With Kinsler, Andrus, Hamilton, Young, Beltre, Cruz and Napoli all in the lineup, Texas was 25-2 this season. 3-1 in the postseason.

Tigers are in trouble with Young not looking likely. Tigers will need a huge pitching effort. Without Young, the Tigers are the underdog here.

As I was able to do during the Tigers' last trip to the ALCS/WS in 2006, I will have a press/field pass to their home games

I'm getting paid (believe it or not) to run photo disks from the photographers to the "dark room" between innings. Tough work, but someone has to do it. :D

what happened to young. I'm too lazy. I don't see much written about this anywhere.

As a totally casual baseball fan is Texas pitching any good?

Tigers in 6
4th best ERA in AL this year. ERA Rankings
that was 2010 link...they were 5th this year. Better than the Tigers, but the Tigers 4th and 5th starters stunk up the league and then they added Fister and the rotation improved significantly.Interesting, if you look at just September, Texas and Detroit are #1 and #2 in the AL in ERA.

I would Rank the pitchers in this series:1. Verlander

2. Wilson

3. Fister

T4. Lewis, Holland, Harrison

7. Sherzer

8. Porcello

Agree with the top three, but I'd take Scherzer over the rest of the Texas rotation the way he looks right now. He's always had the stuff but he looks mentally tough and confident right now.

Well it will be fun to see how it plays out. The other 3 have looked tough and confident most of the year. Their September lines look like this:Harrison 4-0 in 5 starts 2.64 ERA

Holland 4-0 in 5 starts 2.20 ERA

Lewis 3-1 in 5 starts 5.65 ERA

Sherzer 2-1 in 5 starts 3.94 ERA

None of that matters now...

Before the playoffs started I would have listed the pitchers in the same order. I can't really differentiate between Harrison, Holland and Lewis, they're like a faceless trio of guys who I'd say are above average but not great. Following Detroit all year and the ups and downs with Scherzer, he seemed like a different dude his last two appearances. Carried a no-hitter through five in Yankee stadium in the most pressure-filled game of the season and had good stuff yesterday. His downside is a common one among non-elite pitchers; he'll cruise until one disastrous meltdown inning. He's vulnerable to homeruns. But so far he looks very sure of himself and his change-up looks terrific.

Game 1 Wilson- VerlanderGame 2 Holland- PorcelloGame 3 Lewis- FisterGame 4 Harrison- Sherzer
Advantage to the Tigers in starting pitching, with the Rangers having the better bullpen. lol at anyong thinking Harrison, Colby Cheese or the other guy are better than Scherzer, that is pretty entertaining. Hitting is pretty much the same, maybe a very slight advantage to the Rangers. These are the 5th and 6th biggest media markets in the AL, I think the ratings will be fine. Tigers have owned the Rangers the past few years and I think it continues here. Tigers in five.

I think Tigers in 5. I would lay anything up to -160 on DET for both road day games. Rangers take 1 of 2 at home and then never get back there.

This 3pm start stuff is a complete game changer. When I heard that I thought for sure it was a placeholder, nope.

I'll bet whatever the lowest ALCS ratings have been ever this is at least 25% lower than that.

I think because Boston or New York are not playing, more people who usually don't watch will. It won't be huge, but there will not be a big drop off.

Game 1 is late saturday. Not a good time for a game and traditionally shows poorly nationwide to limited fanbases.Game 2 is across from SNF. Epic fail. Keep in mind NYY-TEX lost to JAX-TEN last year.Game 3 is the only primetime game not directly across from a major sporting event. Big test here.Game 4 is 3pm CST start. Looking at record low number.Game 5 is 3pm CST start. Looking at record low number.Game 6 competes again with NCAAFGame 7 competes with SNF

Glad to see Max starting game two. As adamant as Leyland has been about pitching JV on full rest, I think he'd consider using him in game four if the Tigers trailed in the series at that point. Otherwise the plan holds. I think I'd rather have Verlander and Fister pitching on full rest for both their starts with Fister in game seven than forcing JV to go on short rest for three starts.

Silly me for thinking these 3 are better than the mighty Scherzer. That is seriously funny. Silly me.

This will be a tough series all the way around. I think these teams are very evenly matched. I'm a Texas homer and think that the Rangers will pull it off in the end.

My advice to you, don't start.

I imagine "hitting is pretty much the same" is likely full of holes too, but it's not worth the effort to verify.

Both teams are good. I think the team I watch every day is better. Tiger fans feel the same way. That's the way baseball go.

Glad they came to their senses and decided to start Max game 2, I think you need to get two possible starts out of your three best.

Cutb>talent-wise and at this place in time Scherzer is easily as good as those three Rangers starters. He is hit or miss, but when he's hit he's better than any of those three.

As far as ratings, you have to look at market concentration as well. IIRC Detroit is the third most followedteam by percentage of viewers in their market. Detroit is a crazy Sports town, they are gonna pull hefty shares out of the #11 market. DFW is the #8 market, and the Tigers also have fans all over the country who left Detroit.

I think lowest ratings ever is a bit of a stretch, 25% below lowest ratings ever is impossible IMO. We'll see, those afternoon starts do hurt.

Every time a Detroit teams advances in the playoffs people want to dump on the city and prattle on about how low the ratings will be. Who gives a ####? There are fans of teams and fans of the game. If your team is out and you're not a fan of the game, and you're watching because New York or Boston is playing and hoping they win, you're a doosh.

I think lots watch bos and nyy hoping they lose.

Between Verlander and Cabrara, the Tigers have better Marquee players than Boston or New York. Playing Texas is scarier than playing Boston or New York. The only team which truly scared me was Philly and they are gone now. The world series is wide open now with no clear cut favorite. There are some great players still playing like Pujols, Fielder, Hamilton. People are going to tune in. The world isn't as east coast centric as those who live in their little east coast world think.

Based on what? You posted earlier that you found it entertaining that anyone would think that those 3 are better than Scherzer. When he is is "hit" he is better than those 3? You mean like throwing 4 complete game shut outs "hit"? Scherzer is older than Holland and Harrison and has pitched roughly 200 more big league innings so far in his career than the other 2 and they both outpitched him in a hitters ballpark no less this season. They are probably very, very close right now, but based on results this year you are obviously just being a homer.

Easy there.

I think it's a pretty even series and the Tigers have the best 2 players in it, but the hitting isn't anything close to "pretty much the same".

They have out-pitched Scherzer this year, but if you watched Scherzer the last month or so he is pitching the best he has all year. That may be true for the Texas guys too as they have been hot too. It probably is a homer perspective, but Scherzer is pitching better right now than his stats suggest. But all that matters now is how each pitcher pitches in Game 2 when they start.

I agree about Scherzer. Love him and he might be the 2nd best pitcher in this series when he's on (which he clearly is now)That said, you need to check out what the Rangers starters have done over the last month. Wilson, Holland, and Harrison were all out of their minds in September. Wilson obviously wasn't so hot in the ALDS.I'd put all 6 of the non-Verlander, non-Porcello guys in a similar category. As you said, it only matters what they do now and Scherzer/Fister/Wilson/Holland/Harrison/Lewis are all capable of pitching gems and also capable of getting roughed up.It's going to be an exciting series.

If anyone cares there looks to be about a half hour to hour rain delay for the game.

No word if Finfrock is behind this.

Interesting, Leyland moved Cabrara and VMart upto the 3rd and 4th spot following Jackson and Rayburn, then with Mags in the 5th spot. I think that makes more sense than batting Mags 3rd.
