A couple of minor nitpicks:How did you manage to leave off safeties? Or did you assume that they were universally worth 2 pts. for DST? (They aren't)Missed FG's and XP's are often negative for kickers, and FG's can be more closely yardage based. Some scoring systems account for things like blocked FG's, and QB ratings. The ranges for pts/yds for DST scoring aren't likely to exactly match many leagues...but I'm not sure that matters much.
I don't want to speak for FBG's too much here, as I was only a beta tester, but I have the feeling that if this is received well then you'll be seeing a lot more updates in the future in regards to making this the best program it can possibly be.The beta testers certainly urged upgrades as it relates to Dynasty, IDP and advanced scoring methods like the ones you suggested.

I had serious reservations about the usefullness of this app. While those reservations haven't been completely erased, I'm still absolutely blown away by this thing.

SERIOUS PROPS!!! I mean...the detail is amzing, and the way it brings up news, etc., is fantastic.

Those are minor though, as DST and PK are (rightfully) glossed over to begin with.

It would be GREAT if this could be tweaked just a little bit to cover dynasty. Since it's based on staff rankings now, it doesn't seem like it would be too huge an undertaking to make that adjustment.

AGAIN...SERIOUS PROPS!
The rankings are based off of the projections, not just the staff rankings. Thus, this is the reason it's geared for just 2009 (redraft). I think they will be trying to do dynasty in the future, but that's not gonna happen soon AFAIK. Because it's based on projections, this is why you can tweak your scoring and it will give a different story because it uses the projections. For example, make the PPR portion something ridiculous (like 1000) and add Turner and Norwood to your team and see what happens.

Doug will better be able to answer this, but it depends on # of teams that make playoffs.
Gotcha. 6 of 12 in this case.
This is a little bit tricky. The odds are based off of your team against an "average" team with really no direct association to your individual league. It doesn't compare teams in your league against each other, only the average team based on FBG's rankings. I hope I made sense here. The numbers won't work out to be exact, but they should be relatively close I'm guessing. Doug should be able to paint a better picture of that.
Where the % comes from helps clear some of that up, thanks.
obxlegends pretty much explained it. The "average management" probabilities are not (purposely) inflated. They are supposed to be completely honest. But because the machine doesn't know what the rest of the league looks like, it assumes the rest of the players are fairly evenly distributed throughout the rest of the teams in the league. This assumption can be off sometimes, especially in dynasty leagues where some teams are possibly punting this year and building for the future. For example, suppose you built a league, say 12 teams where 6 make the playoffs, with 3 absolutely stacked teams and nine weak teams. In real life, the best of the nine bad teams would have a pretty good shot at the playoffs . But the machine sees that team it in a vacuum (not in context), so all it sees is a below average team and it will therefore give it a low playoff probability.Someday maybe* we might cook up an add-on to this that allows you to tie teams together into a league and then rate them against each other.* - definitely not a guaranteeEDIT: I have found that, in reasonably competitive redraft leagues, the percentages do tend to add up to something close to what they ought to. I was quite relieved to find that out because I knew you guys would be doing this :loco: Perhaps a link to "a word about these probabilities" would be nice.

Love what David and Doug have done here, it's overwhelmingly cool. When we have our annual strategy session and they first mentioned doing this, I said to Doug, "how on Earth are you going to make this work using natural language?" He took that as a challenge and, somehow, made it happen. Automating something like this, but making it cohesive without any broken English, is a Herculean accomplishment to say the least.

I'm proud to be an FBG every day, but on days like this especially.

:loco:

P.S. You can toggle between projections and that too will alter your outcomes. For example, I plugged in a mock team and ran it with David's baseline and it gave me a 60% chance of the playoffs, whereas when I toggled to my projections, it gave me a 92% chance. You would expect that to happen b/c my team would be full of guys I feel are statistically likely to outperform their ADP; but it was a cool test to see the variance. It's noteworthy for those folks who may look at the four sets of projections and fear we're too similarly positioned; we're really not.

I plugged in Tefertiller's team from the FBG magazine mock draft. In the "other staffers have different takes" sections, there were like 8 Tefertiller comments

True enough, but the comments were based on staff rankings...weren't they? It's a good point though, illustrating why it might not be as easy to transition as I originally premised.

We do flip back and forth a little, and I see why it's confusing. When you go to a team page (Dodds by default) and it says "we have Johnson ranked #2", that means Dodds projections have Johnson ranked #2. "We" just sounds better than "I" IMO. Switch to Tremblay and then "we" is MT. But then it tangentially mentions some other staffers' rankings sometimes, and those do refer to the rankings, not projections.

Any way to save players or link with MyFBG's? Ging back all the players are cleared out.
Import/export to/from MyFBG (and maybe even MFL) is something that will probably* happen later in the summer. After you've entered a team, you'll see an "edit this team" link near the top. Hit that and your players will be there for editing.* - not a guarantee
I know a lot of people use MFL here, but in the "rankings" the two top sites were MFL and RTSports; having import/export from RT would be great!

I have not filled this in yet, but if you create a team for all 12 in your league would you get the % of playoff probability? I understand without that info you have to assume an equal distribution of the rest of the players, but if they are all in why continue that methodology?

Not sure I understand the question. At this point, the app evaluates every team in a vacuum. Even if you enter all twelve teams in your league, it does not (at this point) know that they are tied together in one league.

Great job !!! This is another application worth the price of the site subscription...

I'm sure the beta-testers have offered up improvements plus we have seen some here. It will be nice to see how this looks moving forward when adding free agents, IDP, dynasty etc...

This first version is fantastic - THANKS TO FBG Crew and Beta-Testers !!

Kev

Great work fellas.

In this time of the year when we in our lull for fantasy this is a great feature i really appreciate.

I put in one of my teams and got back its a virtual LOCK to make the playoffs.

I put in one of my young teams and it said with good management i would have a 50% chance to make it. Which is what i was thinking myself.

I love this tool!!!!!

props to you guys at FBG!!

Great work; super!

I would like to put in a plug for different colors than red and green, especially the shades you used, for highlighting. There are a lot of color-blind impaired readers out in fantasy football land.

for those folks who use MyFantasyLeague.com, you could use the MFL Developer's Program to get the vast majority of data needed for this app, greatly reducing the amount of data entry needed for FBG's customers... :goodposting:

Great stuff. Would greatly prefer IDP of course, but it'll do for now.

QB: .

RB: we don't necessarily recommend any roster moves here.

WR: we don't necessarily recommend any roster moves here.

TE: we don't necessarily recommend any roster moves here.

PK: we don't necessarily recommend any roster moves here.

ETA: I tested it with one of my best teams, it'll probably be more beneficial with me lessers.

Amazing. Very impressed.

The only suggestion, is to make a way to go back after it is submitted, and make adjustments to your roster without having to input everything all over again. As someone else mentioned, this will often be used to see what trades/free agents will help the team more. So being able to make minor changes without having to input everything again would be great.

I didn't get this on a single team I tested. Wanna share your lineup?edit: I see you did get some suggestions for QBs. Still - can we see your team?

Awesome. Wish I noticed that before I went back and entered everything 3 times.

This is a bit of a bug. The fact that it didn't say that it doesn't recommend roster moves means that it agrees that you could use some depth. But the fact that it's blank means that (because this is a super-duper deep league) it can't find anyone who both (a) likely to be available and (b) has nonzero projections for 2009.

Doug, I haven't entered a team as of you, but am wondering if this will work for Best Ball leagues? Best QB, RB, 2WR, etc from your roster?

It's amusing when I use this application and my projections tell me that my team is a LOCK to make the playoffs.

On the other hand, I need to have a conversation with my GB Jason Wood. :goodposting:

Great job Doug and David. This turned out better than I envisioned, especially for V1.

Well, it wasn't designed with that in mind. So it will be able to assess general strength, but will be ignorant to the nuances of best-ball vs. "regular" FF.

I wasn't even going to bother with this as I thought it was rather silly.

Well, I am blown away by this being the first release, I expected far less.

Very impressed.

Complaining about this would be like being married to Halle Berry and complaining she can't cook.

Couldn't help but enter this team...LOL at the automatic evaluation comments :tinfoilhat:

QB: Brett Favre, Erik Ainge

RB: B.J. Askew, Adrian Peterson, Jerome Felton, Charles Ali, Anthony Alridge

WR: David Anderson, Sam Aiken, Ramses Barden, Dominique Zeigler

TE: Richard Angulo

PK: Sebastian Janikowski

TD: Detroit Lions

Overview:

Wait. Are you serious?

You did your research. You put your years of experience to work. And this --- THIS --- is the team you ended up with? How is that even possible? Did you think this was a points-per-suck league?

To call this the

Worst.

Team.

Ever.

would forever cheapen those three words.

And what in the world is "FakeTerribleTeam" supposed to be anyway?

You know, normally I like this job. I get to sit here and assess people's fantasy teams. It's fun. I try to help them out. I learn from them and hopefully they learn a little from me. But then someone like you comes along and ruins it. WHY ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME WITH THIS TEAM??! I could be using these electrons and milliseconds to rate the team of someone who cares. Someone with a chance. But that ain't you, buddy, that's for sure.

QB Summary:

We have Brett Favre rated #33 among quarterbacks, so we're not even sold on him as a fantasy starter in your league. We strongly recommend that you add a backup QB (we'll make some specific suggestions at the end of the report).

RB Summary:

We have B.J. Askew ranked #89 at the position, so we don't even necessarily see him as being RB1 worthy in this league. And we also have some doubts about whether your depth at running back is going to make up for it, so we feel this is an area of concern.

Adrian Peterson is a very weak second running back; he's a likely flex starter. Jerome Felton is also a liability at third running back --- also probably a frequent flex contributor.

WR Summary:

We have David Anderson ranked #115 at the position, so we don't even necessarily see him as being WR1 worthy in this league.

We might suggest adding a bit more depth here. See the end of the report for some suggestions on who to pick up.

TE Summary:

With only Richard Angulo, who we don't think is starter-quality in this league, this position is likely to be a trouble spot for you all season.

We might suggest adding a bit more depth here. See the end of the report for some suggestions on who to pick up.

Kicker Summary:

We don't think Sebastian Janikowski is starter quality in this league. Keep a sharp eye on the waiver wire.

Defense Summary:

When you don't have an elite defense, one option is a committee approach. That is, try to get two cheap defenses whose schedules fit well together. Here are a few teams who we think may be available and whose schedules fit best with the Lions', along with the combined schedule that each would create:

Lions + Cardinals = SF | MIN | WAS | CHI | PIT | SEA | NYG | STL | SEA | SEA | STL | TEN | MIN | BAL | DET | STL

Lions + Colts = NO | MIA | ARI | SEA | TEN | GB | STL | STL | SEA | MIN | BAL | HOU | TEN | BAL | ARI | NYJ

Lions + Packers = CHI | MIN | STL | CHI | PIT | DET | CLE | STL | SEA | MIN | SF | DET | BAL | BAL | ARI | SEA

Can't complain, but I'm hoping the dynasty version is in the works. Very nice app for redraft leagues, tho. It's going to be fun to input my redrafters & see where I stand (even tho it's based off of other people's projections).

Great job, guys.

That answers part of the question...why not allow the other 11 teams to be loaded so that you are not evaluating in a vacuum? It seems you did most of the hard work already?

I love this thing  ;)

My dream options would allow you to compare and rate your team vs the rest of your league. Since so many FBG's seem to be MFL guys also, linking the two would be awesome.

Dynasty would be another great feature but IMO it would be hard to evaluate as some are in win now mode and some are building for the long haul.

I did not have to do a fake team to get this. We had one team in my league that got this response. It was funny. This was my other favorite line Let us say this as nicely as we can. This team is brutal. It is below average and/or too thin at all three core positions (quarterback, running back and receiver).

Is this free to the public for a while? I am a subscriber, but I want to send it to the rest of my league so they can enter their teams too. I basically am hoping to see the responses to each roster without having to do all the work.

Laaazzzeeeeeee.

We are keeping this free through the whole preseason this year. We likely will have an in-season version that will be for subscribers.

This app alone might add 20-30% more new members this year.
That's our plan. Our logic being this:If these guys can develop a computer program that can instantly analyze a lot of aspects of their team, how much could they help me through the course of a whole season? This was our motivation. We just hard-coded a lot of things we already write about
