3 marathons per year for the last few years.) I think I stated it poorly when I said I maxed at 60ish for races. I usually taper for three weeks, two weeks when I am cramming in races like this spring. My peak mileage is 2-3 weeks prior. I have used Higdon intermediate plans in the past. Now I am doing my own plans that fit my schedule, with one speed day per week. I average 40-50 per week and ramp up the month or so before a race. Someone asked where I am. I am near Lake Charles, LA, in the SW corner of the Bayou State.

Positively brutal workout yesterday...feel great today.

Full sprint for 15 seconds, brief walk, light jog for 10 seconds - repeat for a mile. Did a modified version of my usual circuit, longer breaks though since I am mixing with a sprint workout too. Repeated above on the way home. Tried to match my time but was one sprint (15 seconds) short. Goal for next time.

Decent 10 miler on Monday followed by a fast 2 mile walk. Yesterday I felt slight discomfort in my outside upper hip / pelvic area. On the 3rd one mile repeat it went from annoying to excuriating. Feels like I bruise the outside point part. Any suggestions? I'm thinking IT band. I have bike class in an hour and will give it a go.

MAC - a workout I'd read about some time ago was 30 seconds hard; 30 seconds easy ...similar to what you were doing. The HR takes most of the 30 second recovery to come back down before the next push. Either way - tough stuff.beer - good for you doing the repeats! Keep at it, and compare times a few months from now ..you'll be very pleased with the progress, I'm sure. Did you focus on form during the 400s? A good (fore)foot plant and full leg rotation? I.e., don't overreach the stride as a means of going faster.

liquors - what a great year of training. :buffdaddy:

Hey, Juxt - have you recovered?

Sounds like IT band to me too, although I've never had those issues. My wife has them all the time, always on the point of her hip, not down at the knee. It could also be bursitis, as there are several bursa in that area. Nice workout, MAC. Just curious as to where you got that workout?

Almost. I'm planning on running tonight for the first time. I think 15 miles are scheduled. Hopefully the roads will be clear.
I flip-flopped my schedule, so 15 for me today, too. I've got plans at 6:00, so I'm gonna sneak out of work early to get it done. These mid-week MLRs are a PITA to schedule....
They're definitely killer. Pushing mine out to tomorrow thanks to work/family schedules and this Nor'easter that's howling through. Drives me crazy, but its not the end of the world.

Can you guys recommend some shoes? How about Nike Free Run 3?
Everyone's feet and running styles are different so it's almost impossible to make a good recommendation over the penis internet. You are best off finding a local running store and being professionally fitted.

Good shoe. I've got a pair and sometime use them for runs under 6 miles or so. Mostly just use them for crosstraining at the gym. You might want a bit more cushioning for longer penis runs.

Hit up the recommended shoe wear section of the Ministry of Funny Walks website. I'm sure they have something.

MRI!
"Hey, doc, I guy on the intrawebz told me that I might have hairline crack in my femur...so could we skip everything you think it might be and get me scheduled for a MRI and bonescan. "TIA
"Hey, doc, any chance we can get an MRI just to rule out a fracture? I know you don't think that's what it is, but it would make me feel better knowing for sure."

Are zero drop shoes good for running?

ie: Merrell

I'm new to the game. penis

How much goes getting an MRI cost these days? A few grand?

About a grand. Plus your specialist cost to intrepret it.

We're here for that ..d'oh. He just needs to post a pic (or create a cool-looking diagram via keyboard characters) and we'll determine if it's a fracture or not. No. Charge.
I'm so cheap I'd probably do that. My leg would have to be turning purple and starting to fall off before I'd spend a rack for someone to take high dollar polaroids for 15 minutes.gb you guys with good insurance plans...my $600 a month plan has a rack deductible excluding co-pays before going 80/20.
