First, the news:

The Associated Press reports lawyers for New England Patriots WR Randy Moss and the woman who accused him of battery, Rachelle Washington, agreed to extend a temporary restraining order she obtained against Moss. A court hearing was scheduled in Florida for Monday, Jan. 28, at Washington's request for a permanent restraining order. The temporary order required Moss to stay at least 500 feet from Washington. "The restraining order will be continued by agreement of the attorneys," Tim DiPiero, Moss' agent, said in a statement. "The parties won't be there." Moss' attorney, Richard Sharpstein, said he would appear at the hearing on Moss' behalf and agree to the extension of the restraining order until both parties can appear in court or the matter is resolved.

Now a strange twist that ran through my mind.....

What would happen if the Giants had this woman as a guest on their sideline?

The restraining order is getting continued because Moss has asked for an extension in order to make the court appearance . . . so there is no need for people to AGAIN jump all over him suggesting that this is evidence that he is guily (for a crime that he has not even been charged with).

Second, I suspect that the restraining order is either valid within a certain jurisdiction or the attorneys agreed that she was not to be at the Super Bowl (or the practice field, etc.).

I'm sure Randy's attorneys would be able to get some exception/amendment to the restraining order if this unbelievable scenario materialized.

IANAL, but I don't think that would fly. The football field is his place of employment. He has a right to earn a living. If she goes out of her way to his place of employment, then the restraining order isn't enforced. Imagine if someone had a restraining order against you and then showed up at your job. It's ridiculous to think that you would have to leave. I would hope the law has provisions for such scenarios.

:lmao: It is also worth mentioning that the woman's prior attorney, David McGill, has been replaced with a new attorney. Based on the current state of affairs, I would say it is more likely that Moss' extortion allegations are more accurate than the underlying assault complaint allegations.

Think this through. If your wife gets a restraining order against you and then sits down at your desk at work, who do you think is violating the restraining order?

I don't think you people understand the power and reach of a restraining order. It is apparant (from the Simpson's episode I watched) that it must be enforced at all times under all circumstances - why else would Bart have been forced to live with the animals outside of the home?

I assume the restraining order is only valid in Florida. I also imagine that there are exceptions for place of work.
Unless they're spelled out in the restraining order, it's probably not an exception. Also, states must give rulings and decisions from other states' courts "full faith and credit", so I believe that this would be enforceable in Arizona too, albeit they'd have to return to FL to get that enforcement. But yeah, if she attends the game and sits in the stands (a more reasonable scenario) and the order says "not within 500 feet", you have a very interesting scenario.

The order isn't all-encompassing. It mandates that he not go within 500 ft of her home, place of employment and/or school and prevents him from contacting her through any means. He also can't intentionally go within 100 feet of her automobile.

Does it cover "horseplay"?

No, it's also strangely silent on tomfoolery, shenanigans, and monkey business. :excited:
