Randy Cross is absolutely the worst analyst on tv (1 Viewer)

How does this guy still have a job? Every time he does a Steeler game I want to turn off the sound. The guy is absolutely horrible.

Was that not Maas doing the Vikes, Eagles game today?
My guess would be Brian Baldinger. He sounds exactly like Maas. Maas was released by FOX after repeated brushes with the law.

Tim Ryan also sounds like Maas, but I know for a fact he was working the Lions/Bears game today.

I wasn't aware Maas wasn't working the games anymore. And yeah, Baldinger does sound identical. It's sort of meathead chic.

Big difference, bro.Maas WAS a meathead. He would be wrong all the time, but dammit... he'd be wrong at the top of his lungs! :D

Baldinger, meanwhile, is very solid. He offers insight which the average fan doesn't pick up on. Blocking schemes, etc.

I like Cross.

There are much, much worse announcers out there. Never picked up on the bias in any of his broadcasts.

Hated those 'niner teams he played for though.

Why do people keep complaining about the announcers Anyone who remembers Howard Cossell can take anything. Focus on the game not the announcer.

Here's Irony for you......IF Randy Cross played football the way he provides commentary for the games, he would never have been hired to provide commentary for the games.

He questioned the coaching decisions of Marvin Harrison. He also credited Marvin Harrison with a tackle.

He talked about New England coming to Pittsburgh this year.

He credited Jason Gildon with a tackle, who hasn't played for the Steelers in 4 years. That's isn't confusion, that's not doing your job.

Randy Cross's pregame homework seemed to consist of opening an email, ......Hmmmm Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati.....

1) Make reservation, eat @ Ruby's

2) Compare Skyline Chili vs Gold Star Chili (this could provide excellent commentary, Leave stain on shirt to remind me),

3) Eat on Mike Finks Riverboat.

If just boggles my mind that the Networks pay gazillions of dollars for the right to broadcast games, then they hire a complete buffoon to provide commentary while proudly wearing the CBS Logo and becoming the face/identity of the network while covering the most popular sports league in the world.

If I was the head of CBS Sports I would be embarrassed at that half assed, sorry, pathetic excuse, of "informed" commentary.

He also said Ben made a good decision on a quick read to avoid a blitz. Ben was on the bench. The Bengals had the ball.

Those are significant errors. And you're right, they shouldn't happen and I'd think Cross would agree. But just to be clear, these guys work pretty hard getting to the game Friday night and then Saturday. And in Cross' case, he usually is on the redeye home after the game to do his radio show from Atlanta at 7 AM. Sure, many of us would like to try that job. But it's not like they just see how many restaurants they can hit.J

...yet he's hilarious and very honest on Sirius Satellite every morning on Sirius NFL ch 124. I enjoy him a lot.

And those teeth!

It's interesting because at the bars I go to there really isn't much sound...or its drowned out so I don't have to lsiten to the announcers as much.

There are definite good ones and bad ones though.

What makes him the worst analyst?
He's constantly calling out wrong names, he always sounds like he's rooting for one of the teams that is playing, and his commentary is just plain bad.
He missed a name and didn't pull for the Steelers and he's absolutely the worst analyst on tv? :bye:He's ok. He's ok on Sirius radio every morning as well I think.J
That's great that you like Cross and all, but I have no idea how you got from my post to your paraphrase of my post. He didn't miss one name, he misses a dozen names every time he's on. And it's not only Steeler games that he sounds like he's rooting, it's pretty much every game I've ever heard him do. And since when is taking late flights to get to and from games an excuse for not doing your job?

I said he's ok. And addressed the specific errors another poster pointed out. And I don't think anyone made an excuse. I said the job is not all cush eating at local restaurants. :lmao: J

Marvin Harrison called a TO yesterday in Cincinnati, which just adds another amazing factoid to his lengthy HOF Resume, considering he was in Charlotte at the Time.

Don't they have spotters? I announce high school games and my spotters feeds me bad info from time to time.

I was addressing their speaking styles. I agree with you though- Baldy actually has a head on his shoulders (no neck in between of course).
