Shannon Sharpe leaves CBS (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Shannon Sharpe was served with a temporary restraining order by an Atlanta Court per a petition by a woman named Michele Bundy. A hearing has now been scheduled for the case at Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Monday, Sept. 20. Sharpe has not been charged with a crime or been arrested.

Bundy was granted a temporary protective order against Sharpe after accusing the CBS commentator of forcing her to have sex with him, making multiple threats on her life and stalking her. Sharpe was ordered by the Court to not contact Bundy or her immediate family and remain at least 200 yards away from her at all times.

Bundy's attorney listed the following allegations against Sharpe in the restraining order petition:

Forced to have sex with him.

He repeatedly calls and threatens her life.

Places her under surveillance and calls to say he is watching her.

Bundy requested in the petition that a minor child in her care also be applicable to the protective order. The request was granted by the judge. As noted by the judge, the Sept. 20 hearing will require Bundy and her attorney "to show why the demands (restraining order) of the petitioner should be granted."

After my inital report on Friday about the temporary restraining order obtained by Bundy, Sharpe performed his regular NFL studio host duties on CBS on Sunday and did not comment about the case.

Following my report on the details of the restraining order petition today, Sharpe released this statement through CBS: "I have decided to step aside from the NFL Today until this matter is resolved."

CBS Sports Senior Vice President of Communications Leslie Anne Wade said on behalf of the network: "We accept Shannon's decision and decline to comment further on a pending legal matter."

I hope its not true. I always liked the guy. Just goes to show you can never tell what a person might be truly like. It's depressing that we keep reading these stories, though. Why does it seem like so many athletes have a lack of respect for women?

Tim, why do you assume that Sharpe doesn't respect women?

Tim, why do you assume that Sharpe doesn't respect women?
I don't assume that. If he's guilty of the charges, then I would assume it. My comment was a general one. I'm sick and tired of reading about athletes, from Big Ben to Chris Rainey (today) who seem to have no respect for women. Not all of them guilty, but enough of them are.

Clearly a case of extortion.

Obviously it's impossible to understand what Shannon Sharpe says.

It's not just athletes. They are just higher profiled cases. This kind of thing has been going on since the Adam stalked Eve.

Yea, he probably said something along the lines of, "If I don't hear from you, I'll call you tomorrow." But, what she heard was, "If I don't get head from you, I'll kill you tomorrow!"

I honestly had that sorta thought when I first heard about this: "How could anyone understand a single word that goat-toofed mo' fugger said enough to be legitimately harassed? He could have been just reading her a weather report in an animated voice over the phone."

Enjoyed the heck out of listening to him on Sirius last year as well as on CBS. Always found him pretty entertaining. Sure he comes accross as a bafoon a lot, but I felt he was much better than a lot of guys. Boomer, Jimmy Johnson come to mind.

Let's not forget the latest stories coming from the Jets.

No, sir, I don't like it.

wow......not real sure how to say this or even if I should......but I will just say that this does not come as a surprise to some people in northern Colorado......

I've don't ever remember hearing of anything specific, but I assume you are talking about training camp days in Greeley.

I'm glad ##### bags such as Shannon Sharpe and his ilk are being expunged from the NFL community. Those on this board that take rape accusations lightly and seem inclined to automatically assume extortion really should be ashamed of themselves. :goodposting:

There's a lot of examples for both genders that can cause people to lose respect if generalized.

Lou Ferrigno is easier to understand than Sharpe. Not sure how a guy who talks like he has a mouthful of marbles got on the show to begin with.

yes.......sometimes people think they can do whatever they want because of who they are.....and because of who they are nobody will ever say anything.......that can create bad situations.......

I'll take Sharpe all day long over Irvin. I'll take anyone who doesn't repeat the same point, only louder, as if that is all that is necessary to make complete nonsense logical. What was the line by Ditka to Irvin? "No matter how loud you say it, it still doesn't make any sense." It's what I like to call, the Steven A Smith School of Logic and Debate.

What about those who automatically assume the accusation to be true?

 Everyone knows that all accusations of rape are always 100% true.

Also, if she was forced to have sex with him would'nt he be arrested for rape? I would think the district attorney would be interested.

Dismissal of protective order could pave way for Sharpe's return

Posted by Mike Florio on September 15, 2010 5:00 PM ET

On Tuesday, former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe stepped aside from his duties at CBS pending the resolution of a protective order entered against him last week.

On Wednesday, the situation apparently was resolved.

TMZ reports that the protective order has been dismissed. Though there's no indication yet regarding whether Sharpe will be back on the air on Sunday, the dismissal of the order and the absence of any other investigation would suggest that Sharpe can return.

As we pointed out on Tuesday, an "ex parte" protective order is obtained without the party against whom it is entered even appearing in court. While it's not clear how or why the order suddenly evaporated in advance of Monday's hearing (and, yes, there's a chance that a financial settlement was reached), the matter looks to be concluded.

One aspect may be the increased testosterone levels that most likely go along with the larger body sizes, as well as the competitive and dominant "alpha-male" tendencies necessary to succeed at professional sports may have something to do with it. Not trying to lump all athletes together in this, but it could definitely be something to do some studies on...

That whole crew stinks, JB and Boomer aren't too awful but Cower, Marino and Mushmouth are. The I played football so I can commentate idea is ridiculous.

I'd rather listen to the telletubbies talk football.
