Randy Moss to become Unrestricted Free Agent at season's end (1 Viewer)

Some team will step up and offer Randy Moss a monster contract at the end of the season, and from the way the Patriots* have handled WR contracts in the past I think it's likely they won't pay him what he'll demand. Moss won't be taking a reduced contract next year, that's for sure, so things may not be so rosey for the Patriots* next year after all. Maybe they better start looking to draft a WR, and Brady can start crying.

Naah - you can just imagine what kind of videotapes they have of him - that's how they get players to play for such manageable contracts ;O)

If the Pats win the Super Bowl, Moss probably will go for the money. If they don't win then I could see Moss taking a pay cut for another year.

i havent seen Moss on any UFA lists. Does he have an out clause in his contract or something? I could have sworn he just signed an extension as a part of the trade to New England. Either way, I dont see him leaving the Patriots. No way.

Len Pastabelli reported it on ESPN today, Moss WILL be an UFA at season's end. Sorry Patriots* fans, actually, I'm not. :no:

Lets assume he breaks some of Rice's records. He would have to be an idiot to take another paycut, and the Patriots would fall in the same category if they don't give him #1-receiver-in-the-league kinda money.

Are you another one of these guys whose team sucks so bad you have nothing better to do then try and rip apart other teams? Moss isn't going anywhere. I'm not sure he's an UFA and even if he is they'll sign him. Things are different in NE. You think Kraftco is going to give Brady and his team mates this toy for one year then let him sail? Please...

People really don't seem to get Randy Moss imo. They guy is not all about himself.

That said, he will command - AND DESERVE - a pretty damn big contract. When necessary, the Pats have ponies up. Brady. Getting Adalius Thomas in free agency.

My guess is that the Pats will pay him a good amount, although it may not be "maxed out" - and if that is the case and the contract is large, but fair and not over the top, I say Moss resigns.

The guy agreed to less money to be on a team where he could win. He stated in the offseason that at this point in his career winning is all that is important to him. He may want more money and leave but if he enjoys winning he will likely take less money than market value and stay.

When Moss goes for 1800+ yards and 20+ TD's he knows he'll be in position to become one of the highest paid players in the NFL. A player of that caliber won't take a paycut. And New England Patriots* won't invest that kind of money on a 30+ year-old WR one year removed from a bad rep and nagging injuries. As soon as you Patriots* fans realize that the only people who take paycuts to play for your cheating team are over-the-hill players desperate for a job (Seau, Bruschi, Harrison) and players trying to shake bad reputations (Dillon, Moss) the better off you'll be.

So what is your whole point of this thread? To talk about Moss or some desperate attempt to ridicule Patriot fans. (which at 9-0 and no sign of losing anytime soon, probably could give two ####s less)And the * is lame. And while we're talking about 'being better off', this board would of been better off w/o this topic.

On what basis? I've cited factual information as reported by Len Pasqueralli. If I hurt your feelings because I am not bowing down to the Patriots*, then big WAAAHHH! If I hurt your feelings because I called the Patriots* cheaters, then you must also hate Roger Goodell cause he thought the same.

That was a joke. You sound like a 13 year old and that's not a joke. You're an embarrassment.

Moss can either hit the open market and demand about $12mil/year and be without a doubt the highest paid player in the league. or he can stay in NE, play with Tom Brady, and win Superbowls. We'll see ya next year, Randy.

You better start a tin can collection to help pay for his monstrous salary with the Patriots* because Kraft and Co. aren't going to pay him what he is worth, and you're dreaming if you think players play for New England Patriots* just to win. Football is an aggressive sport and this will be Moss' last chance to collect on the monster contract he's always been capable of. Typical of you though, another Patriots* fan in denial that his team can be anything but immortal in the NFL. I wouldn't doubt if Moss signs an underpaid contract and Kraft gives him under the table money, maybe I should place a call to Roger Goodell about that and he can strip away their 49'ers 1st round draft pick. :football:

again, Im sure there's a great life out there for you just waiting to be lived. reach out and take it.

I wouldn't be so sure they don't pay him. You can't judge their past actions, because it's clear nobody they've ever had rivaled the talent of Moss, but they wanted the money. I feel they've been very good in talent assessment. Was Branch worth $6 million a year? Debatable at best. Surely not a surefire #1, still hurt a lot. Gets knocked off the ball. Has Givens produced even close to his contract level? Not even close. The WR corps will definitely look different, but I expect Stallworth and Possibly Washington to be gone, not Moss.

You left Brady and Adalius Thomas, Roosevelt Colvin, Mike Vrabel and Rodney Harrison off your little list of players you're Jealous NE signed for less than max value.

Teams know what Moss is about. They're not necessarily going to get the 2007 Moss. He plays when he wants to and he owes the Raiders a lot of money for not earning (or even trying to earn) his paycheck.

I'm not a fan of the Pats, but I appreciate watching them play so well. I'm just a little sorry Moss is a part of it. He's not a player I would really root for, even if he played for my favorite team. I don't like people who stop trying.

I really can't stand these patriots fans now... you guys have an amazing team... im not denying it... probably one of the best assembled. But please stop putting rings on fingers people.. it is week 10. Now if Tom Brady gets injured week 12, or randy moss is IRed... will everybody still be playing the same tune?... probably not. Not only that, you'll still have to face the Colts in the AFC championship.. a colts team that will have marvin harrison, freddy keiaho and tyguan hagler... thats saying your your precious big-headed patriots don't slip up before they make it to that game... and your D is not invincible either... your ancient linebacking corps that got drafted when jesus was still walking the earth doesn't have that much time left.

Im not hating... i really do think their a special team and will go down in the history books.. but the season is NOT over... and their losing to the steelers pretty soon so me venting is in vein.

p.s im a giants fan not steelers so i dont care.. just think their going to be the team to do it.

I think he might end up in Indianapolis.

Deion = Moss

Falcons = Raiders

49ers = Pats

Cowboys = Colts

Cowboys beat the 49ers at home in the conference championship game, then the next year the 49ers added Deion Sanders, who was sick of being in Atlanta. Sanders won DPOY, the 49ers beat the Cowboys at home in the conference championship game and won the SB. Then Deion bolted out of SF and joined the Cowboys, who would win the Super Bowl again the next year.

Will the Colts have the cap room to sign Moss? We'll see. But I think we'll see them do everything in their power to sign Moss away from New England. There's no reason not to mortgage your future when you've got a QB like Manning with the window closing, and they'd be insane favorites to win it all if they signed Moss.

Not to mention the significant hit NE would take losing Moss. I have to believe if Indy is in the running to get Moss at years end, NE will do everything in its power to keep them from getting him including going against the norm for them and signing him to a big money contract,

And you mocked me when I suggested that after you had been through your Big Daddy Kane alias and your Syrus alias that you would move onto either Dma or Joey Chestnuts. Here you are.

Not so sure he'd leave or that they couldn't offer him a nice(but not enormous) contract.Reading his comments, this is what he's always wanted and/or what he's always dreamed about. He actually seems content for the first time in a long time.ALOT of players go for the money but not all, there's a chance he stays

I figure if the Colts have money they go for D.Tennessee is a terrific D. Jax can be a real good D. Houston has several potentially excellent pieces to having a very good D. Often times division opponents look at each other when building their teams so I think they'd go D if they had $ to spend. Also IIRC 2008 is a terrific year for DTs. Running game is the bread and butter of teams in the division and as we all know a terrific DT can really impact the opponents run game

Give it a rest, pal.Your act has gotten very tired.

Moss could not sign a new contract before the deadline this week because he already restructured his contract this year. Players can only redo their contracts once per NFL calendar year.

From what I'm hearing, Moss is EXTREMELY happy playing on New England and insiders believe that he would be happy to stick around, potentially even for less money than he could get on the open market.

While there certainly is nothing offical to report (again because he could sign even if he wanted to), both sides seem overjoyed with the other and appear primed to work together to keep Moss in NE.

Moss either resigns with NE at a price close to market value or goes to a team Like Pittsburgh or Philly.
The Steelers are going to be shelling out big money to Ben Roethlisberger this off-season. There is no way the Steelers will outbid the Patriots or any other team for Moss.

I have no doubt that Randy is happy with the Pats but IF he finally gets a ring and someone offers him considerably more then he will be gone. I don't care how much you make, money talks.

Jeebus the "*" shtick is lame. Is it only this tool doing it? I generally try to stay away from the bashing threads.

I'm a die hard Colts fan, but I'm also a football fan. Even being the biggest homer for another team I don't see how you can't respect what NE is doing this year. Give the bashing a rest for cripes sakes.

Denver will bid.

They will draft defense. They will buy Moss, and they will believe themselves retooled for another run. And with a W.R. corp of Moss, Walker, and Marshall they would be right.

I may be impressed by the talent, and the way it plays on the field, but I do not respect cheaters, nor the arrogant attitude of the coach, nor the fact that the team is dumb enough to risk injury to key players after games are salted away.

To name one: Brady. He took a very manageable contract in order to win, stay on a winning team, and surround himself with talent.If Moss ends up with the career stats he is on pace to get, I don't see it outside the realm of possibility that he signs a reasonable contract for another year of an outstanding career.

The alternative is ... he signs with another team and returns to mediocrity. I think that Moss has put his money where his mouth is so far and proved he means what he said. HE WANTS TO WIN.

If he ends up with a Super Bowl ring, it would be tough to fall from grace and sign with a team that is only going to allow him to get mediocre stats.

He has stated many times that he wants to win and that is his primary concern. He has a fantastic rapport with Brady and is on pace for an outstanding season and possibly, remaining career.

I'd be real surprised if Moss isn't in Foxboro next year. He's in a great situation where he's playing with a H-O-F QB, putting up monster numbers, winning a lot of games, has a coach who knows his deal and doesn't have to be the focus of the media because he's surrounded by so many quality veterans. It's not a fluke that Moss has revived his career in this situation. The one thing that has really surprised me about Moss is how smart he is. Before becoming a Patriot I thought he was a lot rougher around the edges than he actually is. IMO I think he knows he's in the best situation possible for him and his play backs this up.

Now, that being said the Pats will have to give him some legit money. Yet, for those who don't think they will you just don't understand how this franchise works. The Pats have zero issues giving good money if they deem a player worthy of it. They also have zero issues letting someone walk if their demands are too steep. Brady and Seymour have huge deals, they just resigned Warren to a nice deal and Thomas didn't come cheap (they also have offered Derek Mason more money than the Ravens a few years ago). I fully expect Moss is get a real nice package. I do think he maybe able to squeeze some more money elsewhere but I think the Pats offer will be good enough that both sides will be happy.

Chris Mortensen touched on this topic a few days ago. He said this time around, Moss won't take a below-market contract. He said that something along the lines of what Terrell Owens got with the Cowboys will be a starting point. That said he doesn't see Moss leaving the Patriots; he said the two sides will get something done. Randy is happy playing for the Patriots and the Patriots feel a lot more comfortable giving a WR with Randy's talents the big bucks as opposed to someone like Deion Branch who they felt was a good talent, but not an elite talent.
