RB Antonio Gibson, NE (2 Viewers)

Suffered some sort of toe injury, Cowboys run D doesn't look like a great match up.  What are we thinking this week?

I need to decide whether or not to play D.Foreman tonight.

In Foreman thread (and confirmed after seeing it from other sources), 3/5th of Titans' starting OL is out tonight. I am somewhat in your boat, as I have Gibson too, and the above is making me pass FWIW.

I have the roster of good/very good (Javonte, Wilson, Dillon, Edmonds, and Sanders) to choose from, but injuries wreaking havoc on trying to make an intelligent decision, as most outside of Gibson/Javonte and in the same jumble rankings wise. Just have to hope for solid news on all fronts to make a decision.

Sitting Wilson, as TEN run D is decent, and SF trudging across country on a short week makes me a little nervous as well.

Thanks for that.  I was leaning towards sticking with Gibson so this helps solidify that.

Thurs night games suck for this scenario…mediocre start on Thurs vs a questionable player on Sunday…do you roll with the low risk play vs high upside/sits due to injury.

Dude I feel your pain: Gibson, Jacobs, Edmonds, Michel, Penny, JJackson. It's like you can never just set your lineup without considering outside factors (like last week, when I sat Gibson because of his 4th string QB).

2021, y'all!

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "there is some optimism" that Antonio Gibson (toe) will play in Week 16 against the Cowboys.

Gibson is considered a game-time decision after suffering a turf toe issue in Week 15. He missed the bulk of that game because of the injury but was able to return for a handful of drives. With J.D. McKissic on injured reserve, Washington's backfield would be barren without Gibson. Jaret Patterson would get the first crack at work between the tackles with veteran Jonathan Williams taking the field for passing downs.

I really have no idea what to expect from him but I don't trust Patterson either so if he plays I would probably go with him. It is PPR so you might get a few points that way as well. Not an ideal situation - good luck!
I really really really want to put in Patterson but going to stay with Gibson for better or worse

Washington placed Antonio Gibson on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Gibson is exceedingly unlikely to suit up this weekend against the Eagles. That leave Jaret Patterson as the Football Team's top running back who has a chance to serve as an every-down option with J.D. McKissic (concussion) on injured reserve. Patterson rushed nine times for 33 yards in the team's blowout Week 16 loss to Dallas. He could see a serious workload in an offense with the league's ninth lowest pass rate (56 percent). Wildly negative game script against a superior Eagles team could always limit Patterson's carries. He'll be a shaky RB2 option.

Washington did not activate Antonio Gibson from the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of the team's Week 17 game against the Eagles.

With J.D. McKissic on IR because of a concussion, Jarett Patterson is in line for a massive workload this week. His only completion for reps is Jonathan Williams, who has 10 touches on the year. Patterson plays for a struggling offense but the increased volume sets him up for RB2 fantasy numbers.

The Athletic's Ben Standig reports the Commanders "hoped to involve Antonio Gibson more in the passing game next season" even before letting J.D. McKissic walk in free agency.

Standig adds that the Commanders hope to add a back "capable of handling early-down duties with Gibson." This actually checks out on both fronts, as Gibson is a natural pass catcher who probably handled too many between-the-tackles touches in 2021, limiting his explosiveness and wearing him down with injury issues. Gibson should be catching more passes and getting more breathers on first and second down. Standig believes any complement would come from the "lower tier" of free agency. There's a ways to go, but Gibson is keeping himself RB1 adjacent for best ball season.

Starting to feel like RoJo might be in the mix for WAS.  If they’re really looking for a 2-down between the tackles guy to keep Gibson fresh, that’s probably a nice fit.

To add to the article ... I think WAS is eyeing some positions that don't come up as a need on most experts list.  S and ILB are obvious needs.   TE and RB are less mentioned.  IMO Gibson is not a between the tackles RB.  He doesn't have the patience or stop/start skills an  every day NFL RB needs.  He's a heck of a weapon that could be used more creatively and in the pass game more.  I don't think his production will go down.  But he will probably do it on less touches.

So I think Gibson's fantasy value will be largely determined by the RB they pick up in FA or the draft.  I could see them getting the best RB available with their 2nd or 4th round pick.

From an offensive strategy I find this all interesting.  McKissic is a scat back.  Gibson while tough is more suited to open field running where he doesn't need to pick and hit the holes.  So who is effectively going between the tackles?  Not Patterson.  Tough but too small IMO.   I still think they are missing a real RB, like a Chubb, Michel, etc.  I'd really love to see a guy like Breece Hall, Ken Walker, or Spiller on this team.  It's like Rivera/Turner don't think it matters.  But it would really help their QB and OL.  Not that they care about anyone's opinion 😂

One day after choosing the Bills, RB J.D. McKissic is now reversing course and staying with Washington, source confirms (@AdamSchefter 1st)

As president of the Antonio Gibson fan club, let me say:

Not cool, JD. Not cool at all

Congrats to anyone who managed to ship him out for a haul in that tease of a window.   I feel like Elaine Benes after she enlists the services of Newman and Kramer to kidnap her neighbor's yip dog and drop him off on a nice family farm in upstate NY.  Not even a day later and McKissic is back in the Commanders backfield barking up a storm.

At first glance, I really don't get the fit keeping these two guys in the same backfield.   Sadly, injuries have hampered both of Gibson's two seasons and that probably factored in to their decision to match.   Should we still be expecting a half-way decent thumper to land in Washington to boot?    If Buffalo was kicking the tires on CMC before McKissic, maybe Washington should check in to see what kind of offers might be out there   Gibson, if anything, was supposed to be a receiving RB first and foremost, right?   Pairing him with the grand poobah of receiving RBs during his prime years is beyond frustrating.

Washington RB Antonio Gibson said he expects to remain in a committee with J.D. McKissic this season.

There was hope of an every-down role for Gibson when McKissic was a free agent earlier this offseason. That's changed with McKissic backing out of his Buffalo deal to re-sign in Washington, leaving Gibson destined for another timeshare. Gibson expects the team to continue to rely on McKissic on third downs and in passing situations, a rotation that left him with a 57% snap share last year. Gibson's usage doesn't stand to improve much in 2022, but the supporting cast and quarterback play should be slightly better with Carson Wentz replacing Taylor Heinicke.

It wasn't much of a committee. Gibson got all the goal line rushes and got 258 attempts vs 48 for McKissic. The big shocker is Gibson only had 1 less reception than McKissic.

ANTONIO GIBSON RB, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera likened Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson to the Panthers former backfield of D'Angelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.

Rivera, of course, likens everything in Washington to his Carolina days. But if the Commanders see Gibson as nothing more than one part of a "1-2 punch" alongside rookie Robinson, Gibson probably should've be among the first 15 running backs off the fantasy draft board this summer. J.D. McKissic, who re-signed with the Commanders this offseason, is expected to maintain pass-catching duties, while Robinson possibly eats into Gibson's early-down role in Washington's offense. The Commanders in 2021 had the league's ninth lowest pass rate over expected, so a run-first approach could be valuable for fantasy purposes if Gibson or Robinson emerge as the team's go-to options in 2022.

Gibson-Robinson 1-2 punch, ok, so what  J.D. McKissic will do? So many holes in Washington and they drafted an RB in round 3, I don't understand that pick.

Gibson isn't exactly a protoytpical first and 2nd down guy.  Picking up a solid early down back on a cheap rookie contract makes sense.

The Washington Post's Sam Fortier reports Antonio Gibson is practicing with the Commanders' punt team and third-string offense.

He also saw some work with the Commanders' first-team offense Tuesday. Gibson's August has been as disastrous as anyone could have predicted. He fumbled in Washington's preseason opener and played significant snaps with the backups while rookie Brian Robinson excelled and scored a short touchdown. Commanders head coach Ron Rivera was critical of Gibson after his poor preseason showing, and it seems the team is now punishing him with punt team work and practice with players who likely won't make the final roster. "The coaches say Gibson gets himself in trouble when he becomes indecisive about when or where to cut -- and that leads to the ball swinging away from his body, which leads to fumbles. So the running style is more the issue," ESPN's John Keim said, adding the team likes Gibson "a lot." It's become nearly impossible to draft Gibson in the middle rounds with any confidence he can overcome Robinson and pass-catching specialist J.D. McKissic. Robinson should be drafted ahead of Gibson.
