RB Cam Akers, NO (1 Viewer)

Akers is 1 younger than Chandler, 25 vs 26. FWIW, his PFF grade is higher, this year, 72 versus 57.9. Small sample, but isn't there a chance Akers becomes fantasy relevant if Jones misses time with what is now called a hamstring.

Was he fantasy relevant with Houston with Mixon out?

Akers had a TD, 47 total yards and 2 catches in the last game he started, less than 2 weeks ago. The BUF game.

One 14 pt week out of several doesn’t equal fantasy relevant.

In bigger leagues, RBs are scarce. He probably won't amount to anything unless Jones misses time. The coach loves him, and Chandler hasn't been good he has speed but doesn't break tackles.

Like a bad Penny this guy keeps returning to my purview.

I think there is a good chance Aaron Jones plays vs the Lions but his snaps may be limited.

Chandler isn't a guy the Vikings seem to trust enough in pass protection or getting hard yards inside. Things they may think Alers is better at than Chandler and if Jones is on the sideline or not playing I think it's a mix of Chandler and Akers.

I think Akers is more of a backup to Chandler than anything else just in case Chandler goes down with injury. I think people are reading more into the Akers signing than is there.

I agree 🎯

Backup or starter is in the eye of the beholder.

There are things Chandler has not been good at in recent games and in the past as well that causes them to go away from him.

Completely irrelevant tangent but I have never understood that saying. Aren't all pennies equally bad?

Not to Dodds.

I'm not sure the origin of that phrase. I said it because I'm not a fan of Akers.

😆

I looked it up and a bad Penny was a coin that had a good chunk of its metal cut off or not there for whatever reason.

Then people keep passing off these 60% weight coins in deals and some might get those coins back in a later transaction.

Fits Akers better than I thought.

It’s very old phrase. Originally a reference to an early form of counterfeiting when coins were actually made out of precious metals. “Clipping” a coin meant you shaved off a small piece of silver or gold for example and then passed it off as an unaltered coin at its full value. Later the saying morphed into more of a bad luck connotation or to describe situations where someone or something unwanted or loathed keeps showing up

KOC and the GM obviously like Akers more than I do and I do think Akers is more reliable than Chandler in pass protection.

They have traded peanuts for Akers two seasons in a row now. They obviously think he fits their offense.

I do think if Aaron Jones only ends up playing 20-30 snaps that Akers might mix in for some plays. Likely not as much as Chandler but there are some plays where they might have Akers in ahead of him.
