He's not on a trail leg. You have it. He and I are the 2 without.
Is there anyone with two trail legs? I know one of mine is a trail leg, but the first part of it is downhill. If anyone has two trail legs I'd be willing to switch to save the legs on one of our faster guys.

Nope.  There's only 4 total trail legs and the 4 people that have the positions with them each only get 1.  The #5, #6, #7, and #9 legs are the trail legs.  That means the #1, #3, #5, and #6 person will have one trail leg.  The #2 person (me), and #4 person (JShare) don't have one.  Of course, that's subject to change as they could modify the legs.  The legs had remained unchanged the first 4-5 years until last year when they added the trail portion to #9 (my leg) a few weeks before the race.  I actually saw the race coordinator the other day and asked if they were expecting changes and it didn't sound like it but couldn't guarantee so my guess is it'll stay the same or similar to last year.

ETA -- @JShare87's legs should work out well for him, I think.  The first one is the longest/hardest at 7.25 miles.  After that he has a 2.56 mile leg and a 3.4 mile leg.  I would think that should serve him well.

OK.

I was looking at those links I sent everyone, and this race really sets up nicely for us. I will start looking at the weather later today and post every couple of hours.

I'm starting to get FOMO about this relay race.  And to top it all off, I'll be camping that weekend where these is no cell service, so I won't be able to see the play by play on this thread in real time.

I'm predicting at least 30 pages of this thread dedicated to that race between now and and end of the race reports of that day.

Btw, I don't know how much it will help, but I'd consider adding some double workouts over the next couple of months for those of you that haven't done something like this (I think @gruecd and @tri-man 47 have).  And not just going out for a couple runs in a day, but actually doing a SOS workout, resting 2-3 hours, then doing another SOS workout.  I forgot about wanting to add that to my plan and need to find a couple good spots to start.

Same, wish it weren't when it is.  Getting away for long weekends is difficult anyway, but that time of year is impossible.  Maybe when the youngest is a bit older...

Two SoS on the same day?  I've heard of (and done) an SoS then a recovery and two easy runs on the same day.  But two SoS?  Sounds like an injury.  If I'm wrong by all means re-direct though.

Well, we are doing 3 SoS on race day.  That's the challenge of it all.  Last year, I did quite a few days of doubles but they were just easy/moderate runs and I don't think it helped at all.  I wouldn't do more than 2-3 of those kinds of days over the next 2 months, but for those that haven't experienced this, it will give an idea of what to expect and how to manage.

ETA -- Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong on this so maybe don't :lmao:

I was just planning on running hard and then drinking a couple of brews before my next shift.

If it turns out well enough, maybe it'll become an annual thing and we can get another team added.  A couple of the guys aren't even coming in until Friday late and are leaving on Sunday.  If it's a matter of the kids, we could even look at getting something together for them and someone watching while we are gone on Saturday.  Something to think of for 2020 and beyond  ;)

I'll be traveling with the family that day on the way to vacation. Kind of bummed to only be able to look in briefly now and then myself.

As long as it's that weekend give or take unfortunately it isn't going to change my status.  Both my wife and I work in education.  While difficult to work around, you can with kids.  Work responsibilities, notsomuch.  At least not until we can leave them all home without supervision for at least some period of time.

Good thinking.  Glycogen replenishment and re-hydration are important aspects of an event like this.  Of course the key is nothing new on race day, so I'd suggest a sixer after every run between now and then.

I've done several, and I don't think that's necessary.  At least I've never done it in the past.

Adrenaline takes care of most of it.  That, and knowing your teammates are waiting to call you a big ol' pooooooosay if you slow down.

I will be furiously taking notes from all of you - doing a similar race here 2 weeks after, immediately after returning from vacation.  I have a baseline expectation - leg one will go well, future legs will be challenging mentally but actual time won't suffer much.  But your team's experience will heavily influence how I approach that whole day and any advice I pass along to teammates.

Also, don't ever take advice from me regarding post-marathon recovery.  I rested on Sunday, but then I went 4-4-6-4-5 the last five days.  All super easy miles though.  Gonna hopefully run 10 tomorrow, and then I'll treat next week as a "sharpening" (not "taper") week for Boston.

As @gruecd says, race day adrenaline should suffice.  After all, at last year's DWD I did 20+ miles of single track trail legs on a bad hip.  The body holds up well over the course of a day.  So I really wouldn't worry about it.  The first leg will be a little below max effort, and subsequent legs will be at maybe 90% or so.

I keep meaning to then not remembering until I'm getting ready to run then forgetting again until Gian makes the suggestion but I'm too tired to do it now and tell myself I'll do it tomorrow morning only to forget again until I'm getting ready to run.

Vicious cycle I tell ya
So did you message him and get it fixed? Couldn't tell from your Strava comment if that happened or you were joking.

Haha, yeah - I was serious.  It's tough to tell with me sometimes since I'm being a smart ### about 90some% of the time.  Maybe more.

If anyone cares he uses Dark Sky as his weather provider, but he's experienced issues with faulty info like me elsewhere.  Not frequently, but 'a handful of users.'  In those cases he's experimenting linking us up with Accuweather.  2 runs in and mine seems to be functioning well.

BTW, on the relay front. I know @ChiefD mentioned that he and @Juxtatarot are trying to talk his wife into driving.

I mentioned it to mine and it turns out she was indeed planning on coming along. So the 2 of them may be our driving pair for the relay. She just needed to make sure she wasn't on call (which she's not).  Then again, she's not the greatest of drivers, especially with a 15 passenger van, so make sure you all have life insurance before heading over here.
I have no problem doing some of the driving between my running legs (and the DWD guys call me the "human GPS").  Besides, nothing can be worse than the van experience @gruecd and I had in our first relay together for the incredible Fall 50 in Door County, Wisconsin.  One of the guys (no longer active here ..I hope  ) had his wife come along, driving their van.  The van was filthy, she drove like a maniac, and they also had their rather bothersome daughters with them.  #Word

Ahhhh, memories...

All this weather talk integrating into Strava has me whacked.  Is this preferred by everyone here?  I can do it but I didn't think anyone really cared unless it was noteworthy to me....and then I put it in my editorial about the run.

The cool kids are doing it.

Does this mean you plan on racing Boston?  #Ignorant #Can'tReadBetweenTheLines

If it makes you feel any better, I ran a marathon (admittedly paced it) and then ran 50+ miles in the 5 days after the marathon.  So you aren't the only crazy one in here.  ☺️

Yes, we care. Yes, you should do it.

I don't see a downside of having that information stored.

It's for me. Just another data point when evaluating my output. We always recognize when conditions likely impacted a workout, but if you're looking back weeks and months later you're not going to remember with at least some of them.

2018 Year-end Report

Your goals coming into the year, and were they achieved?

Goal(s) for 2019:

Would like to be involved in the St. Louis relay thing in some capacity that doesn't involve foot rubs or any other body part rubs.   Get KOM for one of the segments on the lake path by my house.  More tempo runs.  Get back to running back-to-back days.
@gianmarco oh hai

Killer swag bag this year.  Tech T'shirt, nice gear bag with race logo and several pockets, running hat, ball cap, body glide, nip-eaze, running gloves.
