Wide receiver Randy Moss was diagnosed with a separated shoulder following the Patriots' season and that was the reason he did not play in the Pro Bowl, a league source said on Monday.

The severity of the injury is not known, although rest alone can often heal a separated shoulder.

Moss had surfaced on the injury report with a shoulder ailment three days after the Patriots' 20-17 overtime loss to the Broncos on Oct. 11. He remained on the injury report because of the shoulder through Nov. 6, although he played through the injury.

Moss had taken himself out of the Broncos' game for two plays after a 36-yard reception in the third quarter. On the play, in which he caught a pass over the middle and then was running down the field, Moss considered a lateral before tucking the ball and then having three Broncos drive him into the ground.

Still, Moss returned to the game, and it is unclear if that was the play in which he injured his shoulder.

Moss started all 16 games this season and finished second on the team with 83 receptions for 1,264 yards and a team-high 13 touchdowns. He played in approximately 85 percent of the team's offensive snaps, easily a team-high among receivers.

Moss had played through significant back pain in the team's 26-10 win over the Falcons on Sept. 27. The back injury first surfaced Sept. 25 and had Moss on the injury report through Oct. 1.

guess he's not quite as "done" as a lot of people are saying. With Moss 100% healthy next year, with hopefully a 100% rust free Brady, you might see another finish in the top 2 again.

I have to bump every NE player down a notch because if they're hurt you rarely, if ever, get any real information on it.

so if Moss was on the injury report with that shoulder injury until November 6th, and was diagnosed with a separated shoulder AFTER the season and pulled out of the Pro Bowl, would that be illegal of the Patriots not to report the injury between Nov 6th and the end of the season? The NFL should look into this.Because if the Patriots deliberately concealed a major injury, there would probably be hell to pay.

 No way did it take them well over three months to figure out that he had a separated shoulder.

So he hurt himself in the Broncos game and the following 4 weeks, his stats were...

8-129-3

5-69-0

6-147-1

9-179-2

I hope he seperates his shoulder every month next season.

It should be more than obvious at this point that the NFL doesn't really care about phony injury reports. They sacrifice a token scapegoat now and then but they've made it clear that it's not a concern.

In other Moss news, he and the team appear to be discussing a 3 year contract extension. Moss currently only has a year remaining on his contract. I didn't understand the talk recently of the team cutting ties with him and moving on without him. That didn't make any sense to me. It would be interesting to see what sort of money the sides are talking, as we all know the Pats can only be described as cheap when it comes to player salaries.

A separated shoulder shouldn't and doesn't affect a player's legs or his ability to run hard every play.
There is that.
you have never had a separated shoulder or you would not make such a stupid statement.....
I never had a separated shoulder but had injuries almost similar to that in both shoulders. It was so bad, I couldn't even hail a taxi. Imagine trying to catch a ball.

Last I checked the NFL still plays tackle football, which infers collisions, and hard surfaces to land on in addition to having to actually catch the ball.

ok stupid. He was able to get out on a football field yet his seperated shoulder was so bad he couldn't run. Now who is stupid. HE WAS OUT ON THE FIELD. You are.

Additionally.

For a guy with a separated shoulder, he sure did heal up nicely in November when he went off for 9-179 and 2 TDs'. :lmao:

some people are either just looking for a shot at moss (there's tons everywhere) or are truly ignorant about what a separated shoulder does not only with catching but with running as they themselves probably don't play competitive sports. let them be  anyways this makes the 2 carolina fellows like kind of dumb. game plan probably was hey get deep if u can without injuring your shoulder more and if brady sees you he'll toss it to you (he didn't), otherwise just draw coverage. he did the second pretty good and mr welker ripped them apart under.
