Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins sign with Milwaukee (1 Viewer)

Wolf is 33 and has had injury problems in the past. $9M is good if he pitches like he did in 2009 but he's gotta be a huge regression risk. If the Brewers can get 550 IP decent IP out of the deal, I suppose it's not terrible.

As recently as July 2008, his trade value was equivalent to non-prospect Chad Reineke, so he picked a good time to put together a good season and a half.

LaTroy Hawkins just signed a 2 year deal with Milwaukee as well. Terms not disclosed yet.

GM Doug Melvin should be doing everything he can to improve that pitching staff while Braun and Fielder are still together in the middle of that line-up.

I would've liked to see Wolf back with the Dodgers, but I agree that he's an injury risk. He's an excellent 3rd or 4th starter to have.

As a season ticket holder, anything to improve the product is a good thing. Whether they will be good value for the money remains to be seen. But at least they are trying.

:goodposting: If the Brewers improve that rotation and stay healthy I think they have a chance at the wild card. I'm a fan. But they have to improve that rotation. Do they have anything left in the minors that might come up and impact next year or serve as trade bait during the stretch run? Escobar is taking over for Hardy this year, so he'll be in the majors. Who else do they have?

It sure sounds like this is the way the Crew are leaning. Sounds too much like a contract justification to me. If Suppan doesn't pitch better next season he'll hit the pen in a hurry.

The Brewers do have some young catchers available (which most teams don't) but the young player most likely to get moved for pitching help would be Mat Gamel. Only rumbles I've read usually include Corey Hart as well.

I think they'd be crazy to deal Hart with his trade value at a low point. He's still relatively cheap ($3.25M) and isn't eligible for free agency until 2012. If he can ever learn to lay off a pitch, he could be very good. Although at 28 years of age, he's more than likely to always be a hacker.
