Looks like they have tweaked what the numerical grades mean for 2006. Hopefully, this doesn't skew the comparatives too much.

9.0 - 8.5 = Franchise player

8.4 - 8.0 = Potential Pro Bowl player

7.9 - 7.0 = Early impact player

6.9 - 6.0 = Early contributor

5.9 - 5.5 = Eventual starter

5.4 - 4.5 = Quality backup

4.4 - 4.0 = Chance to make roster

3.9 - 3.6 = Priority free agent

Benson and Brown are the highest rated back in the last five years by the Sporting News and Willilams is tied with Duece...interesting...

This strengthens my view that the rankings on this year's RB's are too high. Bell was a 5.9 while Morency is a 7.8? That's just ridiculous.

It does seem a bit off, but the best evidence that this system is is that Tomlinson is ranked 7.8, below Lee Suggs, Morency, Portis, and tied with Foster. Before anyone comments about "hindsight" - remember that LT was taken at the 1.05, and wasn't a reach, while Suggs lasted to the 3rd, Portis and Foster to the 2nd. I find it interesting that aside from William Green (who had one nice year) nobody in the top 10 is a bust. Even Duckett who hasn't performed up to FF expectations, has played a key role with the Falcons.

I think Suggs hurt his shoulder during pre-draft weight-training, which then led to his drop in the draft to the third round. TSN's analysis was pre-injury.

It's just for 2004-2005-2006, not all time.

Reggie Bush is being roundly touted as the best running back to ever come out of college (not by these guys specifically, just in general). These guys specifically give both RB and CB the same 8.8 rating, just short of the maximun 9.0 they would give to anyone. They are essentially saying that RB and CB are approximately the same in talent/value although undoubtedly in different way (e.g. no one would mistake CB's speed for RB's). I am assuming here (perhaps a mistake) that an 8.8 from them is the same this year as it was last year and as it was in 1995 and as it will be in 2009. That it is not a sliding scale that changes year to year depending on the level of talent that comes out each year.

TSN is a good site for news just not for rankings, item #3 above illustrates this inconsistency. I have been a long time subscriber to TSN for Fantasy stuff and a few years ago FOX bought TSN and some key people were let go whom used to write articles and help with the rankings and since then the quality of content has gone down.

Good point. While I'm a big Troupe fan and owner, I would have thought Davis would grade out higher pre-draft. Miller's blocking skill boosts him ahead of either IMO, although he isn't as good a receiver as either - very good, just not in the elite.Where's Maurice Drew? IMO he should be higher than Washington, Hall, etc. Probably somewhere around the high 6's.

Benson was touted as a top 5, but nobody thought he was the best player in the draft, in which Alex Smith went #1. Few doubt that if Leinart had been in the draft, he would have gone ahead of Smith, yet Leinart is below Bush on most lists.Not to say Benson isn't a talented RB, but he has never been considered the same talent Bush is.

You can't grade Heart! You can't grade situations your drafted into.

And that is why the top fantasy rookie pick is always overstated!

I have been a long time subscriber to TSN for Fantasy stuff and a few years ago FOX bought TSN and some key people were let go whom used to write articles and help with the rankings and since then the quality of content has gone down.

Benson was considered the #1 prospect at one point last offseason, I think they just give these grades early.For instance, Tomlinson was considered a 1st rounder but wasn't considered a top 5 pick until he ran his 40. It was very popular to have Deuce ranked ahead of him early that offseason.

Benson was touted as a top 5, but nobody thought he was the best player in the draft, in which Alex Smith went #1. Few doubt that if Leinart had been in the draft, he would have gone ahead of Smith, yet Leinart is below Bush on most lists.Not to say Benson isn't a talented RB, but he has never been considered the same talent Bush is.

Wasn't he #1 on Kiper's list at one point last offseason? Until the workouts, he was considered the #1 RB prospect on the majority of boards and was #1 overall on several lists.

Indeed, from the TSN NFL Draft guide... overall grade for those having declared...The thing is that it's probably written in January in order to have it printed in early March... lot of things changes, each year between Chritmas and the actual draft... probably why some of the grades are surprising, like Benson's - who was very highly thought of as of January last year...

I like these rankings. Sure there is alot of variance. There is also alot of consideration and hard work by paid staffs that go into this ranking. Being able to use the point system to see where rookies stack up to each other is not a touchstone but just another tool in my box. I use it along with other peoples rankings and the limited film I get to see to form my own opinion and build my own list. In the grand scheme of things, I dont care how Robert Meachem stacks up to Derek Hagan once I have built my own draft list, I really care how he stacks up to other rookies for 2007.

Looks like the old ratings based on a scale of 8 were converted to ratings based on a scale of 9 by using a ratio approach. Deuce's 7.7 out of 8 = 8.66 out of 9, etc.

I'm really surprised how they grade this WR draft class. I'd add 0.4 to about every grade to put these guys where I think they compare.

These rankings just jumped the shark.

I can understand maybe Calvin not being rated higher than Fitz... but being in the same general position as Mike Williams and Troy Williamson? He has the best combination of size, speed, hands and attitude perhaps ever.

Brady Quinn's rating is a joke too. Like the guy or not, I don't see how you can rate him in the same general class as Brodie Croyle and Dan Orlovsky.

Their rankings have always been a little screwy, but sometimes they hit the nail on the head.

I understand that nobody is going to be correct all of the time, and I actually do appreciate when somebody is willing to make a stand on a player that is against the grain. However, some of these rankings are so far against the grain that it makes me question them going forward.If Brady Quinn busts and Kolb is the next great thing at QB and if Antonio Pittman is a better back than Lynch, maybe I will change my tune. Until then, I will generally disregard these rankings.
