Ray Rice APPEALS suspension (1 Viewer)

I believe the league leaked out the video after the public outcry in order to make up for their mistake with the 2 game suspension. They were thinking they could cover this up by claiming ignorance on never seeing the video prior to the initial suspension. Isn't it funny how quickly both the Ravens and the league reacted after the video was released. I think it was within hours of the video being leaked out. It appears to me they planned all of this out ahead of time. Goodell and Ravens brass both deserve to be fired over Ricegate. This is a complete coverup that went wrong.
Pure speculation with no substance. The facts will come out soon and you TMZ/ESPN tabloid junkies will look like fools. The amount of pure garbage produced from that place is getting to be overwhelming due to a lack of competition. I wish the NFL would be willing to take a hit and pull the plug on MNF at ESPN and give it to another channel.

Yeah, the facts WILL come out soon. The media is out with pitchforks. It's only been a week and a ton has already been dug up. Much more is coming and my guess is that there will be a pile on where even more dirt on Goodell is found out.

So enjoy all the personal attacks and name calling you're doing now. Soon it will be obvious just how wrong you are and you'll never be seen here again.

Wow. Rodger is stone cold lying IMO.
The OTL piece pretty much confirms it.
How is this Rogers fault? The Ravens were the dirty birds here. If you actually took the time to listen to the info with out the hatred you will see the Ravens are the ones who kept things from Roger and was making things happen legally so his hands are tied to a two game suspension.

Why does the media care? Ask yourself that? Do they care about domestic violence or the story? They didnt seem to care much until the video came out that Rice and Hardy were beating women even though the info was out there and Hardy was convicted by a judge.

So why does the media have pitch forks again? Why are they so offended? Are you offended that some guy shot his daughter and 5 grand children in Florida? Thats domestic violence and no one seems to care about it. If only Roger Goodell could have stipped all domestic violence in the world since it is his responsibility.

Not sure where you're going with this.

No, it's not Goodell's job to stop all domestic violence. It IS his job to treat all players and teams fairly and evenly. It's always seemed like he played favorites, and now there is evidence that he does exactly that. A commissioner can not play favorites. He can not give preference to one team over another. It corrupts the whole system. That's the scandal on Goodell's end. He has rigged the system in favor of his friends. He has corrupted the game. And hr fact that he was so, either brazen or incompetent, to do so when such a serious issue as domestic violence was involved shows just how far he's willing to go to play favorites.

Wow. Rodger is stone cold lying IMO.

They can both be at fault. Goodell's hands were in no way "tied."

Were you as outraged when Greg Hardy initially got arrested? What about Hope Solo did you care or start a thread when that mess happened, she is married to a football player (former?), do you carry the same outrage of the serious issue of domestic violence? This is all Roger Goodells fault, his hands were tied on two games and one of his bosses breathing down his neck.

Question, your boss who pays your salary asks you to do something (not illegal), you going to do it or say, no boss its not right? Never mind, don't answer that, everyone in the world knows the answer.

Isnt their a CBA that dictates punishments and did Goodell have the video at the time before the public were so outraged at seeing something that happens everyday in American homes but all of a sudden care now?

Face it, you never cared or pretended to care about domestic violence in this country until it became a topic in the NFL and on this trusty little message board.

There is no incentive to keep Rice in the league. Guy isn't a top 50 NFL name, people only know him for fantasy football. He went to a crap football program, never won anything in college. He has never led the league in rushing. In fact, he's only finished top 5 in rushing once his entire career. He's undersized and slow. He's never been very marketable. Doesn't play for a prestigious franchise with a huge fan base. Again, not seeing any incentive to cover up anything for this guy.
He was VERY marketable in Baltimore. It's the main gist of the ESPN article.

Except that he was the face of the franchise. Raised a ton of money for local charities, was good friends with Baltimore's mayor, was the official spokesperson for the team's biggest sponsor, etc. Oh, and Bisciotti and Goodell are very good friends. Like good enough friends that they happened to be playing golf at Augusta at the same time all this was going on despite their obvious lies that they didn't golf together.
Local Charities aren't even a drop in the bucket compared to national marketing like a Peyton Manning or a Brett Favre. If half the starting running backs in this league never played again, the NFL wouldn't blink twice. They don't contribute to the pie. Asinine to think otherwise.
Sure, that logic applies to Goodell, but all that stuff mattered a lot to the Ravens. M&T bank is paying the Ravens $66M over 10 years for stadium naming rights. Ray Rice was the face of the team and that partnership specifically. So a Rice meant a lot to the Ravens and Bisciotti.

So Bisciotti called in a favor to his really good friend Goodell and Goodell did him a favor instead of doing his due diligence.

I very much believe that it was outright malice and deception by the Ravens, who knew beyond a shadow of a doubt what really happened, and that it was favoritism and incompetence by Goodell.

Goodell has always played favorites. The Ravens, Steelers, Giants, Patriots and Broncos have received favorable treatment again and again under Goodell. He was always able to get away with it by citing confidentiality and using the clauses in the CBA that give him broad discretion. But he got nailed this time. He helped his friend out and gave Rice leniency on the request of his buddy Bisciotti.

If Ralph Wilson or Russ Brandon from the Bills had made that request, Goodell would have politely rebuffed them, obtained the tape, secretly leaked it to the media and crushed Rice the first time around. That's why Goodell should be gone. He played politics on an issue that was beyond stupid to play politics with and he got found out. Nobody with a brain believes for one second that he cares about the issue now, he only cares that he got caught and is trying to save his job and the reputation of the league that he has tramped into the mud.
66Mil over ten years isn't an absurd amount of money. AT&T is paying three times that amount for the Boys. And if you think an average RB is the reason that deal happened, you should get checked into an insane asylum. Again, Ray Rice isn't a brand name. Ray Rice doesn't make partnership agreements for his franchise. That's hilarious.
You're 100% wrong on this. Rice absolutely WAS the face of the franchise and was involved in pretty much every piece of local marketing and community outreach. It made the Ravens look horrible and all their partners that Rice did marketing for look bad as well.
You must have a double digit IQ. Again, local marketing and community outreach aren't #### to the NFL pocketbooks. Having Ray Rice take a couple pictures with a hospitalized kid isn't going to make the team a billion dollars. Guess what, Rice is gone, and now there will be a new face for the Ravens. It's that easy. 99.9% of these players are interchangeable. Only a couple per generation can truly have an affect on the overall marketing of the sport. Ray Rice is in a galaxy far, far, far away from ever being that. And they definitely aren't doing any groundwork to set up any kind of team partnership deals.
You should read the article. And stop being an #####.

How does he always play favorites? He went down pretty hard on Vick when he was the face of the franchise, NFL didn't miss a beat. Now Matt Ryan is the face of the Falcons. And Vick has come out publicly to defend Roger, saying that Goodell is doing a GREAT JOB. If anyone should have discontent for Goodell it should be Vick. Goodell took millions and millions away from him yet he was still able to rebound from it.

Anybody who thinks Ray Rice is actually the one making marketing deals for millions and millions of dollars for a franchise shouldn't be allowed to vote. Ray Rice's job is to play football. There are much smarter, more competent people whose sole job is to market their franchise and make them money. And they are very good at it. Ray Rice shows up, takes a few pictures, signs a couple things, and leaves. Everything else is just PR to build him up and make him look like a good guy, which we have found out he is not. You guys act like Ray Rice was spending his free time with his nose in the yellow pages hunting down companies to advertise for the Ravens. Hilarious!

They can both be at fault. Goodell's hands were in no way "tied."
I'm also curious as to how his hands were tied. Seems like John Harbaugh knew what to do. Within hours of the incident the Ravens knew what went down and that there was video from inside the elevator. Anyone that believes it didn't get back to the league office is rather naive. Sure, you can play games and say you never saw the video. But there were a lot of people in high places that knew it was there. They believed that they had nothing to worry about. After all, this is the NFL. They're bulletproof.

I believe the league leaked out the video after the public outcry in order to make up for their mistake with the 2 game suspension. You might want to save the "did you care" card for when you have a clue next time instead of playing it against someone who volunteers at a women's shelter and participates in a program mentoring kids that were victims of abuse.

By your mocking of me pointing out that domestic violence is a serious issue, you come across like you think domestic violence is a joke. I assure you that it isn't.

You seem to have a comprehension problem in general. You constantly avoid the actual discussion to personally attack other posters or to throw up more strawman arguments. Your behavior in this discussion has been deplorable.

Much more is coming and my guess is that there will be a pile on where even more dirt on Goodell is found out.So enjoy all the personal attacks and name calling you're doing now. Soon it will be obvious just how wrong you are and you'll never be seen here again.

What he is trying to say is that domestic violence has been a non issue until this season, although every season ever in every professional sport there have been domestic violence issues that come up every season. The outrage and attention has been non-existent until now. Why is that? Has the media failed us for the last 50+ years?

1) Yes2) The level of evidence makes it much easier to drop the hammer

3) The favoritism displayed by Goodell is, in itself, a major problem

ETA: And no, he specifically asked if I cared about domestic violence issues.

I thought I made that pretty obvious, but to those with the certain color sunglasses want to believe what they want.

Also, I'm not even go into the countless charities and endeavors I am a part of, since I do not care about the recognition unlike others.

To Grove Diesel, since you care so much about domestic violence, where was your outrage about Hardy or many other cases even the Solo case against another NFL player before the Rice video?

Hilarious!
I don't see anyone saying that Ray Rice was the one making marketing deals for millions and millions of dollars. The article speaks to a great extent about Rice's role as a face of the franchise figure in Baltimore who does events, signings, charities, etc. It's not about millions of dollars, it's about PR and fostering a strong relationship with the owner of the franchise and the community. This is given as a reason that the Ravens used their influence to help Rice get out of this situation as cleanly as possible. You are free to reject it based on your massive, triple digit IQ, but you don't have to exhale dooshiness because some people choose to believe what is an obviously well-researched, incredibly in depth article over some mouth-breather on the internet calling everyone else morons.

The NFL cares about it's bottom line. Ray Rice does not increase the value of the NFL. For the like 100th time, he is an undersized, overrated RB that has little to none national marketing value. There isn't an incentive for the NFL to push his situation under the rug, because he does not contribute on a national scale to transcend the NFL into a better product. There are only a couple players every generation (Manning, Favre) that I would even consider important to the league. The NFL is bigger than any one player, and it's laughable to think Ray Rice is rolling in the dough for the Ravens and the NFL.

For the 1000th time, the RAVENS care about Rice. Goodell didn't go easy on him because it helped the NFL, he did it because Bisciotti is his friend and it was to help the Ravens specifically out. I'm not sure if you're purposefully avoiding this distinction, or if you really don't understand the financial structure of the NFL and its teams.

In fact, I would argue that his decision was I'm direct conflict with the interests of the NFL as a whole for the benefit of Goodell's friend.

Listen, my point is not speaking to you specifically. It is speaking to similar people like you. I for one watch my mother and sister get beat by a disgusting man, so I have seen the troubles and donate time to help any physically abusive cause not just domestic violence (Bullying and so on). I am greatful there are people out there like you who help, so thank you if no one else says it to you.

BUT----

There are those many people showing outrage who did not care about domestic violence before the video and as you know it has been happening since the beginning of time but according to the media it must of just started and the NFL is the ones who started it. Since you are involved, I guess you can reasonable say domestic abuse happens everywhere in every sport and in every occupation. not just the NFL, so why does the media care now and not before and why does the NFL become the poster child when people are doing this every day that destroys the ration of it in the NFL.

The media is doing what they always do and is spinning things anyway possible to get the bigger story, which is a commish having to resign because of conspiracies.

Keep in mind in any political issue, money is involved, I wouldnt be surprised if NBA owners are backing the push and remember a while ago i said the Ravens were behind this cover up not the Commish, and that will come out soon enough.

So Bisciotti makes a statement that manages to not directly address a single accusation against him and the Ravens. This guy and that front office are going down.

Looks like they also released a written statement that did address the claims by ESPN. Seems like mostly weasley lawyer speak to me though.

Interesting to note that Bisciotti kept touching his nose over and over. That's a common sign that somebody is lying.

ETA: I do think ESPN is either going to have to come up some more concrete evidence or start naming some of these sources for the Ravens to see any punishment.

They can both be at fault. Goodell's hands were in no way "tied."

1) No, there wasn't. There is a domestic abuse policy now that Goodell created after he suspended Rice two games (and that he is now ignoring to suspend Rice indefinitely).

2) I have no idea what who did/didn't/doesn't care about domestic abuse has to do with anything. Goodell only "cared" enough to give Rice 2 games until he had an epiphany (after the surge in public outrage) that made him realize he actually cared an indefinite-suspension amount.

Again, you are arguing against things that nobody is saying. Please find me where anyone here said that Ray Rice is "rolling in the dough" for the NFL. Or at least, direct your comments to those fake people, if they exist.

Literally nobody is arguing that Goodell or Bisciotti "pushed this under the rug" to protect the NFL's revenues. Bisciotti stood by Rice because they had a close relationship for a number of reasons already explained in this thread. Goodell went easy on Rice because he was a first time offender, obviously regretful, and was asked by the victim to show mercy. Neither of them thought this situation would affect the NFL's "bottom line," largely no doubt because of what you keep saying for 100 times - Rice is not significant. They both under-estimated, drastically, how much the public would care about this, which is why they did a complete 180 once it became apparent that this could affect the bottom line.

They both displayed poor judgement and severe tone deafness, and neither of them are improving the situation as they awkwardly back-peddle from their previous positions.
