Ran a 10k in June (5 Viewers)

No runs, but back in the pool this morning (indoors, of course) ...felt good.

We're waiting to see if gruecd does his 14 mile run this weekend.

Where's floppo???

Read Carmichael's Training/Diet book this week. Stocked up on beans...a long run isn't in the cards for me right now as I'm manufacturing my own butt butter.

well... started running 12/31. goal = 10k april 6th in 55min.

started off 12/31 telling myself I was going to run a mile. made it half way before my lungs about exploded on the road. :goodposting: stopped for a solid 5-10min and ran back, or at least until my lungs felt like they were going to explode again.

since then steadily running x3 per week, with a short run on wednesday, good distance on monday, and my long run on saturday. Since its supposed to be a balmy 31 degrees and snowing in NC tomorrow, I ran my Saturday run a day early. I've worked up to today running 2.8 miles (of my 3 goal) before I started walking. I walked the last .2 cause I started getting lightheaded. mental note to drink more water the day before and morning of runs.

if it weren't for my ipod nano and nike+ thingy, combined with a training schedule i made for myself, I don't think I would have gotten this far.

ran 3 in the freeeeeeeeezing cold tonite

w/ wind chill it was -8

first 10 minutes i thought i might turn around cause it was so freaking cold. as it was my face is still red 2 hours later and my thighs still feel cold.

:pickle:

I ran about 6.4 tonight in a freezing cold 58 degrees. I barely made it through without freezing off my cajones.

ETA - I think the wind chill was 57.8. BRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry, I just could not resist the chance to mock your cold weather. If it really bothers you then move to Florida. It worked for me.
it's not so bad. we just stay out of it.tomorrow is looking like -25 to -30 with the wind chill. probably not gonna leave the couch.

See pic of said lungs in BnB's post 6011. :bye:  Way to stick with it! You're making good progress.

Don't forget the northerners get their own back in the summer :coffee:

I been traveling a bunch for work, but have been able to get in 3 runs per week since the first of the year, including longs runs of 9 and 10 miles the last 2 Sundays. I broke what I would call a strut on our treadmill so I am searching for free gym passes for the next week or so until I can find somewhere to get it welded. If I get desperate, I might resort to signing up for a free trial.

When the treadmill broke, I was test-driving my new Brooks Glycerins. I only got a little over 4 miles in on them, but I really like them from what I can tell (compared to my Asics Gel Nimbus 9s). They feel far better across the top of my foot, something my podiatrist preached to me. And, I had a downhill running sensation in the. My back felt different, but I’ll need more miles on them to tell if it was good or bad. The tendon issue is still there in my left foot, but I can now see that my last shoes were getting a little soupy and these should help this as well.

I am shocked a bit at some of the heart rates I’ve read when catching up. I have only used the grab type monitors gym and hotel treadmills, but I don’t recall ever getting over about 168 on those when finishing up a full sprint at an end of a run. I’ll admit, I don’t understand this one bit, but it appears I might be cheating myself a bit but not trying to gauge my optimum range. I have a heart rate headband thingy for my treadmill. Once I get it fixed, will this give me a good read, and how should I go about finding my optimum heart rate?

I couple of new sigs have caught my eye. Darrin, OCD runner fits me to a T. We did one of those hooey team-building things lately, the Pace Palette, and I was a red off the charts. I also like “I lunge, therefore I am” by Tri-Man, but you need to get healthy and get some events in there too. I have my schedule and want to update my sig with them soon. I am tracking my miles, shooting for 1,000 miles in ’08 and want to track my progress there as well.

Admittedly I am self diagnosed OCD, but it helps explain a lot about what I have experienced in my life, including smoking, eating, quitting smoking, losing weight, and running. Whatever I have done in life I do it all out. At least the running is healthy.

I was able to get my 6 miles in today. Heck, I did 6.3 because I knew the treadmill would turn off after an hour and after my warm up walk I was already at 57 minutes when I got to 6 so I just finished out the hour. I was unusually sore from playing basketball on Wednesday night. It was my first time on the court in several months so I expected some soreness, but it was a different type of tired muscle than you get from running. The elbow to the nose pretty much sidelined me until today. The nose is no longer swollen and I have carved through the dried blood enough so it does not bother my breathing.

Furley, you are crazy. It is so cold in the Twin Cities today I would not consider running outside in this. Packer game should be interesting.

Having experienced just a taste of that cold last week in Indy, I don't know how the hell you guys up north do it.

I did get a couple of miles on the treadmill on Wednesday morning in my hotel, and ran about 4 miles around the Notre Dame campus on Thursday. I learn when I'm travelling how important sleep is to my running, as I tend to sleep little and poorly, and my running is a big struggle. Of course I also went out pretty hard and late in Indy on Wednesday night, I'm sure that didn't help!

Went out yesterday afternoon and did a 5 mile run, mostly on trails. Was planning on doing 6 miles, but I tried a trail I had never been on before and it was tougher than I hoped for - pretty rough (roots, rocks, downed trees, a couple places nearly washed out) and more importantly some pretty good elevation gain. So I called it at 5 and was happy with that. My legs are still not quite back to normal after the 16K trail run last weekend, but I have a feeling this week should be better. I think I'll make my long run next weekend a long (7-9 miles), slow, flat one, stay off the hills for a week to get my quads back to normal.

Also hit the gym yesterday morning for a little weight training for the first time in about 10 years. Just upper body and core stuff, felt good to do it again, now I need to keep it up. I'll figure out a way to start getting some lunges in here this week as well, going to start real slowly with those so I don't have to come in here and :finger: tri-man.

Did 9.3 yesterday afternoon with temps in the mid 20s but winds were 15-25 mph. The wind was in my face for the first 2 miles which kept me slower early. It helped that they were at my back for the last 2 miles as they were my fastest 2 miles of the run! After long runs of 8, 9 and 9 miles the last 3 weekends, this week will be an easy week for me. On a side note, I only saw one Giants banner on someone's front porch yesterday (I live in central NJ). I'll bet if I run that same route again next weekend that number will go way up as all of the bandwagon fans should have their gear on display.

I did just over 10 miles yesterday at a 9:29 pace. The temps were in the low 50's but there was a strong headwind for a significant part of the run. My next 5K is this coming Saturday. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Sunday morning, I put on my hat and gloves and ran 10.3 @ 9:29 pace - average temp was 44 and a bit of a nasty wind at times.

No running today, but I did do 150 crunches, 29 3/4 pull-ups, 60

(30 on each side), and 60 heel raises (30 on each foot). I do the pull-ups laying on my back, my legs being supported by a pilate ball, and pull up my body using the top bar from my ab roller.

Ran 7 miles on the treadmill today. I'm not getting out in the 48 and rainy weather.
I'd kill for this kind of weather. I have a part of my treadmill in with a welder to see if he can booger a part to weld and fix it. I resorted to going to my community rec center to run on their POS treadmill tonight as I couldn't take not running for 5 days. Did 6 miles, but may have tweaked a few things as the belt was a bit loose and slipped a bit. We are supposed to get back in the mid 20s by this weekend, snowing or not I am getting back outside.

How's your sex life? Seriously, I'm pleased to read of your continuing strength and core work (you and others, too). That will be an important part of the mix, especially, I believe, after the drastic weight loss. For me, some indoor bike training (45-90 minute sessions), some swims, and my reps. I've been sticking my feet into a bucket of ice water after some workouts, and that really seems to be helping with the foot pains, which appear to be lessening.

I ran 4.5 miles today. It was a struggle. I was very tired today. I think that having a faster than normal 3 mile run the day after a long run really took it out of my legs. I was also up for 2 hours with my 22 month old in the middle of the night, so maybe I was just tired. Typically I can run at 6.4 for however long my run is, but I was down to 6.0 for the last mile. It feels great that I made it, but it was a lot more work than 4.5 miles usually is.

Nice job, Furley! Way to suck it up! :goodposting: I wussed out today and ran at the gym, but I just laid out my clothes and set my alarm for 4:30 AM so that I can shovel off my driveway and then take on the below-zero wind chills for a little 8-miler. Wish me luck!

I've been slacking but that's behind me....hopefully.

Two hours spinning tonite alternating between 2 min in zone 1, 2 min in zone 2, and 1 min in zone 3. Flowed that up with a leg workout for 30 min. Burned 2400 cal during that 2.5 time frame. 2100 of it in the two hours.

My Update:

Ran a 10 miler this Sunday, which had two hills with at least 50 foot climbs (mile 4 and 7). I ran both hills and mile 9 (very flat) at race pace (8:30 or faster), and ran the other 7 miles at 9:00 pace. My HR got up pretty high during mile 7 and 9, but came down after the following mile.

Yesterday I was supposed to start my bike training with a 20 miler, but had to cancel due to rain all day. I thought about getting on my trainer, but decided to have a beer (followed by a couple others) with my neighbor instead (I believe I made the right choice!).

Today was a slow 4 miles, and Thursday will be some speed work. IF I complete my Thursday workout injury free, it will be the closest I've come to running a marathon in my last 4 tries (all ended in injury); and I'll be ready to run my first 20+ miler next Sunday. I hope to do a fairly hilly 20.5 this Sunday, and a flat 22 next Sunday, prior to tapering.

Slowing my pace down, Chi running, and having my wife (working on becoming a Massage Therapist) massage my legs after all long runs; have all most likely contributed to me feeling better about my running then I have in 4 years. I'm getting slower, but am enjoying it much more!

FYI: for my Sunday run, the temp. was 29 degrees when I started, while for this mornings run it was 60 degrees with 98% humidity. I think it's due to Global Indifferencetm

I got in 5.2 at a 9:36 pace tonight. I also was able to get in all of my exercises as well. Tomorrow will be my last run before the 5K on Saturday, and I am scheduled to do a tempo run. 5 total miles with a mile warm up and cool down and 3 miles at an 8:30 pace. I was wondering if I should just do an easy run and count Saturdays race as the tempo run, or go ahead with my schedule and rest Thursday and Friday to be ready for Saturday? Any thoughts?

Well actually, it is! It was ~45 at the start of my marathon last week (geez, it's been over a week already?! :o ), and I was in tshirt/shorts. :D
I think 45 to 50 is ideal!
75 to 80

I'd say the former ..easy run, then use Saturday as a tempo run - see how that feels and works.
